HUNT

I hunted by myself Friday night. First drop I cut Vapor alone in a swamp bottom. He struck in at about 300yds and started a track. It was about the same as all the tracks I get after here the past couple of weeks and not a good track. He did a good job of working the track for about 450yds but he had gotten down the bottom and it is swimming water for the most part. He was really struggling in all the water. Beavers have the creek dammed up and all this rain to boot has that area a mess. I walked in and picked my way around and caught him up. Next drop I cut Flip loose and he was winding as I cut him. He struck immediately and left out. He circled in the bottom and crossed a big field. I saw a big doe cross and soon here came Flip. He ran that doe for about an hour and a half. She never really left the country but would circle back into the same area. I finally got close enough to walk in and catch him and stripe his hide. Tritronics and myself have a little work to do this week. Last drop I cut Goose and Cotton in a different bottom. Goose went left and crossed the road and blew thru a big section and never struck. I caught him up and drove around to Cotton as she had went thru another section and never struck. It was sleeting and raining on me and I called it a night. Going to hit it tonight. My Jewel female had 5 pups as of yesterday evening. She wasn't done and I will check on her today to see how many pups she has now. I picked up my pup out of Floyd and Steve Wilson's Emma Saturday and he is a classy looking pup. Ya'll Keep'em Lookin' Up!

HUNT

I hunted by myself last night. First drop I pulled up in a field and 4 deer were standing there looking at me. Flip ran a deer for about an hour and a half Friday night before I could cut him off. A dog was barking in the box and it was ole Flip. I strapped him up with the tritronics and his tracker and cut him across the field. He immediately struck and I let him get wound up good before I toned him and of course it didn't affect him but when I hit him on 4 he decided that it wasn't much fun. He just sat down where I had shocked him. I walked in to him and he had a funny look in his eyes and was glad to see me. I walked him down to the corner of the bottom and cut him again. He left out and hunted good. I moved up the bottom and cut Vapor and Flo on a feeder. Flo hunted out good and I heard her open once on the creek but crossed it and hushed. They never struck on the feeder and Vapor struck in at about 500yds. Flip was now about 700yds the other direction and I heard him open and start trailing. Vapor ended up trailing across a cow pasture and I had to catch him off the track coming up a ditch towards the paved road. I loaded vapor and Flo in the box and I could hear Flip treed deep. I drove down and walked 600yds to him. He was up a large leaning tree and I found his coon. I petted him up good and made my way to the truck. Goose was in the box but it was getting late so I didn't get to cut him loose. I will hunt him tonight if this rain lets up. I was planning to hunt on Trent Widner's place since deer season is over but didn't get to make it over there last night. Hunting these young dogs can be rewarding and frustrating. I have definitely got to thin down on some dogs this spring. Rob Seidling is getting Flo's sister, Snow, next week. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!!

HUNT

I hunted for a while last night. Drake decided he would go with me. First drop we cut Goose and Flo up a creek bottom that I haven't hunted since deer season started. Goose opened at about 250yds and drifted out to about 400yds and fell treed across a small creek. Flo was opening some but soon came and met us. We got to the tree and I found his coon and we decided to roll it out to Flo. The coon fell in the creek but Goose dragged him out pretty quick and Flo got in on the action. I laid a drag and Flo trailed and treed good on it. We moved to the swamp and cut Flip and Vapor together. Flip went right and Vapor went left. Vapor covered ground in a hurry and was soon 800yds. Flip struck and stayed in one area and half way treed. We got to him and he was barking around a deer feeder. He wasn't sure where the coon was and we leashed him up and walked a ways towards Vapor. Vapor had circled around and was 500yds in the bottom and was trailing a cold track. We cut Flip and he headed the other way. Vapor ended up in a bad cutover and loaded up treed. We waded briars and got to the one tree that was left in the middle of the cutover and it was a big den tree. I leashed Vapor and got to the truck. Flip was 900yds up the bottom so we drove around and got with 200yds of him. He was also in the cutover and half heartedly treeing but didn't sound right. We waded cutover again for about 100yds and he was under a log jam. We leashed him up and called it a night. We came in from hunting and Jewel had laid on 3 of her pups. I built a nice whelping box with pig rails and had her in a building with heat lamps. I don't know why she laid on them but she is down to 2 pups. Hopefully she will raise them. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

