garmin dc 30 antenna ?

rigging up my own dc 30 to a beep beep collar and had a question. i've got garmin collar on day glo right now and was thining of shorting distance between gps antenna and dc 30 unit and then attaching beep beep collar. my only concern was that gps antenna would then not be facing upward and may not pick up as good. but i know alot of times that when i put hands on dog the dc30 has the lights blinking on his back and it works fine. Anybody else had any experience with trying this and what they done? got any pics? one place that does it want over 350 for it if they provide all the collars but i figure i got the collars and could probably punch a few holes and put some rivets on. THANKS
