-- Pope Francis (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928349390)
Pope Francis
What started as a few off the cuff remarks about the tyranny of capitalism has turned into a full fledged attack on the evils of greed:
“The thirst for power and possessions knows no limits. In this system, which tends to devour everything which stands in the way of increased profits, whatever is fragile, like the environment, is defenseless before the interests of a deified market, which become the only rule.”
And from http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/1...talism-tyranny/
The pope is calling for a overhaul of the world’s economic and global finance systems. He acknowledges that the unequal distribution of wealth will lead to violence. He also makes a clear statement about how pure capitalism is causing many of the world’s problems, or making them worse.
“As long as the problems of the poor are not radically resolved by rejecting the absolute autonomy of markets and financial speculation and by attacking the structural causes of inequality, no solution will be found for the world’s problems or, for that matter, to any problems,” he wrote.
Denying this was simple populism, he called for action “beyond a simple welfare mentality” and added: “I beg the Lord to grant us more politicians who are genuinely disturbed by the state of society, the people, the lives of the poor.”
The words of Pope Francis on the current economic system should not be taken for granted. There is a buzz in the air. Americans are realizing that the instability around the world is not too far away. Its genesis has always had an economic component. It is now right at our front door banging. It won’t be long till it kicks the door wide open.

I think the catholic church needs to look inward first before attacking capitalism. They hold tremendous wealth, at one time the single richest entity on the planet, while at the same time 2/3 of gods children suffer in poverty. HYPOCRITES.

I agree with this statement
David Hope justifies a very unequal pie with the following:
Capitalism is like the kingdom of God. Everyone has an opportunity to make it to the top, but there won’t be equal outcomes. When government tries to manufacture equal outcomes, it brings everyone down. As people concentrate on the sizes of the pieces of the pie, the pie just keeps getting smaller. All the pieces get smaller and equal outcomes are still not achieved.
Everyone has an equal opportunity to get a job and better themselves but only few are chosing this option now. We have a choice to follow Jesus or not he doesn't make us.

is there any country, having catholicism as the predominate relegion, prosperous? prosperity is what fuels charity. it's the U.S. and mostly the conservative christains that give the most to the needed. without capatilism there will be hardly anything to give to the poor. look first at italy, except for the vatican, the country is on the verge of bankrupcy, look at mexico and all of central america, do you see one prosperous country? even though they receive an abundance of tourist dollars all of them are dirt poor and have extreamly high crime rates.

Well, Socialist Germany sets new record for massive exports:
http://www.spiegel.de/international...e-a-937961.html
This while providing great healthcare, education, maternity (and Paternity) leave, vacations (hey America, remember when taking a vacation was the norm?), comfortable retirement, solid banking regulations, and more….
If capitalism is so much better than Socialism, why are poverty rates higher in the U.S. than in Germany?

Total German exports in October rose to €99.1 billion ($136 billion), a new all-time high.
and lookie here how much the usa is exporting
WASHINGTON, DC ---- In August 2013 the United States exported $189.2 billion of goods and services, slightly lower than July's exports of $189.3 billion.August's exports are marginally lower than June's all-time record high of $190.5 billion, according to data released today by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) of the U.S. Commerce Department.
http://www.exim.gov/newsandevents/r...ion-dollars.cfm
add another 55 billion and Germany will be on par with the usa. and that Is just for a months time. add 50 billion a month over the course of a year and you get the picture?
lol, didn't you learn not to try to talk finance on here. please post thee article again that states we are doing Qe because if not it would cause other countries to go to war againt us.
and the roman catholic church wants to accuse others of tyranny, why don't you research their history

Capitalism allows people to dream of a better future, and those people are given the freedom to try, and achive those dreams!!! Socialism just leaves them with dreams!!!

I have family in Germany, trust me they dont enjoy the quality of life that we do. I had a cousin visit a couple years ago, he is well educated and upper middle class over there, when he saw my dogs he was amazed and explained that owning a dog in Germany is very expensive and a privelige for the wealthy.
When he left to go home he took a big suitcase full of jeans, said they would almost pay for his trip, very hard to get over there.
TRULY i bet there are enough proud americans on here that would chip in 20 bucks apiece to help you relocate to that socialistic paradice.

I believe too much of anything isn't good, more of a mixture works. I think we have too much capitalism and not enough patriotism, and good point truly. American history tells the story of how we have gotten to this point.

Truly, I'm going to give you an example of socialism, and you tell me where you disagree!!
To make it simple let's say we have a classs of 10 students. Five of those students work hard they study, do their homework, spend extra time studying the night before the big test.
The other five spend their time goofing off, spend no time studying, don't turn any of their work, the night before the test they spend their night partying.
Come test time the 5 working students all get A's, but the 5 partying students all F's. But the teacher comes up with an excuse as to why the 5 partiers failed, so he says to be fair we will just give everyone a C!!
Truly which 5 do you think are going to change? History has example after example that says the workers will stop working!! Why you might ask because they realize that no matter how much they strive to improve all they can hope for is a C!!All the while looking at the partiers who do nothing, but receive the same as them!! That's why their dreams die!!
That is socialism in a nutshell!! The working class is the 5 working students, and the government is the teacher. That is why history proves it to be a failure!!

tyranny of capitlism, what about the tyranny of the holocaust?
i find it funny you pointing out the terrors of capitlism while at the same time promoting the roman catholic church and the country of germany. i imagine the horrors they have inflicted are way worse than any economic system.
and last time i check, USA DEFENDING WORLD WAR CHAMPIONS!
