foot in my mouth and I apologize

Awhile go there was a post on here about a mean dogs and I said something like it starts before you go to the woods, well tonight I went out with a buddy for a quick one, My red dog did good right in there treeing with my buddies blue,when we got to the tree and my buddies dog was back wandering, this dog doesn't do that she usually back off the tree but not wandering,well we got to the tree and she came in and there was a little of scuffle but nothing major, well anyways we got the dogs back and tied, I was back off the tree shinning and my buddies pup walked buy my dog and he jumped on her and my buddy put the boots to him, we walked away and dropped again my buddies dog went out and treed and my dog was diking around, went to the tree with us and I tied my dog back, rolled the coon out and made my dog watch (boy he didn't like that) well walked out made another drop and my buddies dogs both hit track, and my dog diking off again right beside us, he herd both my buddies dogs on track and he was off he mite of set a new land speed getting to those other dogs, got to the tree and all three dogs standing on tree god it was pretty, rolled the coon and all three got a taste and the same time and no scuffle at all, bet you can't guess who was first on track and first on tree on the last drop and behavied him self very well when the other dogs got there.THANKS LESS never thought I would thank another for putting the boots to my dog By the way my red just turned 10 months old

Yes, he did you a great favor. Some pups will show agression early on and if it is stopped it will never happen again. Keep a watch on your dog and try to stop ANY show of agression, make sure that he knows that you are the boss and that you will not tolerate any agression from him.

I once caught a pup face barking not long after he started treeing. I knocked him with the training collar (he was tied) and just watched. He started back treeing about 15 minutes later and I never saw any agression at a tree by him in over 4 years of hunting. He would fight and stay if he was jumped on but only then. He drew an ill dog one night and there was a fuss at the first tree before the cast arrived. On a later turn out he was treeing and the other dog would bite him in the back leg. He would hush, turn his head to look at the dog and the dog would back up, then my dog would go back to treeing and get bit again. The cast watched this happen three times and scratched the ill dog.

Jeff your demeanor after that happened says a lot. I did the same thing with a buddy's dog one night, we were walking away from a tree, my dog on a leash, his dog roaming around for whatever reason. His hound jumped on my dog and sunk his fangs into the back of his neck. That dog's owner was standing out in the cornfield calling him.

I corrected his dog immediately, he hasn't hunted with me since.



Be careful on rolling coon out during training season Jeff.

Doing damage or about to do damage does not cover having a dog in the woods, just a landowner killing a nuisance animal. There is a DNR Officer that just moved to Belding, and she roams around our area a lot now, this is how she enforces that particular rule.

I usually keep the handbook in my console just in case I need to produce it. Trust me, ignorance hasn't been one of my tools that I carry when it comes to hunting and the laws pertaining to it. I have been ignorant plenty of times in the past. It is nice to see the extra words added this year.

The with dogs Only part is new, that hasn't been what was written before this year. Good news then. Lets get together some night, I am free most evenings.

Going on nights tomorrow but yeh sure probaly would have be on a weekend ,I'm running with Less again tonight, Been out with Bob a couple of times.
My red dog is durning really good he learned more last night though but running and treeing by himself for awhile hasn't hit Junk one time, he did chase a deer durning the day one time and got educated really quick on that one. did kill a coyote one day just up the road from your house but hasn't touched anything else but coon

Rover you can pick at my red I don't blame you I don't think hes very smart either the god darn fool only thinks about chasing coon , The only fault with this dog is that he don't cast very well, he'll go out and then come back and keeps hunting circles around me but hes getting better. I got buddy I've hunted with a couple of times he doesn't even call his own dog a coon dog(hes a walker) My goal is for him to say to me one night is "Jeff you've got a coon dog there " My other buddy runs blue dogs hes been to the world hunt twice in his life and still does a little bit in local hunts but doesn't even interest him in all the politics these days , He thinks this pup might have chance,

i too have had a naturaly agressive pup. it happens and can be corrected in the right hands.
i also wanted to say, it takes a big man to eat shoe leather and i know first hand putting your foot in your mouth isnt very fun. way to cowboy up.....and good luck with your pup.
