Get a fast dog thats silent on the track they will go up a tree or get caught. We have treed several of them with our dogs over the years.

Yeah I don't think I would want to pack a groundhog for a mile.Looks like a good hunt like always with some nice feist.

How common is it to tree ground hogs? I had no idea that a ground hog could even climb a tree.

Not to common here anymore because the lack of groundhogs. Not sure what happened to them if it's due to lack of farming anymore, disease or yotes. If you have a good population of them and a fast dog that is silent on track that hunts for them they will tree several of them. In years gone by I recall treeing 8 one day. That was the most. A couple times treed 3 or 4 on a hunt.
My dad and grand dad enjoyed eating them but now they are gone and I don't care to eat whistel pig so I hadly ever shoot one out to my dogs unless someone is with me that wants him for dinner. So by not shooting any I don't think my old dogs would tree one. Omega is 14 months old and treeing anything that goes up a tree so I figure after shooting this one out to him he'll try to tree the next one he runs up on.
