GRNITECH 'PR' Tenn. Fiddler - Stud Dog Thursday

This week’s column is taking us way back, 45 years to be exact. 1977 is the year and a litter of little black pups were born that would shape the Black and Tan breed. Two of the pups in that litter GRCH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Tenn. Big Wheel and the one this article will be about, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Tenn. Fiddler would account for 2,732 pups that were born and 123 titled pups back in a time when not many hunts were taking place and when they were, they were tough to win just based on sheer numbers. Fiddler was an easy choice to highlight here. He has sired the most pups out of the entire Black and Tan breed and is in the top 3 of Black and Tan sires in titled pups.

Fiddler’s first litter hit the ground just shy of his 3rd birthday in February of 1980 and proved his worth right away. The dam of the litter was ‘PR’ Tennessee Belle, and she dropped 11 pups with 3 of them titling out, NITECH ‘PR’ McKibben’s Tom, CH NITECH ‘PR’ Tennessee Toby, and CH NITECH ‘PR’ Kimbrell’s Midnight Queen. Later that year, in December of 1980 another successful litter hit the ground out of NITECH CH ‘PR’ Umpher’s Mighty Minnie. 4 of the 8 pups in that litter titled out including CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Myers’ Mighty Deacon, NITECH ‘PR’ Myers’ Mighty Leroy, NITECH ‘PR’ Myers’ Mighty Mindy, and NITECH ‘PR’ Southeast Buggs.

Fast forward to 1982 and Fiddler was consistently throwing large litters with good results. In April of ’82, a litter hit the ground out of Fiddler and ‘PR’ McKinzie’s Julie that had 5 of the 9 pups title, including NITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Tennessee Boss Hog, CH ‘PR’ Morton’s Fiddin Ranger, GRCH ‘PR’ McKinzie’s Gunner, NITECH CH ‘PR’ Tennessee Wheel Hoss, and CH ‘PR’ Broome’s Black Missie. In a time when GRNITECHs were rare, Fiddler threw his fair share during the prime of his life. Dogs like GRNITECH ‘PR’ Dark Hollow Mac, GRNITECH CH ‘PR’ Picheca’s Susie Q, CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Cottonwood Hank, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Herbert’s Va. Fiddler, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Tennessee Temptation, CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Silver Creek Trump, CH GRNITECH ‘PR’ Ladner’s Sandy Cr. Bk. Ace, GRNITECH ‘PR’ French’s Tennessee Hank, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Wallace’s Black Mack, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Moccasin Cr Ben.

Later in his life, even after he turned 10-years-old he was still throwing quality hounds. Like the litter he produced out of NITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Black Ruby that had 3 of 7 dogs finish including, NITECH ‘PR’ Fiddler’s Master Piece, NITECH ‘PR’ Towsack Tom Bill II, and NITECH ‘PR’ Tennessee Wheelin Ruby II. Then 16 months later, just shy of his 12th birthday when he sired a litter out of NITECH CH ‘PR’ Swamp Brook Sue that had only 2 pups, but both finished out with hunt titles. Those 2 were NITECH ‘PR’ Foggy Hollow Black Tam and GRNITECH GRCH ‘PR’ Swamp Brook Tenn. Harv. The last of the GRNITECHs he sired came after his 10th birthday as well, including GRNITECH ‘PR’ Black River Mingo, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Tennessee Temptation III, GRNITECH ‘PR’ Catawba River Black Clyde, and GRNITECH ‘PR’ Henry’s Black Rattler.
