ol frito picked up another win on friday. way to go rick... i got to go hunting with rick and frito on saturday.. we had a pkc hunt sched. at our club and the weather was real bad .. we had to cancel the hunt ... rick and i hung around the club house for awile and afteer midnight the storms past so we went for a hunt. coons werenot moving real good but we managed to tree a couple .. ol frito looked good and worked real hard for everything.. was not a good pup training night... thanks for the hunt rick .. i realy enjoy getting to hunt with you and frito . we just need to do it more often...

More photos of Frito's pups with a coon looking down. These pups handle nice and are whistle trained to come on command. Treeing came easy for them and now we just need to work on hunting and trailing. Neither one is the least afraid of the dark or getting their face full of fur.

Frito did a nice job on a couple of coons treed last night. The first track he drove fast up into the hills almost .6 mile before coming treed under a coon. The second track ended with a coon in the tree below. After getting him off this tree I noticed he cut open his ankle on the fence. Today he's at the vet to suture the wound. He has to sit for about two weeks healing.

I cut Super Charlie alone. He disappears into the woods and a few minutes later he lets out a series of roaring squall bawls while going over a far hill, followed by a nice locate and continuous tree barks. I hoof it in there fast before the coyotes get him and find him treed solid with the meat. I look down at the Garmin and we're 993 yards from where I sent him to the woods. This is deja vu all over in comparison to hunting with his dad as a pup.

Neither of these boys have ever been in the woods with another dog and maybe they don't need it.

Frito's accuracy is holding very well this year at slightly less than 85%. That's 85% of his trees I looked up had a coon looking back down. Dens, slicks, big leafy trees all count against his percent if no coon is seen. It always slips a little in late summer when the acorns are ripe and then bounces back through the rest of the year. Last year he ended the year at 76% using the same rules for determining accuracy.

I put him in the woods once last night and he got behind another running coon. Frito struck about 450 yards back in the woods and it sounded like a medium track. A few minutes later he was running hard after the coon on a red hot track that took him around/through a swampy area and then up the ridge through the thick, thick hazel nut brush. He ran it in a half circle past me and back toward the road, then along the ditch for a couple hundred yards and then back into the woods and treed a little less than 150 feet from where I parked the vehicle. This morning I measured the area where Frito trailed the coon using Google Earth and estimate the chase covered roughly 3,000 feet.

I never tire of hunting with Frito.

Rick i like your storys on your posts, its make me feel like im readin an old coonhuntin book like, where the red fern grows, glad to see that sloops pups are comeing along nicely, would definitely be interested if i could get some hunting ground up here and some kennels set up. take care and lookin forward to more frito storys. Thanks for the info Rick, she's not marked as nice as Frito but she's built like her Dam(Lot of white and ticks on her). Gotta nice note on her too. I bought her from a friend who's getting into Cur's...he said she's all COONDOG. I'm hoping to breed her as soon as she comes in heat....not sure what would cross with her though.
