It takes a team, you have to have 2 people to hold the heads, 2 to hold the tails and 1 to supervise! Here is a picture of Moe from Mon night. I remembered my camera but forgot new batteries so the flash did not work and they turned out real dark, sorry. That is Pearl with him.

I'll say...what a crew is right!!
I'll have to say though that Richard is looking kind of spiffy with the new hair cut...hardly recognize him. The rest of you guys...pretty much look the same and that's a compliment.
Richard...thanks for posting a picture of Moe and Pearl, it's good to see them doing their thing.

Great pictures Mark...it looks like a great time and I enjoyed hearing them treed last Saturday afternoon when you called...that worked out pretty good.
I think this season has made a mark on Cuz and Slim, both are very nice young hounds but I don't know if either are two years old yet so what a great bit of work for them this year. It will be fun to see how they turn over towards treeing coons again...
Mark M...I just got back this afternoon from NC but the weather hasn't been so bad...patience...patience...we'll have him cooking in short order...kind of like a short order cook...eh? It was sure nice out east with temperatures near 70 yesterday and actually some sun shine and green grass...
It will be a little while yet before steady work for these youngsters here in the yard but not long and they'll be ready to go.

Dagger
You're right Mark...Dagger is getting impatient also...he's in good shape and full of energy but it's going to be a couple of weeks before we're able to get him going in the woods if the weather keeps up like predicted. I hate to say it but it's starting to look like winter is finally going to make an appearance in March...and that sucks considering that I'm ready for spring and for decent nights to come around.
I think this is always the worst time of year because we know that winter isn't done yet but spring fever starts to set in so every snow fall makes it miserable to deal with.
Oh well, we'll do some messing around with these pups to keep their heads in the game and when the time comes, they'll be ready to go.
Time to head to the woods and start filling the wood shed again before this next snow storm blows through.

Great pictures Mark, those are top quality shots of lions treed in the wild...and it don't get much better than that.
The dogs look good and that's a pretty darned good season no matter how you look at it...in fact it's a GREAT season!
It will be interesting to see how the dogs take to switching back to coons but I guess it's not too early to think about it seeing as how March is already here next week.
Good luck...I hope they don't jump a lion down on the river...that would make for an interesting night...eh?

Training day
The weather got a lot nicer than what was expected today so even though the wind was blowing 25, it got up near 47 degrees and some sunshine so pretty darned nice.
I did a little one on one training today with Dagger and an 11 month old female I all Sugar...turned out pretty good.
This is Dagger...
This is Sugar...
The following are a couple of video clips I took starting with Dagger as I was walking in to him. I thought I'd catch him coming on the tree but was a hair late with starting this...but it's still kind of cool to listen how they settle into a tree like this...
Dagger when I got to the tree...
This is Sugar...
Dagger is tight line bred and is showing some good traits for only having a couple of exposures like this. Today was his first time doing a harder track and he did real well. He followed the track and located the tree quick and set it up nice and with some intensity.
Sugar is also very tight line bred and is just 11 months old. This is also her second exposure but this time, she did it all on her own so I was pretty pleased with the outcome. She located the tree quick enough but wasn't real sure of what to do next but just a word of encouragement from a distance tripped her trigger and moved her forward in a big way...she's a nice prospect with good blood flowing through her veins and she's good looking to boot so a nice package.
Dagger doesn't need too much more of this kind of training and will be ready for night work as soon as the ground thaws and stays that way. I don't like to move them forward with training as the ground transitions because what they learn to do well on frozen ground isn't what they need to learn to do well on open ground. Eventually and with time, they learn it top to bottom but now is the time to let them learn on open ground because that's the season we're moving into.

Tom I sure enjoyed the pictures and video. Bet Dagger will be a nice cooner in time. Dave
Hi Tom
Here's a nice picture of NITECH CH FICKEN"S GREATFUL DEAD RED
that Dan Rankin sent me!!!
Red
Red looks good John...that's the way we'd always find old Rabble Rouser...glued to the side of the tree and always with his front feet up and treeing most every breath. He's a good looking hound and reminds me a lot of the old boy...
I'll enjoy watching his pups grow up over the next couple of years...it would be great if he'd carry on the reproducing abilities of his daddy...and he sure has the blood to do it.

Hey Tom
Trying my best to get him bred to some good females!! I hope he will reproduce like Rabble Rouser, I am feeling really blessed to own him.
Tom I might be interested in one more female that's line bred Rabble Rouser that's a really good coondog. Would like to help this line more. Thanks John

Tom I sent you a picture of the reward after the tree but didn't know if you could post it.
Browntown's T-Top Moe
Moe
He looks in good shape Richard...that's good to see.
That was a good litter of pups, it will be interesting to see how it all plays out as they get past 2 years of age and start to mature over the next couple of years.

Badger
I got some pictures from Bret H today from his hunt last night with Badger.
Badger treed with the meat...
Badger keeps coming along, he's a pretty nice pup and keeps progressing like a good young prospect should.

How about that MOE?
Tom,
I hope is having as much fun with him as I did. He should be doing well. I have Pearl and we are having fun. It gose along ways with this dogs or any if there put in the woods to see what the can really do. Lets hope the best for them as MOE moves into his own.
Dogs
That's right Robbie, it doesn't matter what the blood if a prospect doesn't get a chance to prove him or herself. Too many folks figure they come out trackin' and treein' and then the disappointment of learning that it actually takes some effort is sometimes too much for them...
I know that you understand this whole deal and you've learned like some others that a young dog takes time to turn into what they're going to turn into and only time and repetitions will prove one way or the other what they're capable of.
I've made this comment before and I suppose some folks might not have liked it much but in my years of experience with dogs...most dog issues are really "people" issues and nothing more. Of course, there's a point of no return with dogs but part of being a capable trainer is to recognize talent and then give the opportunity while another is to recognize the lack of talent and cut your losses short.
You put in your time with a nice young prospect and brought him a long ways, most of the time without the help of an older dog to get him going. There will always be an issue to work through with just about any dog...I've yet to see one perfect in every way...but that's part of the game. If you see that the talent is there, then you teach them right from wrong, put them out where there are coons and then let their talents shine through...that's as good as it gets.
I'm really looking forward to this spring and summer because there is some good young talent out there...some better than others but that's what makes it fun. I love the game of waiting and working to see who rises to the top and maybe even helping out along the way...
