HUNT
My hunting is still limited but I'm getting in the woods a little. I've got a couple of young prospects for this fall that have me excited. I have a male out of GrNtCh Running Bud and GrChNtCh Southern blue hardwood Cotton. I also have a female out of Bocephus and a gyp out of Cotton's sister and GrNtCh Big Time Albert. Snow is her name and she is wired 440 and has a monster mouth. Time will tell. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT
I hunted by myself Friday night. I took Cotton, Goose, and Flip. ( Cotton X BUD)
First drop I cut all 3 dogs. Goose went left and Cotton went right down the bottom. Cotton struck at about 350 yds and started a bad track. She worked it to a pretty rough swampy area and was opening here and there. I had not heard Goose but he was steady headed to a really bad flooded area. Flip stayed in a little while but came out to the truck. I just ignored him and he hunted down an old road by himself. I soon heard Cotton load up treed and I made my way to her. She was on a huge tree loaded with muscadine vines. I soon spotted her coon and she ended up with 2 up the tree. I rolled one out to her and Flip. I got back to the truck and I could hear Goose treed at 750 yds down the bottom. I drove in to about 300yds and made my way to him. He was in the edge of the flooded area but it wasn't too bad. He had the meat but I could only get it to look a couple of times. Next drop I cut all 3 dogs again and they went different ways again. Cotton went down a small branch in a big hollow and eventually hit a large creek. Goose went to the right and soon was on a creek that crosses the gravel road. There is an old flooded cutover on the other side so I drove around and caught him up coming under the road. Cotton was trailing and I drove around closer to her. She soon treed on the side of the creek and I made my way to her. She was on a large bay tree and had the meat. I called it a night as I had to get up early and start getting ready for our football games. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!!

Football
Well my football season is almost over and I'm looking forward to burning the woods up again. I need 2 wins to Grand Nite Champion Cotton and I am going to push Goose hard in the hunts. Goose is independent and accurate and will get deep in a hurry. I have a couple of young dogs that I need to get started. My Flip pup is out of Cotton and balzin Bud. Terry Tibbs raised the litter. I have a female with a huge mouth and wired 440. She is out of Bocephus. Her mother is a gyp out of Cottons sister and big time Albert. Hope everyone is doing well and good luck with ole blue. I'm excited to have GrNtCh PR Moses' Pink Floyd here at Southern Bluetick Kennels for the winter. Looks like he is going to have a few nice gyps bred to him down here. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

HUNT
Drake and I hunted for a while Friday night. We cut Goose and Drakes young dog loose first in a rough little bottom. They left hard and didn't open for a while. Nails soon opened deep and I looked at the Garmin. They were 650 yds in the bottom. Goose opened a couple of times and loaded up treed. We made our way to them and I spotted the coon pretty quick. Goose really lit up the tree. He is a super nice tree dog and these cooler nights , he really lights it up. Next drop we cut Cotton and my Flip pup loose in a hardwood hollow. Cotton went the wrong way but soon struck a track. She worked it across a gravel road and loaded up treed up a large red oak. She had her coon and we loaded up and moved. We cut Goose and Nails again. They got deep again and Nails struck and started a track. Goose loaded up treed and Nails backed him. We walked 550 yds to the tree and they had a greasy possum smiling at us. I cut me a muscadine vine and shot out the possum and we had a little meeting at the tree. We called it a night and I'm looking forward to hitting the woods wide open in a couple more weeks. My football team are in the 1st round of the playoffs this week. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!

HUNT
I got to hit the woods last night for a little while. I had caught a coon in a live trap so I took my Flip pup ( Blazin Bud x Cotton ) and my Snow pup ( Bocephus x Uchtman Female ). I also loaded up Dolly and Jewel. Jewel is out of Tuckers Blue Boomer and is heavy super jet 6 on bottom. I got Flip fired up on the coon pretty good but Snow didn't really get too fired up on it. She is 5 months old so she will need to mature a tad bit more. I held Flip and let him see the coon run off. He opened good on track. The coon only ran a short distance and went up a small tree. Flip treed on him and I shot it out to him. I moved down the bottom and cut Dolly and Jewel with the pups. They struck a good track and Flip was opening good with them. They worked the track down the creek and Dolly loaded up treed followed quickly by Jewel. Flip was off the tree but was winding up and treeing. I leashed up the dogs and ended up finding the coon directly over Flips head so he was smelling the coon. I gathered up dogs and cut them in the hardwood hills that surround the bottom. Dogs blew thru the section and never struck. I caught them up and called it a night. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!

