"STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN"
Last night Dad and I took Edge and Chief out. (Edge being my new "beagle on 'roids".) We did a drop in the valley where there is a pasture on each side of the creek with steep bluffs on each side.
Edge ran right towards the creek immediately, and Chief ran away from us, parallel to the creek. About 3-5 minutes later Chief struck about 100 yards away from us where he had been running to. Immediately after striking, Edge joined in right beside him. They carried on a little further, and then after getting out of the creek bottom and comin' across the open field, the track turned real hot for them. They went into the woods and sounded like they were going to tree. I think ol' ringtail played a trick on them. Edge started coming around the hillside runnin' all hot and bothered again with Chief not too far behind. They took track up the hill and located. It didn't sound quite right, so Dad and I climbed the hillside... hillside is an understatement. Dad and I got to a point where we were diggin' into the ground to pull ourselves up closer to the dogs. At one point I looked back and when I saw that going back down that way was not going to be an option. My dad told me, "whatever you do don't slip!!"
With our assending into the high altitudes, I started wondering when I was goin' to be able to see our maker. We still weren't to the dogs!! Once we got up to the dogs after scaling the hillside, diggin and pullin our way up, and me dodging rocks that were lettin loose from Dad's climb, we finally got to where we thought we were close to the dogs.
We were caught up in a cedar tree mess. Visibility was down to about 1 pine needle!! We were standing between two rocks and the rocks were about 8 feet tall. I finally said I could hear Chief and Edge breathin up there. So I climbed the peak of the mountain another 8 feet and was met by two hounds that seemed to have look on their faces of "how did we get up here? and how do we get down?"
I leashed up Chief first and handed the strap down to Dad. I then lassoed Edge and started belly crawlin' back to the edge so I could climb back down. I was so high up, I'm surprised Dad and I didn't get nosebleeds. I climbed down between the two rocks, and had to grab a hold of Edge above my head and bring him down to my level. The look of relief in both dogs to be off of that rock peak was priceless.
Dad and I decided that we couldn't go back down the way we came up especially with two dogs. We decided to travel the ridge back and slowly angle down the backside of that "mountain". Once we got back down we decided had it been day time, we wouldn't have walked that.
Where they first struck brought back memories of when I was hunting Foxy, Ginger, and Kylie and the track was taken that direction. That night ended with not gettin Ginger or Kylie back for a week, wonder if they were stuck up on that peak? Dad and I decided we might have ourselves a "ghost coon" on our hands.
Would've made for some excellent pics, but we decided to just pass and get back down. Maybe Dad was worried about the nose bleed thing??

I think Brandon might make a good story teller. Also he didn't take any pictures is i think he was so scared his knee's where shaking to bad so i had to get him down off the hill and two dogs but still it was a fun hunt i think them dogs learned alot from a smart coon.

STORY TELLIN'
So maybe I like to tell a few tales every now and then....
However, you try being raised in the "hilly terrain" and becoming a "hill person" then moving down where it's all flat farm land. It just doesn't feel right. Now when I go back I forgot how steep some of the hills are. And to think, I still miss them!!!!

Hey Brandon i was talking to coon to day and he said we should be careful up there because he us to kill rattlesnakes up there so it warms up we will have to watch out. And probably better not let your mom know. I don't think she would like it.

More reason to go up there, just keep your hearing aid turned up. I want to catch one and get it mounted or have the skin to display. Of course if the opportunity were to present itself, I'd prolly need another set of britches cuz mine would be plum full!!!

"DEBUT"
See, I'm just waitin' till I make my competition debut, I wanna have luck like Bill had. Of course maybe it's not luck.... Maybe Bill is onto something and if he is, good luck gettin' him to tell ya, hard enough for him to say "hello".
Either way, a mighty fine congratulations!!! I'm just waiting my turn and I'm not going to enter something I'm not confident in. The way it's been goin' lately, it's not the dog's fault, but my own. Just not hunting them hard enough. I have two dogs I'm mighty excited about, and they hunt really nice when let loose toghether, but solo they still need a little bit more "experience" before that crank is finally turned over. Again, this is all based on my own opinions and observations.... But I don't know anything about anything... (YET!!!!)

Whew, looks like I haven't been on here in a while! Thanks everyone for the congrats on River and Rocket and Dip.
Thankfully, we made it home in one piece but we are exhausted! We had a great time in Flora at Black and Tan Days. We saw a lot of old friends, and made a few new ones as well. As Scott posted, Rocket won Class and Breed Redbone Male, and Dip won Class and Breed Redbone Female. Clyde also won line and tree in his heat in the water race, and Rip won Grand Final Line in the Champion Heat of the Water Race, and Ox won Grand Water Champion Grand Final Line and Tree. Rip also won Grand Field Champion Grand Final Line and Tree in the Field Trial.
Here is a neat video of the Champion Heat of the Water Race. In it were WCH Red Fever Worlds Foxxy Lady (pink), GRFCH WCH GRCH Red Fever Razor's Rip N Tear (green), and WCH FCH CH Tree Rizin' T-Rex II "Tracker" (white) owned by Sam and Sabrina Smith, TN. Congrats to Sam, Sabrina, and Tracker on winning Grand Final Tree!! Also, thanks for helping us with the kids at the water race! We look forward to seeing you again at Redbone Days!
Just a recap for the video:
Green - Rip - Grand Final Line
White - Tracker - Grand Final Tree
Pink - Foxxy - AIR DOG
