Ginn is making herself at home at the farm. I have her kenneled with Bunnahabbian, my gyp pup off Upson's Rocky X Gertie. Ginn is a lean, leggy gyp of the type that I haven't had in my kennel in sometime. She acts good and lets Bunna chew all over on her with no nipping back... so far! Plan to get her feet wet in the timber next week, if not yet this week. I plan on possible registering her as Lake Huron Blue Crow Foot... as she out of Slew Foot X Stormcrow... I think her kennel name will remain Ginn as she answers well to that!

Had a nice hunt last night, even though it was near a full moon and 43 degrees... cold, quiet and bright! Treed the first one 36 yards from the truck with True Boy lighting it up! Crow back him... Brook tired to tree off, but ended up backing them up, even though I think she had one split but didn't hold it as it was 15 yards from the other 2. Second tree was Crow mastering it all in on a fence row Elm full of Virginia creeper giving the coon a lot of places to hide. True Boy and Brook made it to the tree after bumping a flag tail for a couple hundred yards before they found it better to break off and back Crow up. Hard to punish them when the corrected their own bad behavior... and ended up doing right! Here's some photos:

First tree with Crow:

Another of Crow on a nice Oak:

True Boy on the first Oak:

True Boy standing proud with Crow on a fence row Elm:

All three on the Elm. True Boy was actually looking up where I finally found the coon. Brook decided to look at me as I was clicking the pic:

True Boy and Crow one more time:

Opening night 2012. Made one den, one jam pile and one I didn't find. True Boy and Crow tonight, mother and son. The photo is from the first tree. True Boy smoked momma bad on this one. Gray birch den... it's been at least 12 years since I've treed on a gray birch den tree, mainly due to most of them now being dead and fallen over. Photo below of Crow on the gray birch. The den hole on the limb is covered up by her chest at when this was taken. Talked with Mike Fairchild and Karl Stacer. Karl reported that they ran quite a few bears and treed a few, but the treed ones were cubs or sows with cubs and the shooter with the tag couldn't get into position to shot the decent one they ran at him. Mike reports they still need to head out for Amanda's tag, and his Slew pups are looking good. Diamond and Pepper have pups on the ground out of Upson's Rocky. Don't know how many Mike's selling, as I know he's keeping a couple for himself.

Been a couple of weeks since I've been here with updates. True Boy continues to progress well. At times he like he will blow Crow out of the timber, and at times he looks like a young dog. Overall, I'm very happy with True Boy. Last week I only got out one night due to my wife being ill. Treed 3 with True Boy and Crow. Pictures will be added soon from that night. Last night I got out with a break from the weather - finally - after some very windy nights. Again treed 3 with Crow and True Boy. Had 2 real nice race, the first gave Crow fits and caused True Boy to come in to me ( I was nearly on top of them at the time). But they treed with a whole litter up a dead Green Ash in a fence row. I think having 4 coon together caused Crow to cross tracks too many times, but she figured it out. Man is she a tree dog! The rain we've gotten the past few days has helped with tracking, maybe too much for Crow as she seemed to like trailing in the dust that we've had all year up until this past week. The second tree was a fast slam dunk. I wish I had the camera with me as Crow was 4 foot up in the crotch of the tree and True Boy treeing up her hind end! The last on of the night was another long run ending in a dead White Ash tree. A big boar took True Boy and Crow for a stroll that actually was a fast track before that coon finally treed. Again, I didn't have the camera but those two looked right nice on the wood!

Full moon heading near, cold front coming on... a lot of wind last night and 3/4 full moon. Coon moved well for me, but they were small ones. Here's a couple nice photos of True Boy and Crow.

True Boy on a small oak that Crow got to first:

Same tree with ol' Crow:

Not a good one of them together, seems neither wanted on the tree at the same time when I had the camera ready. And yes, Crow does chew when she gets tired... as one can tell by the trunk of this tree:

A last one of ol' Momma on the tree:

I'm already getting interest in my next cross of Crow x Ben. Crow is due in heat in the next 2 months. I have 2 females and one male spoke for at this time. Dave Landis gave me a deposit last May at Bluetick Days for pick of the litter female. Steve McQueen from Georgia called today to reserve a female. I want to thank Guy Ormiston for sending Steve my way! Guy has been a great friend and mentor over the years and I really appreciate his advice and help. Leaves are down, weather is getting cold, even with the winds of this Hurricane coming in this week, I'll be hunting hard the next 2 weeks...

