It was quoted earlier in this thread that Ohio State "backed in". I said if Ohio State backed in, LSU jumping from 7th to 2nd in the BCS in one week must have backed in too. Is OU a tough football team? Sure they are. They stumbled a couple of times. As for the reasons that they stumbled, they are just excuses. I never once brought up the Illinois first touchdown that was actually fumble recovered by Ohio State in their only loss. I didn't bring up the interception that the refs didn't call. They got beat. Shouldn't have been that close anyway.

There isn't a playoff system. There won't be for years, if ever.

Bradford, the starting QB was injured during the first series of downs and did not play the remainder of the game. That is not like a bad call or a fumble. Did you not read the post? OU defeated #1 ranked Missouri to win the Big 12 championship. Did OSU have to play in a Conference Championship game? Maybe the powerhouse OSU team will meet OU next year and this will no longer be a philisophical or statistical debate. Good Hunting, Robert

Ghost writer , The Woodmaster

Reddog, OU won their last two games of the season in dominating fashion. LSU lost the week before the SEC championship game. They lost at home as well. They barely survived the last half of their schedule. How many overtimes in how many games? Yes, LSU backed in as well. Ohio State lost AT HOME to Illinois and had the advantage of playing in a WEAK conference this year. It will happen next year as well and I look forward to the mighty SOONERS "spanking" Ohio St next year. If OSU is fortunate enough to navigate through their cupcake schedule.

Posted by reddogg68 on 12-19-2007 02:11 PM:

OU

Was Missouri a legitamate number 1 team ?No way.As for weak conferences what has the Big 12 that the other ones have not?Nothing.A loss is a loss so dont make excuses there is no asterisk by the losses denoting reasons why.

Yes, I read the post. I told you that you were making excuses. You still are. They lost. Get over it.

As for an actual championship game,,,, it's kind of hard to play one when your conference doesn't have one.

As for tOSU's "cake walk" 2008 schedule, it would include playing USC @ USC. When is the last time the SPooners took an OCC game like that? A little tougher game than North Texas or Utah State.

B10 vs SEC

Here is some info I found interesting. The NFL has 264 SEC players from 12 teams and the B10 has 236 from 11 that is 22 per team and 21.5.Since 1998 head to head SEC 17 B10 16.When SEC was home SEC 4 B10 0.When B10 was home B10 3-SEC 2 .In bowl games B10 13 SEC 11.When B10 was higher ranked they were 6-6 When the SEC was higher ranked B10 was 5-4.Really this is closer than most people think.Good Luck to both teams and fans have a safe trip.

No excuses, just stating a fact. No championship game in your conference? All the more reason for a playoff. Missouri not a legitimate #1 team and you think OSU is?

reddog , interesting stats.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you both. May all your trees be plus.

The AP poll:
Ohio State, 50 first place votes
LSU, 11
OU, 1
UGA, 1

USA today poll:
Ohio State, 46 first place votes
LSU, 11
OU, 1
Hawaii, 1

BSC, Ohio State #1
ESPNU fan poll, Ohio State #1

I would say that the great minds in the sports world say that Ohio State is a legit #1. Who am I to disagree!

Posted by Robert Starke on 01-01-2008 04:41 AM:

OSU

Those same "great minds" voted for USC # 1 earlier this year. Some of those "great minds" stated USC was in a class by themselves. No college team had a chance to beat them. What happened?

Oklahoma State 49 Indiana 33

#1

If Missouri was legit #1 they would be playing in a BCS bowl game with 2 losses but they are not they are not even a top 10 team.OSU and LSU are deserving OSU has a 3-1 record in BCS games and LSU has fared well themselves.Everyone else has had their chance but blew it.

Missouri was ranked # 6 in the poll I saw, which doesn't mean much, but it does to the "great minds". To respond to your erroneous statement, they ranked Missouri #6. Even in rural Missouri, we know that means Top 10. You should ponder your footnote and take heed.

Happy New Year!

Posted by reddogg68 on 01-01-2008 02:07 PM:

ranking

There are teams with a lower ranking with at large bids.Missouri is not 1 of the 10 best teams.Sometimes the record dictates rankings more than the ability of the teams.Missouri blew their chance get over it.

The teams they have beaten would have a hard time scoring 17 points against AIR.

How did the unranked, slow, Big Ten team fair against all that SEC speed today?

Look what happened to the Gators. Gee that can't beat a team that got beat by App ST. Whats that tell ya?

What it tells me is that Florida just made NCAA history. No team after winning a National Championship has ever lost four games the following year,,, until now.

Posted by reddogg68 on 01-01-2008 11:00 PM:

wow

Michigan pretty well did what they wanted today.Mental errors kept the game close. How did an unranked slow team with 4 TOs beat a blazing fast far superior highly ranked SEC team?

Wow, last year's National Championship Team lost to an Unranked Big Ten team that was beaten by Appalachian State!

Missouri lost to a great football team twice, Oklahoma. I don't have anything to get over. I am an Oklahoma fan. As "one great mind" said today, " Oklahoma is one of the two best football teams." The other team mentioned was not OSU. You get over it.
Your last post accurately reflects OSU's status. At large, picked for television ratings, overrated, and definitely not the best college football team. I can only hope the Sooners meet the "mighty" buckeyes next year. You will have to "get over it." The great mind was Lou Holz, if you must know. You twist stats nad ratings to fit your purpose. Bring on that weak sister,OSU.

Missouri 38 Arkansas 7

OSU

OSU was not an at-large BCS team.Maybe theyll win maybe they wont but they took care of their business except for 1 week through the season and if not for a blown call on a fumble may have that week also but truthfully didnt deserve to win that game.Oklahoma has lost 3 straight BCS games.I have nothing to get over but I would like to know what stats ive twisted.

if mizzou wasnt a legit #1, why were they able to destroy a arkansas team that gave LSU their second loss of the season?

osu and lsu, the 2 least deserving natl title team combo in BCS history, maybe alltime.

That Arkansas team in spite of beating LSU was very weak by their standards and a huge disapointment I mean come on when your running back plays alot of QB your in trouble.

LOL, I'd say you got lucky, but that would be stating the obvious. The little 10 has greatly benifited from the bowls decision to seed the SEC against stronger opponents to make the bowls competitive. They used to match them pretty close 2vs3 etc. Now they make sure the SEC is at least 2-3 spots below the opponent to "make it competitive" since the 15-1 or so run the SEC had in bowls in the 90's. Florida was the SEC 5th place team.

That's FIFTH PLACE boys and Mechicken was what 3rd?

The SEC played up in every bowl game this year with the exception of whisky which Tennessee was 2nd in the SEC and Whisky 4th. The only other "equal" match is the LSU/tOSU matchup.

By the way, just what is the record of the little 10 in bowls this year? I didn't think you would want to remember that one and you got one "win" against a very crappy CMU that was actually a rematch.

What's the SEC bowl record this year? Oh that's right it's 6-2.

It's soon to be 7-2.

As usual the little 10 is exposed as a very over rated, slow, weak conference.

As I said before tOSU does stand a chance becasue LSU is a West team and they don't have the typical speed of an East team. What's tOSU's record against the SEC in bowls? They have played all East teams. They might luck up in this next one, but don't hold your breath.

Truthfully they should just award the Sears Trophy when they award the SEC Championship trophy, the SEC is just that **** good.
