We missed a couple weekends of hunting due to work and such. Got to go this weekend. We've been hunting early in the morning and in the evenings to escape the heat. Got one up a tree on an evening hunt after a good rain, so it was fairly cool. One more weekend before our pursuit season is over.

We had a new litter of Idaho Lightfoot bred pups born up north in Alberta. Our good friend Brent Nordholt who owns Robin, a littermate female to Gambler, Throttle, Rose, etc. Decided he would like to raise a litter out of her. Brent talked to Brian and I about what we thought of the idea and asked for our advice on what would be the best way to go with breeding her. He liked what he has seen from the Lightfoot X Luke crosses we have made, and was hoping to be able to get something similar to those. Well that idea fit right in with the direction we have been going. The next decision to make was whether to breed to Smoke, or one of the nice males we have out of him, Storm, Chrome, or Doc. Brian has been very pleased with how Storm has performed on bears and cats. Plus he has some extra bells and whistles in the looks and mouth department. I pretty much feel the same way about Chrome, and he also has some extra looks and the beautiful mouth that most of Smoke’s pups have. So there really wasn’t a bad choice, but after talking it over we decided to breed her to Smoke. We are excited to see how this cross turns out and feel confident it will produce more of what has been working so well for us with the last few crosses.

This litter, like most of our others, are even more linebred than they appear if you go back a few more generations in the pedigree. They go back to many of the important Lightfoot hounds from earlier years, like Rocky Run Blue Terry 4 times, Lightfoot Mr. Blue Bird 8 times, and Clark's Lightfoot Bruno 25 times. We have raised, bred, and hunted several generations ourselves of these hounds that carry the Idaho Lightfoot name. They also carry a double shot of Harmon's Ink through Gibson's Sunset Luke which we feel has been a great addition to help us get the type of hounds we want. This cross is another example of good friends working together with the common goal of trying to produce the best hounds we can.

Thanks for the kind words guys

We have had a lot of fun with these hounds over the years and have made a lot of good friends. We aren't to worried about trying to sell a bunch of pups or convincing everyone they should have one of our hounds. At the same time we are proud of what we have, and enjoy getting some of them in the hands of people who will appreciate them and like to hunt the same type of hounds that we do.

Hey John,

I sure do like how Blue Bell looks. She is a nice looking hound. Her brother Cherokee is doing good and I know we are enjoying him. He has turned out to be a nice hound too. Hoping to breed him back to a female we have next year. I would still like to talk to you about Blue Bell and Baby but he is in KY right now working on his UKC/ACHA titles. Call us sometime if you are up our way so we can go hunting. We have over 6500 acres to coon hunt.
