Yeah he's a coon dog . A good one too , But I'm desperate for a trail dog . I'd say he would take a track early morning on a bear if I put him on it . He wouldn't if I free castes him .

If I needed a track dog and thought my coondog could do it. I would use him.

The good ones won't give you any trouble. But the not-so-good ones might.
We've found that if they're a good coon dog , they make a pretty good bear dog too.
Some dogs will think they're trash and won't run them , but that don't happen often.

Right makes sense , he's ran bear before but I usually coon hunt in no bear areas so I figure if I coon hunt where's there's no bear will be fine at night ?

I used to know an older man that had a dog he bear and coon hunted. behind the seat of his old rattle trap ford he kept a coon tail in a ziploc bag and a bear foot in another one. when he turned loose and wanted to run coon he got the tail out and let the dog smell it up. likewise for bear. he said that's how them prison break dog handlers do their bloodhounds and said it worked for him.
