HUNT

I haven't been able to get on here for a couple of days.
We hunted for a while Wednesday night. We cut Goose, Dolly, Vapor and my cousins English dog. Dogs struck a sorry track and Dolly and Vapor worked to the left towards the creek. Goose made a hard turn and crossed the creek and struck deep in the bottom. Vapor loaded up treed and Dolly backed him and we made our way to the tree. They were treed in a huge tree in the edge of a beaver pond. We could not find the coon but he could have been there. Goose was now deep and we decided to drive around. He was coming up a slough run and headed towards a paved road. I decided to walk in and catch him up and we called it a night.
Drake and Ryan hunted Dolly and NtCh Blue Rock Tuesday night. They looked good and treed a coon. Rock treed really good and his energy levels are starting to get a lot better. I am treating him for Ehrlicia and hopefully can get him back to 100%. I had the stomach virus yesterday and last night. I am still trying to get over it. We will be going to Hubbertville Saturday night to a UKC hunt and see what we can get done. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

Hunt

We hunted in a UKC hunt last night in the rain. I hunted Goose and Ryan hunted Dolly. First drop Goose left hard and other dogs didn’t seem to want to hunt well as they were checking in pretty regular. I barely heard Goose open at about 500 yds and I struck him. We tightened up and I could hear him hammering a tree. I treed him and shut out other dogs. We got to the tree and an English gyp came in to his tree when we got there. He had the meat. We caught up all dogs and recut. All dogs hunted better and Goose and English gyp got close to the road. We called timeout and caught all dogs. Last drop Goose left the country on me. Black dog and English gyp tree but is slick. Hunt is over and I find Goose .81 treed with a coon again. I ended up with 225+. Dolly came in with 225+ and had a circle tree so she got 1st and Goose got 2nd. Other cast had 200+ I think. Need one more cast win on Goose to NtCh. Y’all keep’em lookin up!!

You guys hard hunting is paying off and showing that’s what it takes to make a coondog. Good luck the rest of the way finishing them.

We have been hunting hard. I plan on making a few crosses on Goose when I finish him. If you need some motor added to what you are hunting, he can sure help!!

HUNT

Drake, Ryan and I hunted for a little while last night. I didn't get to hunt Monday night due to thunderstorms in our area all night. First drop we cut Goose. Drake's dog Rooster, and Ryans pup Spanky. Dogs left out hard but spanky soon checked back in to the truck. Ryan led him back out and scolded him and he went back hunting. Goose struck at 475yds and was bumping and drifting out on a track. Rooster was opening here and there. I heard Goose load up treed at 600yds and roll over into that hard chop. He was lighting up the swamp bottom. We made our way to him and all the dogs were there. Rooster and the pup acted like they could not even smell a coon. Goose was up a large oak tree. I finally found a coon laid up in a fork. I was going to roll this one out to Goose and I hit him and he moved up the tree. I hit him again and he fell but got lodged in a fork. I could never get him to fall out. That makes me mad and sick when it happens. We finally moved to a swamp bottom and cut Vapor, Dolly, and Rooster. Dolly struck and Vapor soon opened left of her. They started a track and moved into the bottom. Rooster soon opened with them. The bottom was flooded out pretty good and the dogs started struggling to move the track. Vapor hushed and skipped out and started opening pretty good again. It was getting late so Ryan and Drake caught Dolly and Rooster. I drove around and Vapor was in a lot of water. I ended up walking in and catching him. It was 12:00 so we called it a night. I will hit it tonight. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

Coon tracks are like hens teeth around our hunting spots lately. Ryan and I decided to hunt dogs alone one at a time last night. First drop we cut NtCh Blue Rock loose in a small creek bottom. Rock hunted out good and seemed to have good energy. The Doxycycline and also a shot of oxytetracycline have him looking and feeling better from the ehrlicia. Rock struck at 450yds and cut across the bottom. He hit a creek and trailed back towards us and soon treed at about 300yds. He was up 2 trees growing together in a swamp hole but we couldn't find his coon. I think he just missed it. 2nd drop we cut Dolly in a small creek bottom. She struck a track at about 200yds but it wasn't a good track. She worked the the track down the bottom and crossed a small creek. She cut across the bottom and located and treed. She was up a huge den in the edge of a cutover. Last drop we cut Goose up a creek bottom. The moon sure was bright and I told Ryan we would probably get to stretch our legs on this drop. This area gets hunted regular. Goose left hard and cut across the bottom and hit the creek. He turned up the creek and was steadily covering ground. I soon heard him open at 900yds. Goose was skipping out and opening here and there. I finally had to drive around to try to get closer. I got within 575yds of him and got out of the truck and he was treed in some rough stuff. He was 1.20 miles from where I cut him. We made our way thru the cutover and pine thicket and finally came out into a small bottom with some nice timber. Goose was treed up a big leaning tree that ran into several big trees including 2 big bay trees. We couldn't find his coon but I know he had the meat. We called it a night as it was about 11:50 and I still had to feed some of the dogs. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

