Took 2 more youngsters last night. Both fresh out of high school. Being 32 it feels weird being called an old man by them young bucks lol! Seems like yesterday I was calling my 30 something uncles oldmen.

We hit our limit on one pasture pond and lefty PLENTY!

Yummy. Suggestion, make a slit and grab the catfish skinner pliers. It leaves you something to hold on to before you cut them off.

Posted by Kris Cisna on 06-19-2011 11:29 PM:

Thats how I was taught to skin frogs. I found it easier for me to chop the legs off all at once, then chop all the feet off at once and pull skin. I did all of these from pulling the first out of the bag to washing them up and putting them in the freezer in 23 minutes.

That includes washing my hands, truck bed, tools etc.

That's quick. I'll give that a try.

Posted by bigtimberkennel on 06-20-2011 12:41 AM:

You'll have some good eatin' for a while that's for sure, nice haul.

Posted by Kris Cisna on 06-20-2011 03:40 AM:

This is how I start... I run a 16 through them and tack them to a board. Then chop them at the waist. Run through all I have then start taking off the feet. Once all the feet are gone I get to skin pullin.

Like I said I was shown just how you told me. Heck the way I was shown to skin Squirells is alot different than how I do it now. For me the way I skin them now works out easier and faster.

I use a pair of snips for Squirell. I use them on the feet and head. I found that snip, snip, snip, snip slice and snip worked better for me.

I'd like more pics. Why do you tack them down to cut the hind legs off?

What kind of snake is that? Nice frog. Good eating. You mean that that sour mash is to feed racoons? I thought it had a higher purpose in life. hahha

Had some good scores saturday night. Awfully late night though 3: am . Austin's won registered with Carl. Poor Uncle Toby got picked on all night long by Austin. Toby and Ray remember this Wuff, Wuff Wuff Wuff and so on.

Just kidding Austin good job. Really tough competion in champion casts.

Take care Jeff

Categorized | NEWS AND EVENTS, PRO-FILESKerr Reservoir/Buggs Island Virginia produces a world record Blue catfish 143 lbs. Certification pending
Posted on 19 June 2011 by steve

On Saturday night Fathers day weekend a North Carolina man, Nick Anderson, a high school football coach from Geenville NC, caught a new world record blue cat in the John H. Kerr-Buggs Island Lake near Clarksville Va. (certification still pending) The fish weighed in at 143 pounds, 13 pounds over the previous record. During a weekend father and son fishing trip to John H. Kerr Lake, also known as Buggs Island Lake, Anderson landed a 143 pound blue cat, easily topping the previous record of 130 pounds caught from the Missouri River in July of last year by Greg Bernal of Florissant, Missouri

Anderson, said on Sunday that the record breaking fish was caught around the Goat Island area near Clarksville, Anderson did not give away his secret bait but said that the fish was caught using an “Ugly Stick” rod with a Shimano reel and 30 pound test line. It took Anderson, his father and brother, more than 45 minutes to wrestle the fish into their pontoon boat.

The fish was taken to Mecklenburg Farm Supply in Chase City, the only place in the area that had scales large enough to perform the official weigh in. The fish was certified at 143 pounds and was 57 inches long with a girth of 47 inches.

Nick Anderson, with help from his father Rick and brother Jeremmie Mullis show off the big one that didn’t get away.

The fish was caught about 8:00 pm and it took Andrews about 45 minutes to reel the fish in. Anderson says he’s still in shock and as you can imagine “my arms and back are still sore”

Seen little Larry today up at Champaign, he may be up there for awhile. Goin' to snoozeville--gotta get up early tomorrow. River looks like it's comin' up a little at fall downs place, the log aint as visible as it was.

When I skin squirells I cut the feet, tail and head off with metal snips. I cut up the rib cage to where the head was. That makes a slice from the private area all the way up. Then I just pull the skin off the arms and down. I can do a limit in about 6 min.

I love some squirell thinnin now!

Jeff I think they are common water snakes. We checked out the teeth looking for fangs as they had diamond shaped heads

Lyle I will get more pics soon as we get out again. I nail down the frog so it doesn't flop around. Nail it down stretch the legs and chop.

Snake

Yes I noticed that diamond shaped head, glad to hear not poisionous. Snakes is one of the few animals that I don't care for. Squirrel hunting is lots of fun and makes good gravy.

Rex and Tony picking on them poor fellows and they are not hear to defend themselves... Like they really could any how!! The are legends in their own right, not to much that bunch wouldn't try.

Latter Ashmore

Yeah them two were quite a pair, as onry as could be. I knew Tooty better than Munk-- sipped a FEW cold ones with Tooty in my younger days-- him and ( DRY BAG ) Gus Phipps.

That banded water snake has more meat on him than one big old frog , easier to skin too, but it tastes like chicken. The frogs, I normally grab by the hind legs and tap his head on the table like polishing off a coon on a tree. No need to tack then. LOL.

Posted by bigtimberkennel on 06-22-2011 09:24 AM:

10-4 on the prime coon weather. How come everything funky tastes like chicken? I had an 'ol boy from Tennesse tell me possum taste like chicken too.
