Jeff Murphy from Marshall Illinois has a real nice male Redbone named Stone. If I was wanting to breed a good red female it would be to Stone!

well sorry to hit a nerve but I'm not saying there ain't decent ones i just haven't hunted with one. most of the ones I've hunted with wouldn't go hunting and that is a big thing with me. I want a dog to go til they tree and not come back.

wow those are some pretty impressive numbers, thats between 260- 285 coon a yr or about 5.25 coon a week for a the dogs lifetime in a state where there are several months out of a yr where your hunting is very limited, including the fact that from 0-1 it was likely alot less. thats one hell of a coon dog especially for PA. you must have been wearing out some boots to do that. its too bad you never hit any of the big hunts with this hound, she sounds like a dandy, one that could have an should have helped the redbone breed

im curious did you ever get a chance to breed her? if so are any of her pups as good or even close? if so i may be in the market for 1.

Back in the Day lol..My Younger brother & I hunted in Clinton & Potter co. Pa.. Coons were bringing $20. to $50. on the hoof. Our furrier we sold them to was in Salladsbury Pa. We hunted frm Dark til Dawn this is how we made our living during the winter months up there in the hills. The biggest hunt she finished 3rd all red hunt Lexington NC Redbone Days. And also won Pa.State Ch.NtHunt. Her Daughter Maggie by Millers Valley Rocket won Pa. St treeing contest same day at 6mos old. Her papers burnt in a fire in 1987 have never been able to find her ukc no. to see what these pups did..

Really? You live in Harry O's back yard and Rod Bantle only lives a few miles away. I guess you never hunted with Rocky, Music, Doc, Rock, Stone, Yellow River Red, Lucky, Rebel, Molly?

My dad's very first Redbone, Red Hat Hollow Rusty. I was 7-8 yrs old ( 30 yrs ago) and if i remember correctly he was a Timber Chopper grandson. We treed a pile of coons with that old dog. We had one other that was real good named Hickory, super cold nosed, his only bad habit was that if he found a bear, he was gone. This was pre- tracking unit! He was out of Famous Amos. I was out of dogs for eight years, then i got back into them, but couldnt find what i was looking for in the redbone breed. Tried a couple different breeds, then my wife convinced me to try a Plott, had them for 18 yrs now and plan on having them another 40.

The one we own currently, he is just a grade dog of unknown history, we think he is prolly a 7 or 8 year old dog.
The family calls him Boone, I call him "Meat". When the tailgate drops, you better plan on having a coon, it's that simple. If he were a younger dog and registered I'd comp hunt the hell out of him. He's just too slow to compete. He will take an old cold feed track and work it out and have the meat, or hit a hot track and push it hard. He is the best dog I've ever owned.....period. Once in a blue moon he'll tree a possum, but it is a rare event. His voice is beginning to go, has a bawl on track, a beautiful locate and hard fast chop on the tree. In the last two months of hunting, the boys have went around 40 nights and he's only been shut out on two of those nights. Pup trainer deluxe, we're running a english pup and a blue pup with him right now. He is a hard, intense tree dog, nothing bothers him on the tree. I wish I would have owned more like him over the years, first red dog we've ever owned. A guy wanted us to price him last week, the dog isn't for sale. He is too good of pup trainer and too good of a young hunter trainer. He'll prolly get buried on the place. Let him out of his pen Tuesday night and cast him on out place,we left some standing milo by the creek and he had one treed in less than ten minutes, didn't even have to start the truck, just walked a half mile to the tree and sure enough had him, with the blue pup backing him. Would love to have another one like him.

Been hunting for 40 yrs. and never hunting with any red dogs that tripped my trigger! Most where slow and pokey, it just seemed like it took them to long to make things happen. I've heard about a few but never hunted with them.