HUNT
Drake and I hunted for a little while on Friday night. First drop we cut Goose and Drakes pup, Nails loose in a rough bottom. They left hard and were soon about 450yds when Nails struck and started a track. Goose opened left of him a few times and loaded up treed. Nails backed him and we made our way to the tree. They were on a big den tree. We moved to some hardwood hills and cut Cotton, Flip, Nails and Goose. Cotton struck a bad track at about 350yds and Goose went straight up a big hollow. Flip didn't hunt well and I loaded him up. We soon moved around as Cotton and Nails were trailing across a gravel road. Cotton as about 800 yds from where we cut loose and she loaded up treed. Nails backed her but was milling when we got there. Cotton was on a huge den tree too. We loaded them up and Goose was another 850 yds in a rough area. We moved around to get closer because the wind was really blowing. I could hear him treed but it was hard to pinpoint him. We got closer and walked in to him. He was up a big water oak and had the meat. We rolled it out to him and called it a night. We got beat in the first round of playoffs so I will be getting dogs tuned up and hitting some hunts. Y'all keep'em Lookin' UP!!

Hunt
I went to hunt with Terry Tibbs Friday night. Drake went with me. First drop we cut Cotton and GrNtCh Frost Hollow Strap loose. Strap opened down a branch and Cotton opened to the left. Cotton soon trailed up the side of a mountain and treed. Strap backed her and it was a large den. We recut them and Cotton opened down the branch and strap opened to the right. Cotton trailed up the mountain again and treed with strap coming in to her. It was a den tree as well. We sent them on but they ended up back on same tree so I did a little training and they moved on down the creek. Strap got struck and treed with Cotton coming into his tree and they were on the third den tree. We decided to cut Goose and Drakes Nails pup the other direction. They left hard and were soon over 800 yds. We drove around and got within 400 yds and Goose was blowing the top out. We got to him and Nails was mulling around so we chained him back and rolled out a huge coon to Goose. We sent them on and they got deep again on posted land. They were cold trailing so Drake and I walked in and caught them up. It was late so we made our way to truck. Nails started opening on leash so we cut him alone. He ran a short track and loaded up treed with 3 up one tree. We rolled one out and called it a night. Goose continues to impress me with a big motor and deadly accuracy. Y’all keep’em lookin up.

HUNT
I hunted by myself last night. I had a caged coon that I cut loose and turned my Flip pup out on it. He did get it treed but didn't do a very good job. I cut Cotton and Belle loose in the bottom. Cotton went left and Belle right. Belle came out in the field but Cotton struck and she went to Cotton. Cotton loaded up treed at about 500 yds and Belle went and backed her. They were treed close to a deer feeder up a bunch of large bay trees. I never could get the coon to look. I moved and cut Goose and Belle loose down a hardwood hollow. Goose struck in at about 500 yds and opened here and there. He loaded up treed at 800yds and Belle treed with him. I drove around to within 200yds and walked in to them. They were up a large water oak tree in the edge of a pine thicket. I could never get to where I could see the tree very good and leashed them up and headed to the truck. Next drop I cut Cotton and Flip. Flip didn't hunt well and I loaded him up. Cotton struck in at 350 yds and worked a colder track about 350 yds more and loaded up treed. She was up a den tree and I didn't see him on the outside. I called it a night and will hit the woods tonight. Y'all keep'em Lookin' Up!!

I’m about to get back in the groove again with football over. Drake, Jenna Kay and I hunted last night. I turned out a coon and cut Nails and Flip loose on it. They ran and treed him so we rolled it out to them. We cut Cotton and Nails loose in the bottom. They struck a decent track but ended up in a swamp. Cotton treed but didn’t sound convincinig. We got to her and she was treed slick. She got a good adjustment. Next drop we cut Goose and Flip. Goose got deep and got treed up a big oak tree and we couldn’t get it to look. Goose has been very accurate but I didn’t see him. Jenna Kay has school so we called it a night. Y’all keep’em lookin up!!

HUNT
I hunted in the rain and cold last night and didn't have a good hunt. First drop I cut Cotton and Belle loose in a hardwood hollow. Cotton struck and started a track. She circled down the hollow and up a ridge and soon located and loaded up treed. Belle hit it right with her and they sounded good on the tree. They were on a huge oak tree and I never could get the coon to look. Next drop I cut Goose and Flip loose. Flip still isn't going with the dogs. He is testing my patience. He goes in with dogs but will come out after about 5 minutes. He does go off on his own some and he will tree a hot coon. He is only 9 months old so hopefully he will mature. Goose on the other hand can get you in some strange territory if coons aren't moving and that was the case last night. He hunted down a big hollow and blew thru that section and went across a pasture into another section. I ended up driving around and catching him coming up a small creek. I moved around and cut Cotton and Belle loose again. Same story as they covered a lot of ground and never got struck. I drove in an old road and caught them up. Coons didn't seem to be moving and I called it a night. I will hit it again tonight. Y'all keep'em Lookin' Up!!

COON NOT MOVING
I hunted two drops last night to in the heavy mist of rain and wind. BO and Rose covered a lot of ground and didn't get a bark. Sounds like you been busy Darren. It will slow down and you can start hitting the woods as much as you like. That will bring the best out in those hounds. Take Care and have a Happy Thanksgiving next week.

