where to buy from?
I'm planning on getting into coonhunting soon and was wondering what some of ya'll think. I'm new to all of this and don't really know where to get a hound from. I really don't care what breed I get, so my main question is where to buy from. I'm still in school, so I'm not going to be able to spend a whole lot of money on this hound. So I was wondering whether I should buy from a kennel, or a hunter that has a litter. I haven't been able to locate any kennels in AR, but I have seen ads in the newspaper classifieds. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
find a local hunter with some dogs and go hunting with him a few times.coon hunting aint for everyone ,so before you go putting a lot of money into something like this sport, make sure you know what you are getting into.
i had a neighbor one time who wanted to go hunting real bad one time .so i took him and he like the treeing the coon and all but when he fell down comeing back off the top of the mountain ,that was the last trip for him.
the best thing to do is go to a nite hunt near you and go hunting with some of these guys and dont just buy a dog from the first person you hunt with ,without hunting with different dogs and people.then decide which type of dog you like and go from there.
you can find hunts in ar. by looking in the upcoming events on the main webpage here.most anyone will take you hunting with them.talk to the people at the club and someone can tell you who lives close to you also.

i agree with wildblill find a local hunter or go to a hunt and make for sure this coon huntin is what you really want to do not everybody is cut out for it as far as a hound goes you should find a hound already trained to start with make sure it is not trashy or mean then get you a pup to train trainin pup aint all fun and games got 3 right now thats one to many hope you have a lot of fun coon huntin you should meet some wonderful people on ocassion you will meet a butthead but almost everyone is nice to young people dont buy or get just any hound be sure it is a coon dawg go to the upcomin events page find a hunt near you if you know you like to coon hunt go to classified or look in coon hound bloodlines to find someone near you

You might want to look around for an old dog. Around here, some very good old dogs can be bought cheap if you know where they are. You just need to ask around. Pups have much to learn and new hunters have much to learn. Very often, putting a pup and a new hunter together ends up with a dud pup and an ex-hunter.
Lab Hunter, you told me once before but I forget what town do you live in and how old are you. If it is possible I would be glad to take you hunting and mabe help find a dog for you.

I'm 16 and live outside of Conway. If you think we could go hunting sometime, just email me and we'll figure something out.
I agree with others. Try to find a local person to hunt with. Ask around to people you trust if they know anyone and go with them. find out if there is a local coon hunters club and call them and see if they take youg interested people on hunts. If they want the tradition to continue they should be glad to take you.
Beware that some will try to skin you alive with their junk dogs, so ask around first!
Throwback
Walker Man, me and my dad have been fishing up at the lake a few times but I've never hunted over there. Pretty country.
