Built a bench...long time coming, but got it done.

Now it's time to get Jo-Ann done and move Jack on to GRCH. =) Practice makes perfect.

Had a good good night for the Redbones at the Houston County Coon Club. I'm headed out to get a bite to eat, but I'll put up all of the details when I get back.

3/10/2012

We had one heck of a night for the Jabo breeding at the Houston County Coon Club.

Jon Christmas took Jim, my wife Amanda took Jo-Ann, and I took Jack....and boys it was on.

Jim took breed and class. Poor Jon couldn't get him to act like he did here at the house or he would have walked away with it too....as for how many points he needs.....I'll have to ask Jon.

Jo-Ann gave it to the Walkers for the Best of Show female, and only needs 60 more points for Champion.

Jack got up there and acted like he knew what he was doing in the Champion class and got his first win towards Grand Champion.

Now to the cast. I cast out with three very nice younger dogs, it was a 2 1/2yrs old English, 18month old Walker, and a 17 month old Walker. We cut them loose and they took off hard. Jack got struck in 4th and then nothin....all of the other dogs were going left handed at quite a pace when all of the sudden Jack fell treed to the right. We got in there too him and he had the meat. That put me at 150+.

Later on in the night I made a handling error that cost me the cast and 3rd place in the hunt. But at the end of it all of the other dogs were in the minus and I had 0 even. But for my first hunt in 8 years I'll take it. Jack was the only dog in the cast to be completely by himself with the meat. He did a great job for me, and I feel like we were a good ambassador for the Redbone breed...and that's what counts.

He's right there on her heels. If he will act right for you at the next one and look as good as he did here at the house....which was a picture perfect stance...he'll pull to the lead I believe.

Good luck Kent. nice to know you have enough confidence in Jack to put him to the test. not yet 15 mo old. not bad. LWS.

Thanks Larry. I'm sure he'll do me proud....now if I can just do him proud lol.

He showed me enough this last Nite Hunt to go ahead and get started on this HTX title. When Jack treed his own against the pressure of the other dogs being wide open I decided then that I would go ahead and start the HTX hunting. Plus it gets him into the woods on his lonesome. =)

Whoops The HTX hunts (2 of them) are next weekend. One is at Springfield, TN and the other is at Erin, TN.

This weekend is a tune up / pleasure hunting weekend. There isn't a hunt under 100miles from the house....so to the timber we go to set up feeders and nesting boxes. =)

I just checked the traps, nothing yet but with 3 out and me doing it every night we have to get something. Call me so i can bring over the squirrel cages, I am ready for some squirrel dumplings. YUMMMY!
I am planning on going to AL next weekend and taking my walkers, there is a PKC event in Cullman AL. Its about 20 miles from where i will be. The nearest UKC hunt is going to over an hour away. I wont be able to help do the nesting boxes until SAT when i get back from AL. This Weekend, Ive got a 50lb bag of crap to put into it. I am not sure if they will eat if, might want to mix some cat food with it?

Well we went huntin on Wednesday night. It definitely wasn't the best showing, but all of the Jabo pups did well. They hunted out, struck a track....but blew up on it.

Well.....that's huntin young dogs for ya. We'll try again this weekend. See you at the hunts.

Great Hunt Last Night

Last night I has a great hunt, Daisy treed on a possum. I did not punish her for it. Just kept her from playing with it and told her no.
You can see the video of last night at. http://www.youtube.com/autosurflink

Just got a call from Jon, Midnight Moon Hillbilly Jim has treed with the meat at 9 months old. I'll let Jon put the story up, but man did Jim sound good in the background.

Jon's done a heck of a job with Jim, he's put a bunch of hard work and sacrifice into that young hound and it's showing. Job well done Jon.

Jim and Dixie

I will post details tonight when I get in from werk. I am jus so excited and pleased with the way Jim performed that I couldn't hold off on postin the Pictures.

Jim is 9 months old and was never hunted until he was 6months old. I am highly impressed with the amount of progression he has shown, he still has a long way to go, but I do believe he can now be considered a started dog.

Jonathan, thanks for the call last night, just to think you've only had that Jim pup about 3 months. and it has been good to hear and see Jim's steady improvement. 1.3 miles and treed with the meat. not bad bud. keep up all the good hard work it takes to give Jim all the chance he needs to make it to his full potential. take care. LWS.

HTX

Well I took Jack to his first HTX hunt last night.

I cut him loose and he went on into the wood line. After he was gone for about 40-45mins the house dog started barking behind us.

Come to find out the dog in the pen was in heat.....so we just loaded up and went on back to the club house. He spent his first HTX hunt hunting something entirely different than coon. lol

Oh well, I can't fault him for goin over there. We were super close and no one knew she was in heat. Plus he's still only 16months old, still got a lot of pup left.

There is always tomorrow night at the Cottontown Nite Hunt to redeem himself. =)

Well last night could have gone better, but it could have gone worse.

Jo-Ann, Jim, and Jack all won the show portion.

I ended up withdrawing from the hunt. Too much Tom foolery for me to hang around in that cast.

There is always next weekend.

He finally got his best of show with competition last night, so now he only needs 35pts to finish.
And the best part is that he beat out Andy's Duke dog for the win.