Ballgames

I didn't get to hunt last night. I thought we were done with basketball but we ended up making the league tournament. We play tonight at Double Springs and we had practice last night. I'm looking forward to hunting tomorrow night and I hope coons move a little better. Jewel still has her 2 pups and they are doing good. They should be big healthy buggers with no competition for milk. Hopefully my Belle gyp will have pups and Cotton is bred to Floyd as well so I have a couple more nice crosses coming. HUNT

Steeb, I appreciate it. I've got to hit the hunts as well. I got a first on Goose a couple weeks ago and I need to get on the ball. I've got a couple of young ones that will be ready soon. Good luck at the hunts buddy.

I hunted by myself Saturday night and it was the same ole stuff. Couldn't get after a track and dogs covered a lot of ground. First drop I cut Flip alone and he went left and circled out of the bottom. I caught him and cut him again and he hunted out good. He struck at about 500yds and cold trailed for about 200yds in some water. He soon loaded up treed and I made my way to him. He was up a cluster of 8inch trees that grew into a big den. I didn't find his coon. Next drop I cut Vapor alone in a nice bottom that I just started hunting. He went left and struck a track at about 475yds. He didn't open much and was drifting and opening here and there. He was moving very fast and was having a hard time with the track. He finally located and treed and I made my way to him. He was about 6/10's from where I cut him. He didn't sound convincing on the tree and I got to him he was up a poplar and it was slick. I leashed him up and headed to the truck. Next drop I cut Goose in another bottom that I haven't hunted much since deer season. Goose left hard and I heard him open at 400yds. He drifted out and fell treed about 300 more yards and I made my way to him. He was up a dead snag and I didn't see his coon. It could have been hollow at the top but I'm not sure. I headed to the truck and it had been raining on me most of the night and it was getting harder. It was 11:45 when I got the truck so I called it a night. I'm not sure what is going on with coons not moving in my area but I haven't struck a good track but a few times in the last few weeks. Gone hit it again tonight and stay on these potlickers. Y'all Keep'em lookin' up!!

HUNT

Drake and I hunted for a while last night. First drop we cut Vapor and Flip loose in a creek bottom. All this rain has a lot of water standing in the bottoms around here. Dogs hunted out good and Flip soon opened at about 450yds. Vapor opened left handed and both dogs started working the track. Flip loaded up treed and we headed to him. Vapor went to Flip and treed with him. Flip had a coon and I leashed Vapor back and shot the coon. The coon jumped out and took off so we cut both dogs on him. He crossed the creek several times and eventually the dogs lost him. We suspected the coon may have went in the ground somewhere. We gathered up the dogs and headed to the truck. We moved and cut Goose and vapor loose in another bottom. Vapor struck and Goose soon opened with him. We drove around to get closer and I had lost communication with Vapor. Goose had treed I thought but he was on the move again. I could barely hear Vapor and we ended up finding him deep in an underground spring. We took a stick and dug him out. Goose had gotten gone and I drove around and caught him coming up a creek about to cross under the road. Moon was shining and we called it a night. Ill hit it again tonight. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!

HUNT

I hunted for a while in the rain last night. Ryan went with me and looks like he will be back to hunting some. It was spitting rain on us all night. First drop we cut Vapor alone in some hardwood hills. He left out hard and soon he was 500yds down a hollow and struck a track. He worked and drifted the track for about 600 more yards as he circled out of the hollow and over the ridge to the next hollow. He soon located a couple of times but hushed and soon opened on the ground again. He worked around a big slough and up the side of a big hill and soon loaded up treed. He treed good but hushed a few times. He didn't seem sure about the tree. He located again and settled in pretty good. We got to his tree and he had the meat. I rolled it out to him and he finished him off. Vapor is going to be a good kill dog and does a good job fighting a coon. We made our way to the truck and moved to a small bottom that connects to some hardwood hills. We cut Goose and Flo up the bottom. Flo soon opened and started a track. I heard Goose open deeper and load up treed. Flo treed some with him but was off the tree when we arrived. She came in and treed some but wasn't sure about it. She is just getting started and has seen a couple of coons. Goose was up a bay tree that has a lot of leaves but I saw the coon look and then lost him again. Ryan finally found his tail and body in a fork. I shot the coon out and let Flo have it first. Goose had a fit and we let him in on the action as well. I laid a long drag and Flo found and treed on it so there will be no more hang up coons for her. She is coon crazy so hopefully a few hot tracks will get her climbing on the wood consistently. We were wet and it was getting late so we called it a night. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' up!!!

