I've hunted with three red dogs that I liked real well when I saw them go--all females!

NtCh Knights SST Rosie owned by Richard Thomas of MO
NtCh Faith Ann--Tyson/Tyler Lansguard ??I think ? from Iowa
Dual Grand Pony Creek Sadie owned by Gary Miller of MO.

All nice dogs no matter what color you like!

somehow i believe this statment is a complete an utter lie. you may ask why? well i've never been in a hunt where i have voted to minus my dog on a tree an been out voted by the rest of the cast to circle it. i have a feeling you have never hunted or owned a winning dog period.

but to the point of the post i will agree with some others on this post, steve nodean, shane marcys(?) tom soderburg(?) all have had some pretty nice redbones but i think the best reddogs i have ever hunted with were owned by joe maitland.

one other thing and maybe the most importent of them all is all 4 of these men are some of the most stand up houndsmen i know and i would be more then happy to draw out with any or all of them everytime i went to a hunt

Faith Ann and Death Row Joe are the best 2 I have seen go. Both would make a man loose a lot of weight putting one the miles behind them. Better have had a good tracker.

I have said it once and i will say it again...GRCH GRNITECH 'PR' KROOKED KREEK JUNIOR...seen him tree a heap of coon...the last two hunts he put him in he brought in 375 plus...this year at a RQE and the winter classic...and was the only dog to end up under a coon in both casts...these two wins also finshed him to grand...

Ive hunted with several good red dogs, even got to snap my lead on a couple and was proud of it.
Tex
Bo
Banjo3
Kate
Quad
Harry
LilRed
These are a few that come to mind I liked. Harry at 13 mnths old was as nice a young dog as ive ever been to the woods with.

The color of the dog really has no bearing on its ability. Even if you have an unlimited dollar amount to spend on a dog and dont care what color it is, finding a special one is still like finding a needle in a haystack.

Best Redbone I remember hunting with was a hound called Smokey Mountain Brandy. He had an exceptional cold nose, that could flat fly with a cold track. those flat plowed fields in central Ohio didn't seem to slow him down much when taking a cold feeder track across one of them and into the next patch of timber. He didn't seem to have razor fast speed on a hot track, but may have been one of the fastest cold trailing hound i ever saw. He seemed just as fast to me on a cold track as he did a hot one.

I liked what I saw in him the one night I got to hunt with him.

There are not a ton of redbones hunted in my area. The only one ive ever been out with that I would consider as being a world class coondog was Nighty night moonlight kate. She would please anyone hunting any breed. I was only fortunate enough to hunt with her one night but she looked real good that night. Id like to think im pretty hard to impress but she really left an impression on me. Coondog that could get the job done in style.
I drew Dan Biggert and GR.NT.CH. NIGHTY NIGHT MOONLIGHT KATE at a RQE in ohio one night. I was hunting my GR.NT.CH. SWAMP BUSTIN ROCK dog. The first time we turned them loose Kate struck to the left and Rock struck to the right at the same time they were both driving their track and crossed each other making a perfect X then both treed at the same time one to the left one to the right. This was almost exactly 100 yards apart at the bottom of the X and at the top of the X. This took about 2 minutes or less. Being the tree dogs that KATE and ROCK are it was pretty impressive to say the least. Yes they both had there coon too. Kate was without a doubt the best redbone i ever hunted with and one classy little tree dog to say the least. And let me say this she don't need no bragging from anyone, she flat out one the purina race, she placed in the top 20 of the ukc word championship more than once! If you never hunted with a redbone that you liked you obviously never hunted with GR.NT.CH. NIGHTY NIGHT KATE!!!

chad cartwights oz dog is the most consistant red dog i've hunted with, he's nice

I've yet to hunt with one that I would call exceptional hunted with a few that could tree coon but not one that made me go WOW!

A couple of months ago my 11 yr old and I watched Where the Red Fern Grows, she decided she wanted to get a redbone, something different is how she justified it. I said no assuming that I'll have to keep this one no matter what and would end up keeping a cull for the next 10yrs. We settled on a B&T!

CHRIS S.

YOU NEEDED TO CALL THE REDBONE CONSULTENT, JUMPIN WAYNE STODDARD. I THINK YOU SHOULD NAME THE BLACK DOG SMOKEY LINK. <v>

Wayne did have one worth hunting Cheif would tree a coon, but that son of a gun got to be mean as a snake. If I remember right he was off of Hennings Red Cheif, from Bob Hennings in IA.

I remember Wayne "Frisky" Stoddard would say "he aint mean he just don't like walkers".

If this one wasn't a female I thought about naming her Link, but as far as my daughter is concerned its her dog. I couldn't bear the thought of her running around saying here Smokey Link here Smokey Link knowing what it really meant! LOL!
