Face barking
I got a buddy that has a young black and tan that is just starting to tree. He is a super stylish treedog but he fac barks. His other dog doesnt care for that crap and they have fought the last couple times I have hunted with him. My dog doesnt care he just moves to the other side of the tree or backs up and avoids the problem. My buddy thinks that he can break this pup from this bad habit but I dont think you can. I think he will only get worse with age. So what do you think can he be fixed or will my buddy have to hunt this pup alone. I cant hunt with this young hound for fear of messing up my dogs

Ive broke dogs from facebarking but I got rite on it the first time it happened I put myself between the dogs on the tree and let them tree until they are out of breath and if the dog facebarks once correct him and just do that over and over Not saying it is a sure fire method but it has worked for me. So it can be done with some effort
Good Luck

Must be to many naturals on here to give advice on this situation. Natural early starters naturally straight and naturally all good natured. Should have asked the black and tan guys.

Love those ---
Naturally good natured hounds. I would first empty his "coin purse". He was a natural at face barking and fighting, 2 things you would NOT want to pass on anyway. If that didn't stop it, a trip to the Vet and a hole dug would be the second choice before he ruins anymore.
Good luck. OT

I can give you an answer...but you wont like it...
I have seen a few dogs that were able to be light broke so they would stop when they see a light coming...but have never seen a dog that was bad about face barking or worse...be broke from it totally.
If the dog is already fighting with other dogs on the tree...the best medicine is a liberal dose of well placed lead.
I would be skeptical of anyone who says they have successfully broke a bad facebarker or fighter. Ive seen a lot of people try over the years...with zero lasting results. Thats probably why nobody wanted to answer your question.
Has nothing to do with natural ability or anything else natural....

X2 on Hoosier Outlaw. A young dog, just starting to tree and he does this already.....wait till he gets a good dose of testosterone flowing through him....you may have him cut and that might help, but the odds are stacked against you and why waist the time.
Time is our most valuable commodity....I was reminded that today when I saw that Gary Plumb has passed on...
All of these types of topics are covered at length in Walk with Wick: The Tree Dog Encyclopedia.
Best of luck with your decision.

find someone who has an old female that will not put up with his bs.
i have seen a few BROKE.
i would rather work on one like that than the one that tucks tail and runs when face barked at.
I had one that as a two year old he could face bark with the best, a buddy bought a male dog he was a stand on the tree looking straight up 120 barks a minute tree dog, my dog would get in his ear bark like an idiot, that dog would act like my dog wasn't alive he gave zero reaction to my dog, in a few nights my dog was completely burnt out on face barking never had another problem
Well to be honest I was pretty sure that the pup couldnt be broke from it. I figured he would only stop when someone is around. I hate it for my buddy he really likes this pup and a bunch of these guys fed him a bunch of crap about it can be broke. I tried to tell him and its only gonna cause me and him both the loss of a huntin partner im afraid he gets mad when I tell him. I figured throwin that natural word out there I would get a bite lol. Thanks for all the replies thats what I was after opinions and mr zepp I like the way you plug the wick books. I read the first one. I need to buy the second one I guess. O never seen what I was lookin for about face barking just tree fighting.

I had a young hound that had it all,I thought. But my two older hounds would leave the tree when he would come into the tree when we would get there he would be the only hound on the tree. So I set him up,had a friend hold him back until I got to the tree. When he came into that tree he cleaned out the tree and when he did I fried him with a E-collar.So we set him up again and the same thing happened so that was his last hunt 22LR.
