Every now and then one will get bit. They are just fine after a couple of days and swelling gone. Shot of Dex, benadryl and SMZ.
Don't worry kids I'm not guiding any youth in my yard. Strangely at mom's less than 1/2 mi down the road we've killed 1 in over 40 years. I'm sure there's some in the timber there where we hunt but we never see them just an occasional water snake on the creek.

In over 7 decades of beating the bushes I have been hit by 2 copperheads but never bitten. More like warnings. Ironicly I have been bitten twice by blacksnakes that actually brought blood. Neosporin took care of that. Worst about a blacksnake is they will vibrate their tail like a rattler just before they hit and if in dry leaves or a cardboard box you'll think rattler just before they bite. Not sure about dens but living where I do with my house and kennel bordered on three sides by water I have my share of snake trouble. I've found out if a female moves in you will usually just have her and a bright colored male the first year. If you don't get her the first year the next year you will be covered up in 28-3o" inch snakes the second year. If you can kill the female , which is usually a dull colored large snake before babies you can get them under control. Had one big female move in around the kennel this year but a 410 pistol took care of that.
I've got a big black that stays in my feedroom that when he's laying in the rafters I can reach up and rub his belly and it don't bother him. He's actually one that bit me. Have a cardboard box on a shelf that I keep strings and rags to tie up tomato plants with and I reached in without looking. Heard the buzz just before the bite. It will make you draw your hand back in a hurry. Might even put skid marks in your drawers. lol
