Jason, Dixie is doing very well. She seems to be improving with every hunt. I am very pleased with her. She has been treeing coon nearly every time out. I have been working her in the daytime also, but I don't think there is anymore need in that now. She just makes me sit back and smile when I think how she is doing and progressing. I really believe she has the potential to be something special. I already think she's kind of special now. We will have to get together again for a hunt. I had a good time on our last hunt together. Give me a call and we will set up a hunt again.

I have missed putting my last few hunts on here, but I have been hunting Dixie and Zeus they have been looking good. I also hunted with John Bishop and Sonic a few nights ago. Sonic looked very good getting treed on 3 singles and a den that night. Sonic didn't waste anytime doing it. Sonic is a nice hound.

04-24-12 hunt,
I worked Dixie during the day today. She did a very good job. I decided to take her hunting tonight by herself. First drop, she hunts out kind of slow but stayed out there hunting. She is getting better on taking off hunting but I still consider it a little slow as of right now. Dixie gets struck on an unturned bean field. She moves the track across the bean field then down into the creek. She takes the track to a log jam in the creek, she trees on the the log jam for a bit, then finds away up on and across the jam. Dixie moves the track back up the creek towards the bridge. The track seems to have fizzled out. I get her on the lead and we head for a new spot. Next drop, she barks just a few times and nothing ever comes about with it. I get her on lead and we head for the truck. I beginning to think this night is not going to get any better, but I take her down the road and cut her again. She strikes in the field and move the track into a small patch of timber where she comes treed. I head in to her, I shine the tree and find her coon. I let her know she did a good job and we head for the truck. I was going to go home and end it on a good note, but decided to turn her loose on more time. I cut her loose one last time. Dixie gets struck and moves the track well, it's not long and she is treed. I sit back with my light out and listen to her tree for a while before I head in to her. I head into her. She is treed on a den, but I find the coon sitting on the outside. Dixie finished the night out well, and we ended it on a good note. All in all she did a good job. I take Dixie to Hardees for a Hamburger, to let her know she did a good job. She made quick work of the hamburger and I nearly lost a finger over her excitement of the tasty treat. Below is a picture of tonights last tree with Dixie.

I got another new project

I just picked up a young female out of Jack X Penny. This little female hasn't been fooled with much. I have heard and seen very good things about some of her littermates. I hope she does the same. Her actions around the house tell me she will not be a problem to get started. I'll start fooling with her in the timber in the coming days and nights. I am anxious to get her in the timber. So, far around the house, I'm liking her very much. Seems to be a smart pup. Hopefully, I can get some pictures of her on here in a few days or so. I would take her out tonight, but the wife has gotten me addicted to "Celebrity Apprentice"

05-08-12 hunt

Went hunting with Harold Johnson and his hunting buddy Darrell.

Harold brought Smoke, Smoke is out of Boomer x Joanie and he brought Sally. Sally is out of My Ambush dog and my Rat female. Sally is a sister to my Hardware dog and Harpeth River Blue Jack. I took my 12 month old little Dixie female out of Harpeth River Blue Jack X Mcginnis' Blue Thunder. I also took 10 month old little female call Sis. Sis is out of Harpeth River Blue Jack and Dual Grand Anderson's Fox Creek Penny. This was the 3rd time I have turned Dixie loose with other dogs. This was the 1st time I have turned Sis out with other dog. Sis didn't do much, but did stay out hunting pretty good. Dixie didn't do that great on the 1st and 2nd drop. She did come in and back Sally on a den tree late. Harold's Smoke dog did a nice job getting treed on 2 singles, Sally got treed on 2 dens, with Smoke backing on the 1st one and Dixie backing her on the 2nd one after we got to the tree. The last drop of the night, made my night. We just cut Smoke and Dixie together this time. Dixie strikes in quick, they move through this small section of timber and cross a field. We drive around for better hearing. When I pull up Dixie is opening in the timber next to a slew. Smoke trees, Dixie trees. Wow, Dixie has a great carrying mouth. By the sound of it, we think Dixie is treed a lot closer than Smoke. Dixie is putting the hammer down, super nice tree dog. As we get closer we see they are split treed about 40 yrds apart. Smoke is tight on his tree and Dixie is tight blowing the top out of her tree. I find a coon in Smoke's tree. Harold points out that Dixie's tree ties into Smoke's tree right where the coon is sitting. For no more than what Dixie has been hunted and messed with, I sure am liking her a lot. Dixie ended the night on a good note and sure made me smile, man what a tree dog. I just talked to Mike Dunn in Alabama and he told me the 3rd cross from Harpeth River Blue Jack X McGinnis' Blue Thunder is now on the ground(12 pups). Below is a couple pics of Dixie split last night.