HUNT

It was a good hunt. I have had a hard time striking a decent track lately. Vapor's track didn't seem like a it was a great track but he did a good job of drifting out on it and getting him treed. If he will gain a little more confidence on the tree with these colder tracks, he will be something to deal with in the future. He has a big motor and a good nose and will be alone 99% of the time, so if he can put everything together, he will be nice.

RAIN

I went down to the shop to get my hunting stuff loaded up and the bottom fell out and it was raining straight down. I waited it out til about 9 pm cleaning up some old tools I had in the shop. It didn't let up so I finally went and fed dogs and headed up to the house. I don't mind hunting in the rain if it is light or intermittent but it was a steady down pour. I am supposed to pick up 2 new Rotors, Brakes, and Spindle nut kit for my old Ford Ranger. It has been eating wheel bearings up and I decided to change it all out tonight. FORD ( Fix-Or-Repair-Daily) lol. The old truck has been a good one but going thru 2 teenage boys has taken it toll on it. I have just about gotten it rebuilt by now. Hopefully I will be hitting the woods Saturday night. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

It was good to get back in the woods last night. Ryan came over and went with me. First drop we cut Vapor and Flip loose in a swamp bottom. Flip headed straight in the bottom and struck at about 200yds. Vapor went left handed and struck in at about 250yds. Both dogs were working their tracks and soon Vapor loaded up treed. We headed to him and he was up a big poplar tree and Ryan found his coon as I was leashing him up. I petted Vapor up really good and we headed to the truck. I loaded Vapor and Flip was still working a track. He soon treed at about 500yds and we headed in to him. He was up a large den tree just across a swamp. We made our way out and to the truck. Next drop we moved to another swamp bottom and cut Dolly and Goose. Dolly struck in at 125yds and Goose soon opened a few times as well. They cut left and headed down the bottom. They got into an area and kept locating but neither dog would roll it over and stick. Finally Dolly gave us a big locate and hammered at tree. We headed to her and Goose loaded up treed left handed of Dolly. We leashed up Dolly and I went and leashed up Goose. Goose was up a tree that ran into a big bay and Dolly was treed up a big bay tree. Dolly had 2 coons up her tree and we rolled one out to her. I couldn't find Goose's coon but there could have been one there somewhere. We called it a night and I will hit the woods tonight. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

Drake, Ryan, and I hunted last night. First drop we cut Goose and Flo into a hardwood flat that runs parallel to Luxapililla Creek. Flo opened at about 175yds and Goose soon opened at about 200yds. Goose skipped out and fell treed about 150yds more and Flo treed with him some. We made our way to the tree and I spotted the coon pretty quick. They were on a den but the coon was on the outside. I had my pistol and we rolled the coon out to Flo and let her have a little fun. We cut Goose on him and they finished him off. We loaded up and moved to a different area and cut Dolly and Vapor. Dolly struck immediately and Vapor soon opened at about 200yds. Dolly circled to the left and fell treed. Vapor hates to back a dog and was very slow to do so but finally backed Dolly. It was a den and we cut them off the tree up the bottom. Vapor went back to the tree and I switched him on up the bottom. Vapor headed up a hill and opened a few times and fell treed. Dolly backed him and we headed to the tree. Coon was not at home and I scolded the dogs and we decided to move. We cut them in another small bottom but Vapor was trying so hard to get away from Dolly that he went the wrong way. They were soon at a gravel road so we moved the truck up the road. Dolly came out to the truck but Vapor had crossed the road. He hit a small branch and was coming back towards the road so we caught him up and called it a night. I will be headed to Cullman this evening to pick up a couple of stud pups out of Floyd. Y'all Keep'em Lookin Up!!

