-- puppy hiccups? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928309232)

Posted by RED REBELS on 03-19-2013 06:45 PM:

puppy hiccups?

I have a puppy that is 3/4 English Mastiff and 1/4 German Shepard that hiccups more than any other puppy I've ever seen. It happens every time he eats, drinks or gets excited.

Could it be cuz he's eating and drinking to fast?

Any thoughts and solutions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Lizz

I am no expert, but I dont think its anything to be worried about. Puppies get the hiccups alot. They grow out of it.

thanks
I read somewhere that larger breeds tend to eat fast and it gives them hiccups and that putting something in their food will slow them down... I wonder if you can do that with water as well?

has anyone tried this?

Might try raising its bowls....my new German shepherd pup did the same thing...raised his bowls and they have went away...instantly...

Guess i should note...his bowls are about 8-12" off the ground now...not sure if there is a "proper height" but he isnt bent over to eat anymore and the hiccups are gone...if he eats my.parents little dogs food he hiccups...

there isnt a "set height" but "they" actually suggest that you raise all dog's food dishes so that their head is not down to eat, helps with digestion

sometimes soften the food will help as well with the little ones as well as raising the bowl. had to do this with mine. now I just soften, not soaking wet, just damp
