Ear flopping...

I know this has been asked and answered a thousand times, but I have a year and a half old pup that always shakes his head. I've treated him with Doc's ear treatment for half of his life. I've had him to the vet and was given treatment "to eliminate" ear mites. I was to the vet again, and gave him antibiotic drops twice a day for seven days. All said and done, he still does it. He doesn't tree very well, and will stop at the tree and shake his head. What else can I do???

(for those of you thinking not very nice things, this pup gets under a real live coon quickly, just doesn't use the bpm's that I know he has in him)

Hump

One word Bloodworths, best I've ever seen. Usually works better than what the vet sells you. (319) 453-2412 to order. Dave

Hump?

Does this hound have any discharge coming out of his ears, Blood, or Waxy substances?

Thanks for the thread Ken!

Josh, he is a walker pup out of local Amish breeding. Nissely's (sp?) Buck and a female named Jill I think. I don't even have his puppy papers. Just took him on trial when he was four months, and I still have him.

Richard, the inside of his ears are spotless. No discharge ever. Even the vet always remarks on how clean his ears are. After using the otic drops (I'll have to look and see what the medical names are), he had accumulated a bunch of gooey dirt on his ear flap, but inside is nice and clean.

The pup doesn't seem to be in pain, but shakes his head randomly all the time. He also bawls on the tree, when I know he is a chop mouth tree dog.

The vet looked into his ear for ear mites, and one side was clean, and the other had a few in it. I'll also have to look and see what he gave me for that. It was a one time treatment thing.

I had a redbone pup out of Hoosier's Hollywood (I can't remember the sire right off) before this pup, and he did the same thing. I put him in the ground because he wouldn't tree. He "found" several coon for me, but he would shut up and just sit on the ground. I don't think the ear thing was all the cause, but I wonder if my new pup could have gotten something from the same box. My other dogs don't seem to be affected.