I look about as wired up as Flo!! lol
It was a task to keep her still with that coon laying there!!

PUPS

I didn't hunt last night. I drove over to Hanceville and picked up a pair of pups from Chris Blackmon. One pup is out of Floyd and Grits. The other pup is out of Floyd and Bee. They are nice bold pups and I think there will be some nice coondogs that come out of these crosses in the future. I will be hitting the woods tonight. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!

HUNT

Ryan and I hunted last night for a while. First drop we cut Dolly and Flip down a hardwood hollow. I got permission to hunt this section and this was the first time we cut loose in this area. Flip struck followed by Dolly and they were after a pretty good track. They did a good job of moving the coon out but soon things slowed down and I was accusing them of taking the track backwards. Dolly soon fired the track back up and I heard her load up treed. Flip had split off from her and was still trailing. Dolly was about 350yds and we headed to her. It was straight up and down hills but was good timber. We got to the tree and Flip came in about the time we got there so I leashed him back and Ryan had already found Dolly's coon. We rolled it out to her and it came out with a lot of fight. Dolly finished him off and we made our way to the truck. We moved and cut Goose and Flo loose up a small creek bottom that connects to some nice hardwood hills. Flo struck at 300yds and Goose soon opened as well. They made a left hand turn and circled up behind the hills and I heard Goose locate but it didn't sound right. We pulled around a field road and Goose had hushed but Flo was still barking. I have struck this coon 3 times and he does the same thing each time. He follows a small branch out of the bottom and heads up in the hills where he goes in the underground spring. Goose will not stay treed in the ground and had gotten out of there. Goose blew thru the hills and crossed a gravel road into some good hardwood. He cut right up the hollow and was covering ground in a hurry. Flo had headed in his direction so we drove up the road to get even with Goose. He was now almost a mile from where I cut him loose and he was opening here and there and skipping out. I soon heard him load up and tree. We headed in to Goose and we were able to walk a logging road all the way to him. He was treed on the side of the road and had the meat. Flo had got to him and was treeing when we got there. We rolled the coon out to Goose and Flo. We made our way to the truck and called it a night. I am headed up to Terry Tibbs place tonight to hunt. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

I went over to my friend Terry Tibbs' place Friday night and hunted for a while. We had a decent hunt. We cut Vapor alone and he struck a track at about 350yds and worked it the wrong way towards a paved road. I walked around and ended up catching him trailing across a pasture coming towards the road. We cut Terry's Dot gyp and Flip loose next and they struck quick and soon Flip treed with Dot backing him. It was a huge tree but I think it was slick. We cut them off that tree and Dot treed up another big tree but we didn't see a coon there either. Flip came in and Ryan gave him a little encouragement and he soon was 600yds and treed with a coon. We petted him up good and headed to the truck. Terry and his buddy had moved and cut Flips brother loose and he had treed a coon. I cut Vapor with him and they got treed but it was slick. We cut them off that tree and Otto treed again. Vapor located but wasn't sure about it. We got to the tree and both dogs were on the ground. Otto ran by and loaded up on a tree and Dwayne handled him. There was a coon up the tree and that is where they were locating but it was cold. I called it a night and started the 2 hour drive home. I rolled in the house at 3:00 am. I left Flip with Terry and brought home a NtCh male with some wins toward GrNtCh. He hasn't operated for Terry like he was supposed to and I am going to take a chance on him. I will put a lot more time into Vapor. Trying to hunt Flip and Vapor and put alone time on both was a challenge. Vapor will get a good mix of alone and hunted with other dogs over the next few weeks. He has been in somewhat of a rut lately and needs to improve in some areas. Hopefully with more focus on him, he will come out of his rut. I will hit the woods tonight. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

