Just got home a little bit ago from the Dave Dean Tribute Hunt. What a great time that was. Made the trip with Buck and Perry. Half the fun is getting there is an understatement. Love making trips like this with good friends.

The weather was wild on Friday night. We got dumped on and the wind made it come in from all different directions. Had a couple bad breaks on Friday night, but still had a great cast and Tucker Shirley's Zena female looked sharp and deserved the CW.

Saturday night the weather cooperated a little better and stayed in the upper 20's. Had another great cast and was fortunate to win the cast with 400+. Wasn't enough for a NtCh win, but I was impressed with Tramp for not being hunted as much as I'd like. This was also the first comp hunt I've been to this year. It sure fired me up and I hope to get ready for some more.

Here is a pic 30 min into the cast on Friday night to give anyone that wasn't there an idea of what we hunted in.

Last Friday night Travis Saunders came up for a hunt. He bred his Emma female to Tramp a while back, and she is in heat again and he had the itch to go. My 5 mo old Tramp x Emma female flipped a switch on cats the day before, so I took her with. She stayed at our feet on the first dump, but stayed with Tramp n Hank the rest of the night. By the end, she was opening up left handed from the other dogs. I really like what I've got going with her. Here is a video of her treed with her Dad.

The next night Tramp and I tried our luck at a local hunt in Brooklyn, Wi. Tramp was winning the cast at 225+ after a 3 way split where all 3 dogs had a coon. I know many use this excuse and we all question how true it is, but I definitely treed him when he wasn't, and it cost me 75- and a CW. The tree was slick and Tramp finished the track to a den while the dog with 1st tree stayed. It was hot off the lead, and I got excited. Tramp looked decent, but I definitely didn't. Hopefully I'm gonna be at more hunts this year than I was last year. Would really like to see him GrNtCh as I feel he is more than deserving.

No dice on the CW last night. Drew a former 4wheeler winner and no stranger to final 4's. I was still happy with Tramp's performance. The difference maker was Tramp had more trees, but his were dens. Tramp's last tree of the night he was cut back in and treed ahead of the other dogs out on track with the coon. Too little too late though. Was a great cast, just didn't get our breaks.

Saturday night's cast fell apart after the downpour rolled through. Prior to that Tramp was up 250 points. He then decided that a dead elm with a bunch of vines growing through it on a fence line smelled too good to pass up, and him and 2 others held onto it. That cost me 175- and I was only up by 75 points going into last dump with 14 min left to hunt. 3 dogs went right handed and treed one, and Tramp went off by himself left handed and i treed him as the hunt expired, but knew he wasn't treed right, and he ended up being in a thick nasty ditch with some brush in it. It was an enjoyable cast, and even more enjoyable zone 3 championship. Thanks so much to the Shell Rock Club for hosting a well run event, and even bigger thanks to Mitch Mueller. Mitch had full intentions of hunting Saturday night until the time came where a guide was needed and he sacrificed his hunt to take our cast to the woods.

Thanks Scott! My new hours at work should help me be able to get some more hunting in, but Nikki still works weekends and I'm not so ambitious that I want to take a 3 1/2 yr old boy who never shuts up and a 9 mo old little girl to the woods on a cast. I never dreamt finding a babysitter would be so impossible. I just hope I can get Tramp to GrNtCh before it is too late.

Our hide season is now officially open. Went out Friday around 1am and Tramp caught one in the woods after a 200 yd track. Called it a night as I was having Garmin issues, then last night I didn't get home till about 11pm and we got hit with a lot of rain so I ended up watching some TV and falling asleep in the recliner. Tonight we're going out at dark and hopefully bringing a young dog along. My door is always open for anyone who wants to tag along. Just get a hold of me.

DC30 won't turn on and my DC50 broke a buckle. I ordered a replacement collar last night for the 50.

I have one DC30 that will charge for a minute and quit and it won't turn on. The other DC30 works, but antenna got ripped off and the screws are stripped to get it apart. I'm gonna work on it tonight to get it apart.

