Hunting

Took Cotton alone last night. Could not get after a track. First drop she went 500yds and finally struck. Got track up and going worked it for about 400yds and went in underground spring. She wont really tree in ground but keeps locating. Turned loose again, Cotton went about 250 opened on bad track. Worked track up creek for about 200yds and same thing. Locating in side of creek bank. Coons seem to go in ground when this full moon is shining. Try again tonite!!

Rain

Hunted in rain last night. Hunted Cotton alone. Pouring rain. Two turnouts and two dens. She hunted good and done all she could do. Try again Monday night.

Cotton

Turned Cotton loose last night alone on first drop. She hunted out good. After about 45 minutes she had not struck so i drove around and caught her up. Turned out next time with two other dogs. Dolly ( a 3 yr old ) and Rickett (a 3yr old ) . They left hard and soon all three were struck. It became evident that Cotton wasnt with the other two. Cotton worked her track up in the hills and slammed a tree. Sounded like the other two were treed deeper. Cotton really hammered tree. Got there and it was a big den. Dolly ended up coming in to Cotton's tree before we left. Drove around to Rickett and he came out to truck. Looks as if he was in ground. Hunting Cotton alone has helped her confidence for sure. Really proud of her last night to just get alone and get treed! She is still young, so still some learning to do.

Hunt

Took Cotton alone last night in the cold and rain. 1st drop she went 375 yds and just fell treed on an old lay up coon. Had the meat, he was up there sleepin!! Turned loose again and she went 300yds and struck a good track. Ran him hard straight up the creek and located but wasnt right. Got in there and she was in side of creek bank. Turned her out again with the rain increasing. She went 150yds and struck red hot. She ran the heck out of that track but Mr. Coon wasnt climbing. After about 25 minutes he headed to the beaver swamp. that was a mistake because that screamin blue gyp was closing ground on him fast. Wasnt long til I heard that death cry as Cotton put an end to his running and caught him on the ground. Not too bad for this little young gyp in the rain and wind. I was proud of her!!!

Thanks Jason, she has came a long ways. Hunting her alone 4 nghts a week every week for the past two months has paid off. Sometimes I wondered if it was worth it but she has progressed well. I think she will be really nice when all is said and done. Got her papers sent in to UKC, as soon as I get them back Im gone hit some hunts with her.

Ukc hunt

Hunted Dolly in ukc hunt at Glenn Allen Saturday night. Didn't win but didn't do too bad. Had 2nd strike and 1st tree on first turn out. Den tree circled up 3 dogs. Walker gyp not there. Turn off tree and take 2nd strike again on old bad track. Dolly located and I put her on paper 1st tree. Another blue gyp I owned and sold to a buddy located as well and he treed her. Wasn't long and it was obvious they were movin on. Minus 125. Went DEEP. Walker gyp treed 1st dolly 2nd. Coon seen. Ended up making two more dens and walker gyp won cast with 150+. Dolly ended up with 25 +. Needed to see coons in dens and not draw the minus. Dolly has a first and I'm bout to turn handling responsibilities over to my son Drake. Me and Cotton are bout to get wound up.

Thanks Gerald. I got Cottons papers sent off. Dolly has a first so I hunted her to see if I could snag me a win. As soon as Cottons papers get back I will be hunting her in some hunts. Been hunting her alone 99% of the time so I will see how she reacts in a cast. Hopefully be alone with meat. She has proven to be very accurate so when she sits down I am confident that she has got the meat. How is Shelly looking? Anxiously waiting.

Hunt

Had a pretty good little hunt last night. Took my new gyp BB. She has been in heat and hasn't been hunted much in about 3mths. Turned her out and she left hard but came back after about 10 minutes. After we had a talk she left out and struck about 185yds. She located but moved on working a track. At about 300 yds she let out two big locates and treed. She treed good and had coon. Time will tell what I have with her. She is Treeslammin Hillbilly bred. Turned Cotton out alone and she struck a bad track and bumped around on it for awhile. She finally got it going and treed about 450 yds in bottom. Treed good and had meat as well. Turned her out again and she struck wide open. Ran the fire out of coon but headed towards road. Pulled up road and walked down in creek. Heard something coming wide open up creek and flipped on light. Coon running full speed and Cotton about 30 seconds behind him. Hated to but caught her up as she was headed to a busy road. Ole coon better be glad or he could have gotten caught!!! Keep'em Lookin UP!! Darren

hunt

Went for a couple turn outs last night. Turned my new female Bell (BB) loose alone. She went about 100yds and struck but didnt sound right. Shortly afterwards I could tell she was in the ground. Tritronics persuaded her to move on down the bottom. She struck a track about another 150yds and began to work a bad track. BB worked the track towards a big swamp and let out two big locates and hammered down on a tree. Got to her and she had the coon. Put her up and turned Cotton alone down and old slough run. She left hard and struck about 450yds in on the creek. The coon gave her a hard time in and out of the creek for awhile but soon I heard that big dying bawl, caught in a livetrap locate!!! Got to her and finally found a way across creek and she had the coon. Called it a night and if storms get moved out will be back at it tonight!!
