Lawrence, Kansas, December 12, 2008

A Kansas farm wife called the local phone company to report her telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few occasions, when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone rang.

The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this psychic dog or senile lady. He climbed a telephone pole, hooked in his test set, and dialed the subscriber's house.

The phone didn't ring right away, but then the dog moaned and the telephone began to ring.

Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found:

1 . The dog was tied to the telephone system's ground wire with a steel chain and collar.

2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.

3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number was called.

4.. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate.

5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to ring.

Which demonstrates that some problems CAN be fixed by
pissing and moaning.

Figure you all will se this before my other thread.
Has anyone ever ran the shock fencing whether it be underground or wireless. Thinking of getting it instead of spending alot of money on kennels. Any thoughts and ideas?
By the way my kennel I have planned to build will be around $1000.00 but will have elctric and water ran to it. Even some heat.
Thinking just give them the entire back yard, but do not want to fence it.

The underground wire will not work on hardheaded dogs. All the radio type I have seen ( my son has one on his lab ) controls a circle, you would have to put the transmitter in the middle of the yard.

Hey Everyone!

Great news you got your dog back Rob!
CONGRATS on GR Ch Link!
Great Pix everyone, COrky the pup looks great and John, that vehicle sure is better on gas than my Suburban for trailering! LOL...

Mum is HOME! My weekend with her was great. She is VERY weak and tiny and shaky but AWESOME! Her trip home was good but my sister and former bro. in law messed up on the organization of home care...and the college student staying with her tonight(who mum loves) was not told Mum was using a walker, is very weak, blind and on O2, that she would need to assist her to walk anywhere...like to the bathroom etc...DUH! All I have to say is OMgoodness... my sister Martha in Long Island was SO mad I'm sure you all heard her screaming! I'm sure mum will be fine...but I hope tomorrow they think about getting her 24 hr HOME HEALTH aide for a week to adjust! DUH! I will continue to stay there weekends.
It was GLORIOUS out today! I wandered a bit. In the 60s. Supposed to be warmer tomorrow. The birdies and flowers are popping up all over.
This is my favorite time of year! I LOVE SPRING!
Thanks again for all the Prayers! My Mum has asked me to let you all know she is Thankful and that they have worked well!
HAPPYHUNTING!!! Heather

PS...

...

I have also heard that the elec. fences don't work with coonhounds that have ANY prey drive! I KNOW they do not work for greyhounds... they just learn to run fast and then they NEVER come home....

Daisy had one... and even though she has a STRONG prey drive... she is a dog...not a hound(she is some sort of treeing cur).... it worked for her pretty well.

Strong, TALL feinces make good neighbors! lol...

Thanks Bluegal, she is doing AWESOME! all things considered

Shannon, good luck on that BIRD!

I agree about outdoor wireless fencing. I have two labs here. Hard headed dogs go right through it. It will not keep other dogs out.

Great pics, Corky.

The radio controlled fence works on sons lab, once he reaches outside of set circle, it dont stop correcting ( that sounded real animal rights friendly, didnt it) till he gets back inside safe area. Son's girlfriend has a fenced in back yard. It is just a 4ft chainlink yard fence and tucker can jump it. Jamie had it set where tucker could run the whole backyard. Of course this made the circle go outside the fence in places. Tucker figured out where he could get up to the fence, backed up and jumped the fence. Just as he cleared the fence in mid air, it started correcting. Jamie said you aint ever seen a dog turn around in mid air so quick.

Like Rob said, dont keep other dogs out.

One of mine now is on a cable run. The female in a 10*10 lot.
The kennells I want to build three 10 by 12 runs with a storage building with the feeding and the houses inside the building. Also elevated floor also will have to run power and water to it.
I told my wife that if I built it I want it to last and be built right.
Just trying to give them more room to run so thinking of still keeping them up at nights and just letting them out during the day. Looking to save some money.
Thanks for all the input