DUAL GRAND PKC CH ANDERSON FOX CREEK PENNY

Dual Grand PKC Ch Anderson Fox Creek Penny has a "NEW" home. I would like to "CONGRATULATE" a friend of mine named Lowell Stewart in West Plains Missouri for being the "NEW" owner of this FINE female. Penny is one tough female, she is all business when you hit the timber. Penny has also proven herself to be a great mother, she recently had 10 pups and raised them all. Penny was bred to Cory Mailes' GrntCh Rattler dog. These pups are some fine looking pups. Lowell has 3 males from this cross that are for sale. They will be UKC Performance Eligible.

Lowell,
Congrats again and Best of luck to You and Penny. She's a special kind.

Penny

Chris,
I appreciate you allowing me to purchase Penny. She is a fine hound and will certainly add quality to my kennel in the future.Yes, she is an excellent mother and raised 10 fine looking pups.Cory's "Rattler" dog put his good looks in there as well.If they hunt like Penny and Rattler (as I hope they will) they will make some nice young hounds.Again, thanks for this opportunity and i'm sure you will have the chance to add more of Penny's blood into your program in time to come. And yes there are 3 good looking and nicely colored up males left that I will sell.I started a thread on them.

Calvin,
Thanks for the congratulations and i'm sure we will be hitting the woods together as soon as Penny is dried up.Possibly there won't be a safe coon in Ozark county.lol

05-10-12 hunt

Decided to take the two young females(Dixie and Sis) out for a little hunt last night. First drop, Dixie gets struck on the edge of a field. She takes the track on in to the timber. Dixie trees on a Hack berry tree right on the edge of a ditch. I shine her tree, and find the coon. I give her a pat on the head and tell her how pleased I am with her and we head for the truck. Sis didn't do much, but she stayed out hunting, she went off in her own direction. We load up and move. Next drop, Dixie strikes on a slew, she moves the track out then back around next to the slew, she hits up on a den, but she's not sure of it. She goes to checking and decides this den tree is where it ends. A couple coonhunters walk in on me looking for their Walker dog. Sis, is once again off in her own direction. I get them loaded and move. Last drop, Dixie gets struck, heats the track up good, then lets out 4 or 5 locates in a row. She doesn't do that . She never turns it over. She tries to move the track out of there but the track just seems to fizzle out. I tried to mark the area she located, the only thing I could really see that may have caused the locates was a shallow slew. I'm not really sure what happened there. It's getting late so we head for the house. Below are a couple pics of Dixie treed last night.

Thanks Donny. As for pups out of Jack, there is 10 pups on the ground 2 weeks old out of Harpeth River Blue Jack X McGinnis' Blue Thunder, this is the 3rd time for this cross. Already hearing very good things about the 2nd time cross, and they are 6 months old. Jack has also bred a very nice female with a big mouth that is out BOBO and ANN. The BOBO and ANN cross is a proven cross. Jack and the BoBo female's pups are due end of next month. There is also a Mr. Cooper from TN that is breeding his female to Jack this week. Mr. Cooper raised pups from his Cooper's Queen and Harpeth River Blue Joe years ago. Mr. Cooper's female goes back to his old stock out of Joe and Queen and is also Arkie breeding. This is what I know of for sure right now. If you need anymore info feel free to call me, or Mike Dunn.

WITH MY CURRENT SITUATION, I VERY WELL MIGHT BE IN THE MARKET FOR SOMETHING. JACK'S OFFSPRING HAS CERTAINLY GOTTEN MY ATTENTION. CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, BUT HE HAS PRODUCED NICE COON TREEING PUPS OFF DIFFERENT FEMALES OTHER THAN THE THUNDER GYP? I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A LITTLE PARTIAL OF THE JOE BLOOD. I GREW UP AND HUNTED WITH SOME JOE OFFSPRING THAT WERE FOR SURE THE RIGHT KIND.