NtCh PR Southern Blue S&H’s Goose

Finished Goose out to NtCh last night. We won second place. 3 registered casts went out. He jammed a coon in company last night and had first tree with the meat. Then he got deep and alone with a coon at end of hunt. Working towards show ch and GrNtCh now.

Dolly

Ryan went over to Lawley and won his cast in first round of a double header. She placed 2nd overall. Just got word he is headed out on second cast. That gives her 3 wins and hopefully she and Ryan can pull out another cast win in late round.

Goose and I won 5 out of 7 casts to finish to NtCh. He has been consistently deep and alone under a coon. We are going to start working towards GrNtCh and show Ch. I have been working with him on the bench and he has excellent feet and conformation. I plan to hit a couple of RQE and try to get him qualified. I have plans to breed him to our Dolly female. Ryan got another win on her Saturday night so she has 3 wins toward NtCh. I also PKC registered both dogs and I plan to hit a few PKC hunts with Goose as well.

HUNT

Drake , Ryan and I hunted for a while last night. the ole moon was shining bright and it wasn't a great night. First drop we cut Rock, Dolly, Goose and Rooster. We had a scorecard and was letting Ryan and Drake practice in a competition atmosphere. Rock struck followed by Dolly and they got deep pretty quick. Dogs blew up on a tree and hammered it pretty good. Goose had went left and was steady moving. Dogs were on a huge den tree. We cut them off the tree and Rock struck again and Dolly and Rooster soon opened. They went about 350yds and treed. They were up some hedges that ran into a big tree. We didn't see the coon. Goose was close to the road and Ryan caught him up. We moved and recut in the hills. Goose went hard right and was covering ground. Rock and Dolly went across the hollow and Rooster soon joined them. Goose struck deep and soon treed. Rock and Dolly went to him and we drove around. We got out to the truck and there was a strange dog treeing with them. A walker dog had came into Goose's tree. They were already at the tree and were shining the tree. We didn't look much as no one is supposed to be hunting in the area. We had a friendly exchange and moved on our way. We will hit it again tonight and see what we can get done!! Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

I hunted by myself last night for a while. First drop I cut Vapor alone down a creek bottom. He left out hard and hunted out good. He went completely thru the section and crossed out on a power line. He crossed the powerline into a rough swamp bottom and worked his way thru the swamp bottom. I caught him coming up the creek to the road at .68 from where I cut him. He never got struck. Next drop I knew I was probably going to find some new territory with Goose since coons didn't seem to be stirring. I cut Goose in a rough creek bottom but it didn't slow him down. He hunted up the bottom and soon hit some hardwood hills. He was getting deep and I moved up the road to try to get closer. I walked up an old hunting road and heard him working a cold track and drifting out. He soon was almost out of hearing so I had to walk out and move around again. I got out of the truck and he was locating and rolled over treed. He was 1.13 from where I cut him. He was 600yds from where I was parked so I lit out to him. He was treed in a big hollow that had some nice hardwood. I looked for a while and I finally grabbed a vine on the tree and jerked on it. The coon looked and ran up the tree. I was going to roll this one out to Goose but I looked and looked and never seen him again. I petted ole Goose on the head and made my way to the truck.
Ryan and Drake had went and were hunting in the area. I heard Dolly and Rooster treed so I drove down to see what they had done. They had gotten struck and Dolly went left and crossed into a big cutover and treed in a log jam. Rooster had shot straight in the bottom and loaded up treed by himself. He had the meat and Drake rolled it out to him. He hasn't been hunted much til we got him and he has some qualities that I like. He is naturally independent and has a good motor. He just needs woods time and correction. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

Weather

I didn't get to hunt last night. I had plans to hit a PKC hunt at our local club but we had thunderstorms move in with torrential rains and high winds. No one showed at the club to hunt. I plan to hit a UKC hunt and show this weekend and see what Goose and I can get done. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up and good luck to all bluetickers this weekend.

