Border collies?
Do any of yall have Border collies, I have 3, and really like em.
Best hand I have is a BC.
Do you work yours?
Border Collies are some of the best working dogs around. But those without a job are the worst dogs ever. Personally I can't stand them. If someone has a farm or some other use for them, they'll please the heck out of ya. They love to have a job to do.
My brother-in-law has had 2. I told him if he bought one he might has well buy 6 head of cattle or a dozen chickens just to give it something to do. It's sire & dam are remarkable cattle dogs but they spit out pups every time the dam comes in season. His could have cared less about people. not affectionate at all. My hounds have better personality. Smart as a whip though. He spent 2 hours every evening throwing a frisbee to it to wear it out, which didn't work anyway. Then it took up chasing cars to keep busy. That was the end of that one.
The other one was a rescue type deal. It was to be culled because it wouldn't work cattle and was shy. It would have made a great service dog. It wasn't very Border Collie like for the most part but it was smarter than most people's kids. Her and his little Fiest eventually occupied themselves chasing critters.
Not a dog for people that aren't outside working alot.
When they have a job to do they are fun to watch.
We have horses, we never trained the dogs for one type of work, they just do it. Our male is our first kid, hes earnd the right to live in the house. He is the smartest dog Ive ever had. And brogys right they have to have somting to do, i woulnt dream of haveing one in town! Our male is 9yrs old and still acts like a pup!
I have had a few over the years and think they are a very trainable, intelligent breed.
I used them for squirrel dogs.

Those suckers are smart as a whip, but will drive you crazy if you can't keep them VERY busy. Not sure if you can wear one down.
many yrs. ago, before was married, my wife had a female border collie, she would-could tree coon after coon, the dog not my wife, just go out on her own and do it, used to kill her some on their place, deadly squirrel dog during day time, also would work stock, smart-versatile, have seen several crossed to hounds, usually walkers that made real game dogs...
i used to raise heelers to work my families/my ex-employers cattle. i had a heck of a stud dog "Rebel". That son-of-a-gun was better help than another human at working cows!!! he would even get up on the tractor and ride with me while i was bushoging or cutting hay!! i could work cattle with my male and female without any help from another person. now with that being said my grandpaw used to have 2 collies...and they were the same way he could take them and work his cows with just his two dogs. i have seen them take down a full grown boar pig and hold it while he ringed it's nose!! collies and heelers are awesome to watch them work!! it stinks to see one on a chain all time, they just don't seem to be as happy as the one's i have seen that have a job to get done. I've got a Border Collie Bluetick cross, hes my fav pup i've raised so far. Smart as a whip; he'll herd my horse, I got him retrieving ducks/grouse, he'll tree a squirrel or cage coon. But he needs to be kept busy, hes a pain if you don't keep him busy.

thats cool, our male bc. hunts some, but our other two, lets put it this, way god put them two on earth to do one thing, herd my horses! This is there only goal in life! Somtimes it drives me nuts! But if they ever got out they wont get far! Those two will bring em right back!
I have one
He is a red ad white border. He helps me break young horses. I have never had one buck since I got him. He can tell when they are getting wound up grabs them by the nose and stops them dead in their tracks. I also use him to train young hounds on cage coon. He can tree a coon at 100 barks a minute and really keep the young puppies interested. Had him eight years now he lives in the house and will die on my place! The only way you would even know he is inside is because you trip over him while he is sleeping on the kitchen floor.