Drake, Ryan and I hunted last night. First drop we cut Rock and Dolly loose in a bottom. They struck pretty quick and started a track. Rock located and hit a tree but ended up going on in the bottom. They worked into the edge of a cutover and both dogs hit the tree about the same time. They were up a den tree that I have treed up a couple of times already. We headed to the truck and moved. I cut Vapor and Goose in some hardwood hills. They split up immediately with Goose heading left and Vapor right. Vapor went about 475yds and circled out on a road and came back towards the truck. I leashed him and loaded him up as Goose was already 750yds. We moved around and pulled up on an oil well pad and Goose was locating a tree and rolled up on the tree. He was about 150yds and we headed in to him. He had the meat and we rolled it out since we were in an area that we don't hunt. Most of the timber is cut and there is some scattered timber along the swamp where Goose was treed.Last drop we cut Goose. Rock and Dolly in a rough bottom. Dolly struck followed by Rock and they started a track. Goose opened to the left a couple of times. Rock located at about 400yds and loaded up treed followed by Dolly. We got to the tree and they were up a large tree that ran into a bay tree full of leaves. We didn't find the coon but he could have been there somewhere. We headed to the truck and Goose loaded up treed about 200yds to the left. We got to him and he was up a leaning tree that was a den tree. We didn't see his coon. We called it a night. We had gotten a late start as I was putting the puppies in a pen with a heat lamp. I also have an old English bulldog that is 12yrs old, blind and deaf, so I put him in my shop with a heater. We will keep hitting the woods and see what we can get done. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

GOOSE

Keith he is getting pretty consistent at being deep and alone under a coon. He really wants to be by himself. If nothing happens, I am headed to Cottondale this weekend to an RQE hunt. I need to get him finished and I have an exciting cross planned with him and Dolly that will line up a lot of old Uchtman blood.

HUNT

I didn't get to hunt last night but Ryan came and got ROck, Dolly and Flo. He cut loose in the bottom and dogs struck in quick and started a good track. They trailed about 250yds and Dolly hit the tree , immediately followed by Rock. Flo got in on the tree as well. It was a smaller tree that ran into a big oak and they had the meat in the fork of the oak tree. Ryan petted up the dogs and called it a night. I will be hitting the woods tonight and see what we can get done. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT

Ryan and I hunted last night for a couple of drops. First drop we cut Dolly and Flo loose in a swamp bottom. Dolly struck pretty quick and Flo soon opened with her. Dolly ran a short track and loaded up treed. Flo was there and was treeing some but was on and off the tree as we walked up. Dolly had the meat and we leashed her up and shot the coon to Flo. It didn't have much fight in him and we cut Dolly on him after Flo had finished him off. We loaded up and headed to another spot and cut Goose and Rock into a rough swamp bottom. Rock struck in at about 250yds and started a track. Goose opened at about 300yds and was moving out opening here and there. They got to Yellow Creek and swimmed the creek and I heard Goose load up followed closely by Rock. They really lit up the tree. It took us a while to find somewhere to cross the creek as it was over our boots. We finally found a sandbar and Ryan ended up getting over his boots anyway. I was lucky and barley skimmed by without getting wet. We got to the tree and they were up a huge oak with the meat sitting out on a limb. I shot him and he ran out the limb and jumped out in the creek. Goose bailed in after him and was sticking his head under water trying to find the coon. Ryan spotted the coon close to the bank and grabbed his tail and chunked him up on dry land. Goose and Rock finished the coon off and we petted them up. Rock is a little rusty but I think he will be nice when I get him tuned up. He has a big mouth and is a nice treedog. He is a bawl mouth tree dog but he rolls one after the other. Goose and Rock rode in the same side of the dog box and both were perfect gentlemen in the box and on the tree. Both dogs have a great disposition. Rock has the motor that I like and gets gone and gets struck quick. Drake says he is going to hunt him in some hunts and try to GrNtCh him as he has 1 win to grand now. Goose just continues to just get gone , get treed with the meat. Dolly has really been clicking and Ryan has been hunting her hard. She has been somewhat inconsistent in the past but she has been sitting under coons about everytime we hunt her lately. Just going to stay on them. We called it a night since Ryan got wet and it was about 25 degrees here. I am headed to a hunting club tonight that is supposed to be over ran with coons. The owner is going with us and wants every coon we tree to be shot out. Hopefully we will get a couple treed tonight. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!
