All in the family just like i like them no out crosses for me lol.

Who knows Hobo when Randy and i get these Boone bred dogs going again down here in Kentucky we may make a cross and have the Boone dog of the future just a waIting for a breeder like you..ha ha.

Hobo i bet you get more business on SwampMusic Pride this year than any year of his life.

Pride is now a proven stud dog.

Pride has pups spread out of WV. and Virginia to many other surrounding states.

A dog usually is 7 or 8 years old before GR.NTS. and NT.CH. dogs start showing up on the scene and performance money really start rolling in.

The other kc's i know nothing about so i want be commenting on them for i have no ideal how they work.

Hobo i feel that 10% or less pups find their way into competition hunters hands that will keep them and stay the course to finish them out to a gr.nt.ch.

I am a long time breeder myself, but one thing I never let get in my way as one is jealousy. I saw a lot of that as a young coonhunter and breeder wanna be. I couldnt figure out why men 10 miles from each other both with outstanding coondogs would not breed to one another due to jealousy.

I bred to the best dogs I could find whether they were 100 miles down the road or 20 miles down the road. I Knew a couple guys like I described above so I went a bought the best female I could find from one of those guys and bred it to the best male dog the other one had. Guess what? It was the foundation cross of all my hounds. They could have done the same thing but chose not to.

I kept doing the same thing over and over again and it has kept me in dogs that please me greatly for over 30 plus years.

I respect and recognize hard work when it comes to breeding these walker hounds. usually the measuring stick for me is when I see someone like Hobo who breeds to keep a pup for himself and then just sells whats left.....well that is a great place to start. As yall know theres not a bunch of money in it for backyard breeders like ourselves. We do it for the love of it and to keep a nice hound.

I had rather buy a pup from someone like that than a big stud dog owner who is breeding anything that backs up as long as the cash is in hand. thats why we have the mess we have these days with our walker dogs and why the black dogs and blue dogs are tearing up jack like at the winter classic. That was a plumb embarassment on the presentation sunday. Mercy.......

Thanks for the kind words Cripple Creek. I've just tried hard to not mess up what I started with when I went to Mike Dohoney's and bought Lobo as a pup.

I have given away more pups than I have ever sold.

Line breeding is the key and you do it well.
Boy I miss the old dohoney dogs and spring creek rock dogs. Mike loved him some spring creek Rock. He also started with great females as well.

yes sir...

I kept up with every cross he made and learned a lot by following how me made crosses and he never let the lack of titles stop him from making crosses. He knew and understood DNA and bloodlines. He had one of the first half bro and half sister crosses that got promoted in ol Mike.

Its funny you mention the 1/2 brother and sister cross. I've stayed away from that cross myself, my Dad keeps trying to get me to do it. The closest I've crossed has been a full uncle/ niece cross. Its how I came up with Pride and then I bred his sister back to their full uncle Benson last year. So far I've been getting good reports on that cross, but I feel those pups need to be outcrossed instead of bred back into something heavy bred from my stuff.

yea....I think thats smart breeding.

Just knowing when to outcross is the key and to what is even a bigger question. I wrestle with that one. One cross can undo years of trying to get it right. It is so hard to find the total package these days. track, tree, mouth, balance,looks and nose. the nose is the part that is really being bred out.

I started feeding them last week, usually the first few times they just eat a little or don't eat at all.... These pups went hawg crazy over it. LOL