Here is a picture of Rebel. He was a liver colored male out of Tramp x Dot. A friend of mine wanted him as a pet and brought him into the house and house trained him. He hasn't ever messed with him, and they are 1.5 yrs old without looking at papers to confirm. The other night he took Rebel to a friend's house and Rebel took off out of the yard as they were walking to the door and treed it like he has done it before. Sounds like my friend is gonna start coon hunting a little, as he thought that was pretty fun.

My friends from Michigan, Yancy Goodlock and Jeff Bufford were down a cpl weeks ago for a cpl nights of coonin. We had 2 nights of good hunting and the dogs did some good work. Lil Moose is a straight up coon dog that trees um as he gets to um. Here is a pic with what we managed to get Friday night. Also here is a picture of my bowkill I got Halloween morning. Wish i cld say I had more time for hunting now my deer tag is filled, but I've been busy doing other things. Need to get back after it soon. Offer still stands for anyone who wants to go hunting.

82 nights passed before I got my boots and light on and went and unsnapped a dog. Last night I broke the streak and took Tramp out. Other than the 2 slicks in the first spot on 2 tangled box elders, he looked pretty good. Unsnapped him, kicked snow in my face, moved tracks good and rolled up treed nice. After the 2 hiccups he finished at a hole, then 2 singles. The last coon he really grubbed up an old track and finished it, unfortunately it was right behind a little old lady's house and 1am. I didn't know who lived there so I woke her up and promised to be in and out quick. I wish I had asked about shooting the coon cuz it was a monster and really light colored. At first we thought it was a cinnamon. I prolly would've had it mounted had we shot it. Maybe next time....

Been doing some hunting as of late. Idk who is getting into better shape, me or the dogs. We had a rutting boar take us on a journey the other night. By the time we were done hunting that section I looked at the Garmin and figured the mile walk to my house was MUCH better than walking back to the truck.

I'm getting excited for the spring hunts. I think I only made it to 4 hunts all last year. Tramp needs 3 wins to be GrNtCh and the only way that is gonna happen is by paying some entry fees and crossing some fingers.

Got my bluebook also yesterday. Another awesome book as usual! Great work to all involved. I was going to put in an ad this year, but realized I missed deadline a week after it. Maybe next year!

Getting the comp hunt itch again so I hunted the few days before BBOA Days and took Tramp to Bellevue for the weekend. Thursday night I hunted against 2 nice dogs in the invitational, but it was definitely a warm up for me as I wasn't even aware of some rule changes. Friday night we had a stroke of luck and won our cast with 525+. It was the craziest last 6 min in a hunt I've ever had. 6 min to go, some argument about whether to split strike or not, then all dogs got treed before time was up. I didn't hear judge tree his dog, and he didn't hear me tree mine. We go in and find dogs split treed, and both trees had coon in them. It ended in a heated discussion, but we shook hands and signed the score card. Saturday night a wicked thunderstorm paid us a visit while we were out hunting. It really made things interesting as about every tree seemed to make one dog shine more than the other. I was happy to see a 16 yo boy in his 5th hunt score 1050+ and win it all. I offered to hunt a 3rd hour, as my tired dog was surprisingly starting to come on strong with his performance, but everyone was more interested in getting out of their wet clothes.

Also brought home a pup from Damon Shivers that wasn't planned. With any luck maybe she will be gf for Tramp someday.

Also talked to a guy last night about possibly leasing his female to breed to Tramp when the time is right. She is a loud coon tree'er with a pedigree to boot. If interested, get a hold of me and I can keep you in the loop as things transpire. I will pay Tramp up as a performance sire if it is gonna for sure happen.

I have an 18 mo old female off of Tramp here that is gonna be going to new home tonight. I wish her new owner the best of luck as she is showing a lot of potential.

Kinda figured this thread would've been deleted by now due to inactivity.

Hide season is open here and I've already hunted more this year than I did all of last year I think. Always willing to take someone hunting who may be interested. I can go just about every night, some nights I just don't want to be out too late.

Tramp made it look easy on 3 coon last night after my younger dogs seemed to struggle. I had a friend with last night so we decided to get the "old man" out so he could see what it was all about. Especially since he thought a dog that was out 100 yards was pretty far away.... lol He went home to get up for work in the morning when Tramp was treed 800 yds up a river bottom. He had a big coon treed in a tree that it could've been shook out of.
