-- crossbred ? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928500061)

crossbred ?

I have a question. What is the procedure for registering a crossbred back to a standard breed. I know the pups have to be 87 1/2 % one breed but does the breed association have to allow the pups back in? My son just purchased a blue X walker and I was wondering if I bred to the blues I have, if after 2 generations of crossing back to the fullblooded blue dogs if the resulting pups could be registered as blueticks again?

You would have to contact the Bluetick Association. It is up to them.

Just register each litter and when they meet pure bred statis thats what the papers will show

If I'm not mistaken it used to be three generations behind a single registered dog they became PR dogs. In reality it should be the same with x-bred.

It would only take 2 generations to get to the required percentage. 1st generation (if breed to a full blooded blue) would produce pups that were 75% bluetick. A resulting pup from that litter when bred to a full blooded blue would produce pups that were 87 1/2 %. Thus only 2 generations would be required to reach the correct percentage. It would be 3 generations if you include the original sire who is Bluetick X walker.

I think the breed associations individually vote each year to decide if they will allow registration.

Well it will not be anytime soon as the pup is only about 4 months old. He is out of a bluetick male called Prodigy and a grnite walker female called Trudy. The question came up the other evening and I didn't know the answer. It does make for good discussion though.

I'm pretty sure the required percentage is 80% . I also know that the breed association would have to approve it to ever have X-bred blood come into their breed. In most cases I don't think this would be a problem but in some cases , like Plotts for example , they will NEVER allow any new blood in.
