Bert Oney, is a great dog man, best at getting pups started. Whats even better he is i believe 87 and was working pups this morning with his grandson Scott, he has helped alot of people around here work dogs that he did not even have any vested interest in, just does it cause he enjoys it.

About everyone I grew up hunting with was good in their own way most always had some guy with more money then brains pay big money for one of their dogs or pay them to train one for them some of the people I hunt with now want to be like them and are jealouse because I was ones little brother and like a brother to the rest and get pissed when I take a cull off their yard and make a dog out of it but I wouldn't call me the best

Great thread!

I can think of three guys that have really influenced what I do with a dog. This is in no particular order but the first one would be Jerrod Douglas. He showed me what it was to comp. hunt and what kind of dog it takes. Mr. Dennis Porter would be another dogman I have a lot of respect for. I don't think I know of a better man at starting a dog. Lastly, Dan Brady at Red Oak Kennels, we spent a lot of time in the woods pleasure hunting. He showed me how a coondog is suppose to handle and how to correct a lot of problems. To all these guys I owe my love of coonhunting and my passion for chasing after a dog.

Buddy Satterfield he is an old man who can tell me a lot ab coonhounds family life and a whole lot ab scripture one of the true good ole timers left. I try to go with him every chance I get even though sometimes he says stuff u really don't want to hear ..... But always true .

I hunted a lot with Zeke, I learned a lot from him!
Zeke won a lot back in the early and Mid 60's.
He won the 1966 U.S. National Championship in Romulus Mi. with a Black an Tan named Roll, it was the high lite of his life.....
The next year Berton Oney won the hunt with Vanzant's Sam.
Zeke loved this sport as much as anyman that has ever lived, he talked about Dave Dean, and his Hammer dogs,Lavern Miller and Cleo Alford,Jarvis Umphers,and a bunch more names and dogs.
Just about every time I go to the woods, I think of Ol' ZEKE, and wish that he was here and could hunt with some of the dogs I have been lucky enough to have owned and followed through the years after I have been hunting and trying to train 1 as good as Ol'Roll....

My dad Gary Cummings...started taking me to the woods @ 2 yrs old...Dad can tell you every move a dog is making & how to correct a dog when needed . Dad's older brother Don Cummings & uncles Charlie Cummings & Jap Bennett also great old fashoined coon hunters who new dogs & loved hunting & took the time to instill this in my brothers & I . I don't know if he realized @ the time how much hunting and these dogs would become a part of my life. Coon hunting is a family tradition passed down through the generations in our family .
I can't wait until Kash my one yr old grandson is big enough to go the woods with us ...he loves sitting in the truck listening to the dogs with his nana!