HUNT

Drake and Ryan hunted for a while Friday night. I didn't get to go but got a hunt report that Rooster treed a possum and a coon alone. Ryan just hunted his pup and he hasn't gotten started yet. Rooster seems like he is going to make a nice dog.

Saturday night Ryan and I drove down to Chelsea and hunted in a UKC hunt and show. Not much participation in the show. Ryan won best of show female with Dolly and I won best of show male with Goose. We hunted in the hunt and it was a 1 hour hunt. With the way Goose operates I was skeptical about hunting him in the 1 hour hunt. There was 1 NtCh cast and I drew a walker male and a black and tan female. We cut loose in a bottom and the walker struck pretty quick. He stayed in one area for most of the hunt. He treed and left drawing 125 - and then treed in the ground. We headed in to get closer to him and he quit. Goose had gotten deep but had not gotten struck and the black and tan gyp had not said a word either. Goose was .65 and we walked up to a field to get closer. The walker male and the gyp came out to us and sort of just hung around. Goose opened deep and the guide said he was in a rough area in a beaver pond. I looked at my watch and there was only 8 minutes left in the hunt. Goose was skipping out pretty good and I sure was hoping he would get the coon treed before hunt time was up but it didn't happen. As soon as hunt was up, I lit out to catch him up. He was in a rough swamp area with a lot of hedges but also some large timber. I got close to him and called him to me. If I would have had a little more time, he would have got him treed but that is how it goes. We had a dead cast but I was happy Goose blowed out of there and gave us a chance when the other two were just messing around the edge of the field. Ryan hunted Dolly and drew minus early in the hunt. She got deep and ended up treeing a coon on the guides feeder but the guides dog backed her and had no minus and won the cast. It sure didn't work out for us this weekend but can't win sitting on the couch. I will be headed to a hunt and show Saturday and hopefully get on some coons. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!

HUNT

Drake, Ryan, and I hunted last night. It wasn't a great night. First drop we cut Goose , Dolly, and Rooster into a creek bottom. Dolly struck quick followed by Rooster. They worked a track to our left with Goose going deeper into the bottom. Dolly soon loaded up followed by Rooster. We got to the tree and it was a decent sized poplar tree. We shined for quite awhile but never seen the coon. He could have been there and didn't look but we didn't see him. Goose opened at about 300yds and we cut to him. He wasn't on a very good track but was skipping out. He got to the creek and crossed several times back and forth going up the creek. Dolly and Rooster were doing the same. Rooster and Dolly located on a couple of trees but didn't stick. Goose was getting close to the paved road and this track sure wasn't getting any better and we decided to catch them up and regroup. We moved and cut Rock and Rooster in a swamp bottom. Rock struck a sorry track and started working it up the bottom. He worked the track about 300yds and Rooster opened to the right and moved out pretty quick. Rooster located and treed and Rock was headed his way. We started to Rooster and Rock was there according to my Garmin but wasn't barking. We got almost there and Rock started opening. I could see Rooster treeing in the ground and an Armadillo came running out of the hole with Rock chasing close behind. His path got impeded by a size 9 Dans Frogger boot to the chin. I gave ole Rock a pretty good tail whipping and Drake did the same for Rooster. Rooster came from Indiana and Rock from Missouri so I don't think they have seen many of these possums on a half shell. Hopefully we got their attention last night. We are covered up with Armadillos around our hunting area. We will cut them loose tonight and see what we can get done. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!

I found Goose's coon but kept losing him in the leaves. I finally got a decent shot at him and rolled him out to Goose. Goose bout let the ole coon whip him but finally got him killed. Rooster had come in to the tree and we leashed him back. Next drop we cut Dolly and Vapor in another creek bottom. Dolly struck and Vapor opened with her but wasn't opening much. It didn't seem like a good track. They trailed 700yds up the creek and took a right hand turn up in the hills. The hill are pretty much cutover and pine thickets. We pulled around and walked up an old hunting road and finally decided to just catch up the dogs as they were really struggling with the track and were on some land that we don't have permission to be hunting. We called it a night and will hit it again. Y'all Keep'em lookin' Up!!

Showed Goose at Tuscaloosa County club. Showed against 4 dogs and won best of show male. Needs 5 points to show champion. Getting ready for the hunt.

Well me and Goose were on another dead cast. We did have a chance but treed alone on a big den that ran up into a large cottonwood. Couldn’t get him to look. We drew 125- on a blown over tree that crossed a large creek. Goose located and is usually a one bark treedog but moved on up the creek. Hopefully coons will start moving better. We will hit it again.