Donny, I hope you find your hound, I have heard good things about him. Now to answer your question about Jack being bred to different females and producing nice coon treeing pups, the answer is yes. I'll tell you of the ones I personally know of.

Jack X Star produced my Zeus dog, he started when he was 6 months old. Treed his first coon by himself at 6 months old, I believe it was his 3rd night in the woods. He has been doing it ever since. He will be 2 in June. Zeus was the only living pup out of this cross.

Jack X Penny produced my Bash dog which I recently sold. He also started early, running and treeing with the old dogs at 5 to 6 months old. Treed his first coon by himself at 7 months old. This cross produced 8 pups. 5 of the 8 will run and tree the other 3 have not been worked much at all yet. This litter is almost 11 months old.

Jack x Thunder produced some nice pups, with 1 being a Nitech, Qualified for UKC World and has $250 won in PKC and 3rd runner up at this years Bluetick Days Junior Division Young Guns Hunt, Another one needs a first place to be Nitech and also was High Scoring Dog of PKC 2012 Spring Baby Stakes, also placing 2nd overall. Another one won his first cast he was put in with plus points at the 2012 Spring PKC baby stakes in the first round, earning money. Another one placed 2nd runner up at this years Bluetick days Junior Division Young Guns hunt. I also own a female from this cross that has only had the opportunity to be in the timber a handful of times and she has treed several coon, treeing her 1st coon by herself at 3 months old, I believe she will also be a winner. This 1st cross produced 8 pups. I have listed 5 of the 8. The other 3- 1 was shot around deer season, 1 was shot off a tree in AL, 1 was hit by a car. This 1st cross just turned 12 months old 1st part of May.This cross was made a 2nd time producing 8 pups. 1 is here in my country that is doing good. I was told it has treed 6 or 7 coon and is 6 months old. 2 down in AL are also doing very well running and treeing with other dogs and has treed on there own. 1 was snake bit. The others from this 2nd cross I don't know much about, they are in GA, AL, TN, NC, I believe. Mike has had contact from a couple of those owners that are very pleased. This 2nd cross is 6 months old. This cross has been made a 3rd time pups have just hit the ground. As of right now there are 10 living pups.

The above 3 litters I have hands on knowledge about. I have heard good things about some of the other pups out of Jack from different females that I have never seen. Mike Dunn can tell you more of these litters and the pups. I have heard of several pups that can't be bought from these other females. I know Mike would be happy to answer any questions you may have and I'm sure could give plenty of references on Jacks pups. Jack has some where around 60 plus pups with 40 to 45 of those 1 yr old or younger. The ones I have messed with seem to be naturals and very early starters. Some tree an intense 50 barks a minute to some treeing a very intense 100-120 barks per minute. I have seen very little trash trouble with the ones I have worked and have not heard of much trouble from any of the others. This thread has pictures of at least 3 different pups out of Jack and different females treed by themselves and with company. Check them out.

CHRIS, THANKS FOR ALL THE INFORMATION. THOSE ARE THE KIND OF NUMBERS I LIKE TO SEE WHEN SHOPPING FOR A PUP. I HOPE JACK GETS THE OPPORTUNITY TO COVER MORE FEMALES IN THE FUTURE. HE COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE THE IMPACT THAT OUR BREED NEEDS. I WILL PROBABLY BE CALLING YOU IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THANKS AGAIN.

Donny your welcome. Jack's opportunities to breed females has been limited, however he is starting to breed a few more outside females. Jack will be overlooked by many. That is just the way it is in the bluetick breed. I have overlooked many Blue studs out there myself. The main thing is what Jack is producing is making those who own pups out of him happy and wanting more. Jack is a very successful reproducer in my opinion. Jack has had a better opportunity than most before him. The breeding has always been there, it was mostly just used for our own use. Different situations have allowed Jack to be utilized more than what has been the "norm" for us. I'm glad Jack has been used as much as he has already. It will open many different opportunities for us breeding in the future to carry on this particular bloodline that we have enjoyed for many many years now.
