Dalton Breed Blues, and offspring
How many are hunting Dalton Breed Bluetick dogs ??????? Maybe I am missing some of the other nite hunt winners other than the Droop Bloodline, and Mark's line who now has made some showing of wins. I can't think of any kennels started from this line other than Myers, Droop, and Mark's line, and I know there are more than three kennels started from this line of dogs. Also if anyone knows the background of those SmokeyII. dogs ( breeding ) please post back as far as you know. I

I live near Mr. Dalton, and have hunted with him for about fifeteen years. About every blue hound in southwest Va. has Dalton blood in it.
I have two Dual Grands in my kennel that are as close Dalton bred as you can get.
Well, I guess I can list
a few of those I know who hunt or have Dalton Dogs, many have kept, introduced, or started with this line, and I don't know if any are famous, most just like to coon hunt, but
Ernie Golding of Va has a nice Dual Grand out of Smokey II call BlueRidge Bill, even won King of the Show as a year old pup at National Bluetick days......looks and ability
back in the 80's Bill Sosack had Dual Grand Blue Casey coming from Blue Ridge Cate, and Anders Blue Rambler, Cate being from Blue Ridge coon & White Oak Joe, Rambler being from Blue Ridge Mag and Cochran's Blue Hoss
Randy Martin of NC, Tony Fields of NC, Brad Britt of SC, Miles Jernigan of SC, Kyle Redd of SC, Curtis Russell of NC, Scott Wells of NC, Efird Johnson of SC,
Gary Dalton of VA has had a few GR Nite CH, and his blood today is from his females, Smokey II and some Shelton Morris blood.
How about Randy Martin of NC, Bernie Smoke Jr of SC, Darrin Graves, of NC, Mathew Mead of VA, David McCoy of VA, Wendell Rice of NC, Gus Vasil of Okla, Boo Hodges of NC (Boo has a very nice male named Ringer who is a Grandson of Smoke and the foundation for his kennel) William Hale of SC, Doug Chavis of NC, Paul Fundbukle of FL, Jack Michael of GA.
Steve VanSutphin of VA has 2 Grand Nite Champions from his old female Mandy and Smokey II, these 2 dogs BO & Jessie are the foundation for his kennel and offspring.
How about Travis Keffer of VA, Odell Lane of NC, Zane Pebsworth of Okla, John Dahl of NC (this is a very well known dog trainer and handler for the retriver trials) Steve Fox of NC, Larry Smith of KY, Donald Edgerton of VA, Randy Martin, Eddie Sutton, David Gardin, all from NC, Howard Lynch of VA.
Now, you know Jerry & Mike McAvoy with Drrop, and Steve Burkholder with Blue Boy Beth, both GR Nite CH's, Brent Lipscomb of SC, and Earl McKinney of VA with his 2 GR Nite CH's and Randy Wyatt with his GR Nite CH's.
I guess I could go on and on, but the line is well known in the South, known for outstanding coon dogs, and a finer person than Everett Dalton you will not find. In all the years I've known Everett I don't think I have ever heard him say a cross word towards anyone else, or their dogs, kinda like his dogs, PRIDE & CLASS
One thing for sure I'm proud to call Everett Dalton my Friend!

I wish I knew Mr. Dalton, but the post was not intended to make you think that I would be in doubt of Mr. Dalton's character. I just was wondering why these hounds have not been represented now, and in the past in the larger hunts as you, and the Blue River boys have, and are doing now with of course some very impressive wins on behalf of the Blue River Kennel. What is the background breeding of these dogs from start until now........do you know what Mr. Dalton started with.

I have met Mr. Dalton on one occassion at a Nite Hunt at our Club. I couldn't have ask a person to be more nice and have the knowledge of the Sport of Coon hunting. This man knows about the Blue Dogs and is real interesting to talk to. I know you are thinking that I am taking up for kin but far as I know we are not. I do know he knows a lot about Blue Dogs after talking to him. Plan on traveling up to Everett's place and visiting him soon.

John V, I did not take it that way either, just giving you some background on Everett and his dogs. As I'm sure you know most dogs bought never see a nite hunt...very few, I can count on both hands the dogs that have been put in hunts from the litters I've raised. I've hunted with some very nice capable hounds that I knew would do well in hunts (even offered to hunt them) only to be told they (the owners) had no interest in hunting in the hunts.
I wish more folks would have put their dogs from this line in some bigger hunts, but most would rather enjoy a hunt with family or friends rather than go to a nite hunt. Over the years I have always tried to keep track of who got my pups and in just about every litter only 1 or 2 ever saw a nite hunt. Most at the local level and if they ever did see a big hunt it was Bluetick days and than only one time.
From what Everett told me regarding his dogs, they are from the basics as everyone elses, Vaughn, and due to his influence in the area Kelly Bragg's breeding, of course some Jocassa Valley breeding had a shot in there do to Doc Finley living South of there, and a small influence of Smokey River. You will also find a small shot of O.O. Grant in there, as the big all blue hound was liked by some up in the hills of VA, So if I was to say where did the ground level of the hounds Everett has today came from I'd list them as Vaughn, Kelly Bragg, O.O. Grant, and some Smokey River in that order.
TCB, yep from memory, its just I know these folks am friends with many of them, some came back for a second pup and even hunted with some of these fine folks. Over the years of hunting and going to hunts these old dogs have formed many friendships and I have enjoyed it very much. I am not aq big breeder but the friendships built from these dogs will last a lifetime.
Everett was very close to my family, my daughters, son, and wife use to love going to visit Everett up in the Mnts of VA. Everett knew the kind of business I was in during my time in the Army, having served himself, and always gave me and my family refuge for a few days when I needed to just escape for a few days after returning from a mission. Being away from my own family for over 20 years Everett provided guidence, knowledge, and from time to time Father like advise for me !! I guess you can say HE IS FAMILY
I'm sure everyone out there knows someone like Everett, and if you don't I sure hope you get to some day!!!

Very nicely put Mark. I don't have an Everette in my life, but when I was a kid,(growing teenager) i had one and he gave me the love of the hunting sport I have today. Without Marvin taking me with him and those ole mixed breed dogs of his, I would have never been introduced to those late nights out going through the woods and just the old stories he use to tell when we were waiting on the dogs. I miss ole Marvin............TCB
Mark youa re right
It does seem that few of these dogs are hunted in competition. Of the 8 pups Curtis Russell had from his female of this line, one is hunting big cats in Canada, one belongs to a preacher who doesnt competition hunt but would not sell the dog for $2000 when Curtis tried to buy her back, one is AWOL(she went hunting by herself with a beagle and has not been seen since), one has been traded around and I do not thinkj ever competitioin hunted, one belonged to a strictly pleasure hunter who has stopped hunting, and I have the other 3 from the litter. Two of mine are hunted in competition, and one has just started as I just got her. The two are doing well, but having an inexperienced handler does neither on eof them justice in the hunts. So of 8 pups only 2 really stand a chance of being put in the hunts.
Mr Dalton is one of the very nicest men I have met in the coonhound world though. I have also had the pleasure of his hospitality. I also hope to have my 2 from this line showing up in the big hunts in the winers circle. They just need a new handler...lol
oh well.

Hey LE
are those pups your hunting from Curtis's female?? If so they are grand daughters of ole Dual Grand Lynn and one thing she was shore nuff coon dog !!
If you ever get the chance ask Mike McAvoy or David Gardin about her, I remember when Everett told me she was a coon dog but would not win in the hunts or shows !!
She ended up being the First Dual Grand out of ole Smokey II
See you at Oaks !!!!
