going to first hunt

i am going to my first hunt this sat not sure of all the rules yet what should i look out for that i need to be aware of

Let people know it is your first hunt. Most people will be glad to help you learn. Try to read up on the rules and know them the best you can, but as you can read on this board, even the people who have been in it forever don't know all of the rules.

Go to have fun with no expectations of winning. Too many times we put too much pressure on ourselves and our dogs to win, that the fun of trialing isn't fun anymore.

a piece of advice that a good freind of mine gave me before my first hunt. If you leave the hunt with your dog in the back of your truck it was a good hunt. If you leave the hunt happy with how your dog performed (win or lose) it was a great hunt. If you leave with a trophy ---- You got lucky.

I agree with Sketter 100% and would add. Enjoy the other folks and their dogs. I have meet some really great people and ran with some really good dogs. Heard good stories and some **** good lies.

yea i am going with no expectations except to learn and hopefully my dog we also learn some from other dogs and hopefully we both have a lot of fun

Just keep a positive mind and learn from your mistakes and others and go from there everything else above solid advice aswell.

Welcome Alan! What hunt are you attending? Maybe you can have someone one here plan to meet you in the lot so you have someone to help you start in the right direction (measuring in your dog, filling out your entry slip, introduce you to a couple other beaglers).

Is your dog already UKC registered or will you be registering one at the hunt?

i am going to ellenboro wv sat gooing to have to register jumper
for the ukc there friend of mine is a member out there told to be there about half hour before time to fill out all the paper work