After a 4 night delay due to, among other things, Sandy and Halloween, I finally got out for the first night of my coon hunting vacation. First drop took me to a slick, then 3 trees within 100 yards of the slick with coon, including one that was a double (left one) then a long run into the middle of the section up a white pine that took me 20 minutes to find - another double with one left up. Second drop was a slick and a small coon (Two slicks in one night, doing well). Next drop was True Boy on a flag tail (thank god for my tri-tronics with good range) and no trees. The last one was lay up 50 yards from the truck by ol' Crow. Six coon night and I was wore out. Not as young as I think I am I suppose...

Crow and True Boy on the white pine:

True Boy on that white pine double:

Again Crow and her son True Boy:

End of the line results. A huge sow - 926 yards from the truck per the garmin:

Early night tonight! Had to met the fur buyer by 9:00 PM to unload this years catch. Sixteen coon fetched my $120.00. Not too bad. I set True Boy up on a deer the first drop and he took the bait until Mr. Tri-Tronics lit his ass up. He came back to Crow and they went to baying before slipping off up the ditch row. Crow treed while Mr. Garmin caught True Boy busting off to the west acrossed a plowed field. Mr. Tri-Tronics did his magic again and True Boy came back into Crow treed. On the way to the tree I came acrossed a fairly mauled possum with a broke hind leg... I believe the boneheads streched him a bit. After 2 quick slick trees????. I made another drop and both True Boy and Crow looked like a million bucks treeing 2 nice boar coon. True Boy is treeing harder and louder the more I hunt him. Early night back to home. Have to vote tomorrow and all, then it's back to north for more cooning!

My week of vacation and cooning is ending. True Boy has lost a lot of weight from all the hunting and I need to get weight back on him before winter. Crow has lost weight too, but she needed to loss it! I walked into too many slick trees this past week, which leaves me to wonder if I have the hounds I thought I did. Some of it can be chalked up to not hunting them into good enough shape before pushing them hard this week. On the other hand, both True Boy and Crow did some things that impressed me a lot... hard week and need a break... both for me and the hounds!

The weather is near perfect for hunting this time of year, and I'm laid low with poor health... ****ation. I lost old Gertie this weekend. She had been going down hill the past couple of months, lost a lot of her steam this past fall. Gertie wasn't yet 8 y/o, but I lost her mother ol' Starr when she was 8 y/o. I have my Upson's Rocky gyp pup Bunna out of Gertie and Karl Stacer has his good Ben male out of Gertie X Trip going strong. I want to thank Kyle Reid for coming over and burying the old girl down in the Pines for me, near where Poor Boy, Lazy and Ghost... She was a fun ol' gal to have around and I'll miss her...

Heard from Jim Richards from the UP of Michigan letting me know his 18 m/o gyp off Crow X Ben ran bear well this past year. His buddy has another male pup that is also doing well per Jim's report. I plan on making this cross again when Crow cycles, which should be in the next 4-6 weeks.

Shes doing great and is quite a smart pup for her age. Shes been with us for every coon we have dropped this year and we are at 59 so far. Shes starting to make moves on her own now. Sunday night we were out and she picked up and started the coon before the old dogs did. She has a lot to learn yet but shes doing real well for me.

Had a nice phone call this morning from Tom Clarke in Oklahoma. Tom bought a female pup off Trip X Gertie from me over a year ago. He told me he really likes the gyp and that she's in New Mexico right now being worked on bobcat and lion. He's looking for another bred like her. I told him about Ben X Crow, and the fact Ben is a full brother to his gyp and this seemed to impress him some... or I hope it did! I hope Crow comes in soon as I want to get those pups on the groung and out to you hard hunters! That was a good cross the first time around and I see no reason it won't work again!

Heard from Karl Stacer. They ran coyotes up north this weekend. He reports, "That Ben is one tough dog." He also said Lucy Lou did well (Ben x Crow). Crow's acting as if she's close to coming in heat. Hopefully we'll have a breeding again with Ben in the next couple weeks.

Crow will be bred this weekend to KDS Just Ben. This was a great cross the first time in 2010 and so it will be again.

I'm having some cardic issues that are keeping me out of the woods. Because of this I might think about selling my Upson's Rocky x Gertie female pup born in early June of 2012, or my Slew Foot x Crow female born in early March 2012. Both need work I've not been able to provide due to my health. $300.00 for either if anyone is interested, e-mail or PM me, or call 810-434-1868 and please leave message if I don't answer.

Thanks Scot. Hopefully Cam will get off his ass as promised and get in the woods with True Boy in tow. I think women and alcohol might be ruining that boy. Crow is going to Karl's tomorrow to be bred to Ben this weekend. Raining too hard to do much else other than getting things bred around here...
