What Was/is The Most Over-rated Stud?

THIS TOPIC COMES UP QUITE OFTEN AND IF UKC WILL SEE FIT TO LEAVE THIS POST OPEN I BELIEVE WE CAN DISCUSS IT WITH SOME DEGREE OF RESPECT TPWARD THE OWNERS.

Cope,
I don't think it's fair to say who is the most over rated. It is not a stud dog's fault if enough quality females are being bred to him. A pup is only as good as both sides of his pedigree. If I owned a top notch female I'd feel comfortable breeding her to any stud dog that matches my criteria. I guess you could say I just don't like to rely on statistics.

Wolfe Creek Rollen Rock!

M.C. Blackmon want even show him in the woods. People flock to this dog because Blackmon has the money to advertise. I have hunted with a lot of English dogs from Bama, and Rock is a above average dog with a great mouth from what I hear. Hear is why I say he is overrated. Sure there are some good pups coming from him, but he is breeding a lot females, and no I am not jealous(I hunt walkers), and this is my first post. There are english dogs in the same area as Rock that have not been bred as much and are throwing as good or better pups per litter than the Rock dog by %'s. For instance the High Bawl dog that is owned by Eric Snead, Jim dog owned by Farrell Hammett, and there is another dog in the area that a feller by the name of Webb owns or owned, think his name was Hobo. These dogs mentioned are all producing nice pups from what I hear. I DO NOT NORMALLY GET INTO THESE FORUMS OR POST, THIS WAS MY FIRST AND LAST POST!

Bamaman, i dont agree at all with your comment on the Rock dog. I dont own or even like English dogs but I have hunted with some pretty nice dogs off of Rock. Money doesnt make a dog reproduce. I think its safe to say Rock is a reproducer. Now my pick for the most overrated would be Ole Souths Stylish Rebel. Sure he has thrown some good dogs, but if you look at his percentages they dont look to good. JMO.

Bamaman,
It sure is easy to post when you don't use your real name.
Kindof sounds like sour grapes.

There are good and bad pups out of any and all stud dogs.
People breed to a stud for different reasons. One might be that they like what they see and hear about pups from a certain stud.
I would say that is the reason the Rock dog is bred so much.

I drove over 500 miles to breed to Rock because he was in the Super Stakes program and was the only one listed at the time.

I LIKE WHAT I GOT and WOULD BREED TO HIM AGAIN.

Your post seems a little odd to me, 1st and last post with no name.

Rusty, that was my point. Limo and his owner just kind of fell off the face of the earth about that time. I remember reading some posts about them quite awhile ago but I can't remember exactly how they went. Maybe someone can remember what was said about Limo. Did anyone ever hunt with the dog? I know that was one of the questions asked the last time the subject was brought up. I'll have to ask Monty the next time I talk to him I know he posted on that thread.

All studs unless your talking about the looks of the dogs it's throwing. The race horse people know it the cattle people know it, but the dog people won't admit it. 80% of the performance comes from the dam's side. Even PBR is breeding the cows for the bucking bulls not the best bucking bulls for more bucking bulls.

My opinion would be Mich Swamp Rooster. Remember it is just an opinion.

In my opion it would be the Tru-Blu Grit dawg that COONDOG owns. J/K, alothough I think Rooster is overrated and I'm an english guy. But in all seriousnous it would be anything that comes from or is owned by Mr. Timothy Ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The poor dog could really be the best thing since sliced bread and Reverend Ball would still find a way to over rate it.LOL

i'll second the swamp rooster thing, but 6.59% ant all that bad. so i would be more inclined to say "OVERHYPED". but i do know that that dog was bred to some of the best females in the country. so i guess one could make an argument on both sids of the topic.

eric, 100% on the overhyped

No offense taken at all. I thought that this board was for us to discuss issues in a rationale and civil manner. Some people don't do that and end up getting treated badly.

In any event, what champions did Nailor produce and with what gyps? What I am trying to say is let's look at this and look closely at the gyps before saying he produced because he had two world champions.

If you're saying that Nailor only produced because he was bred to reproducing females, then you have to say that about every stud that ever lived.

I know that your statement sounds very knowlegable, but in reality, if that statement is true then the only reason any stud(not just walker studs) reproduces is because of the female. Which i dont entirely believe,

XJr and Mable. But now that I think about it, I think they were out of Skipper. He was out of Nailor. And they were out of a Sackett Jr. bitch. Good call wkfii. This could be a good post if people keep coming up with good points.