HUNT
I hunted for a while last night by myself. It was good and cold. We actually had a little snow Wednesday night. First drop I cut Cotton and the Vapor pup loose in a swamp bottom. They left hard but Vapor soon came out after about 5 minutes. I walked him down an old logging road. He ventured out pretty good and soon opened on a track. I also heard Cotton open deep and checked the Garmin. She was 550 yds down the bottom and had a decent track going. She had gotten in the rough area that has a lot of water. I sat on the tailgate and enjoyed the sounds of those bluedogs and sipped on my coffee. Vapor soon let out a locate and went on a tree. I made my way to him and he was up a huge tree. I could not find his coon but I have been having trouble getting them to look. I got him off the tree and loaded him up. I barely could hear Cotton but she was blowing the top out down the bottom. I drove around and pulled down an old field road and got within 300 yds of her and headed to her tree. She had worked thru most of the water and was in a nice section of hardwoods. I looked for a long while and finally hit the tree with a bright light as a last ditch effort to see her coon. I was lucky and found him sitting high in a fork. I beat on the tree with a rock and never got the coon to look at me. Next drop I cut Cotton, Vapor and Goose up a ditch leading into some big hardwood hills. Of course Cotton went left and Goose went right. Cotton struck a cold track and went to working it around the side of the hill. Goose opened 300yds left up a big swampy hollow. Goose drifted out and soon loaded up treed. I headed to him and heard my Vapor pup open over the hill by himself. Goose was up a huge den tree. I looked it over but couldn't see him on the outside. I pulled Goose off the tree and Cotton was treed about 500 yds the other direction. I loaded Goose up and headed to Cotton. She was up a huge red oak tree with a bunch of muscadine vines running all up in it. It still had tons of leaves and I could not find her coon. I could still hear Vapor trailing around over in the next hollow. I loaded Cotton in truck and started walking towards the pup. I got closer and he was doing his best with the track but inexperience and colder conditions were getting the best of him. I waited a while on him and finally walked in and caught him up. He sure didn't want to quit on the track so I liked his drive and his independence. Time will tell if he will make the cut. I called it a night and look forward to hitting the woods this weekend. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!

HUNT
I hunted by myself Saturday night. I took Goose and Cotton as well as two pups , FLIP and Vapor. First drop I cut Goose and Flip loose in a swamp bottom. Goose left hard and soon was 700 yds down the bottom. Flip came out and I sent him in another direction. He opened and started a track. He worked his way across the bottom and Goose was almost a mile. I heard Goose locate and load up treed. I was able to drive within 300 yds of him and headed to his tree. Unfortunately he had gotten deep and treed a greasy possum. I gave him an adjustment and headed to the truck. Flip had worked his track across the bottom but had gotten into a lot of water and seemed to have hung up on it. I walked in and watched him work for a bit and finally caught him up. I moved down the bottom and cut Cotton , Vapor , and Flip loose in the same swamp bottom. Cotton went left, Flip went right, and Vapor shot straight in bottom. I like the independence that I see from both of these pups. Flip struck left and was opening here and there while Vapor was opening around a slough. Cotton opened left and started a track. She soon loaded up treed. I made my way to her and she was in some rough stuff. Every step you make is about knee deep of mud and water. I got to her an she was in a hedge thicket. There were the blue hedge berries all on the ground and on the hedges. Cotton was treed up all the hedges and I didn't see a coon. I don't think she had a coon but it was thick in there. I Scolded her and made my way to the truck. I moved around and walked in to catch up the pups as both were struggling with the tracks. I moved and cut Cotton and Vapor loose in some nice hardwood hills. Cotton struck followed by Vapor. They worked down a small creek and split up. Vapor let out a locate and hit a tree but didn't stick it. Cotton soon located in the same area and loaded up treed. Vapor came in to the tree after I got there but kept trying to trail off. I leashed up the dogs and Cotton was up a large water oak. I looked and squalled but couldn't get the coon to look. Next drop I cut Goose and Flip loose down another hardwood hollow. Flip stayed gone about 15 minutes and came out. I loaded him up and checked the Garmin. Goose was 8/10's of a mile. I drove around and heard him opening every once in awhile. He soon located and loaded up treed. I made my way to him and he was up a red oak. I looked for a long time and couldn't get the coon to look. I finally bright lighted the tree and luckily found him sitting in a fork. I rolled him out to Goose and called it a night. Not a great hunt but I saw some things out of both of the pups that I liked and some things that concern me. Time will tell if they can make the cut here. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

I use the forums as a log of my hunts. I can look back to last years posts about this time and compare my hunts. I always tell the good and the bad. I think we all got to be able to see strengths and weaknesses in our dogs. I will make no excuses. The Flip puppy is out of GrNtCh PR Blazin Bud x NtChGrCh PR Southern Blue Cotton
The Vapor pup is out of GrNtCh PR Rogers Blue Eli x a GrNtCh gyp. I haven’t gotten his papers back yet. Thanks for reading and post anytime!!

HUNT
I hunted last night for a while. My 9 yr old daughter went with me as she is out of school this week. We took Cotton. Belle, Goose, and Vapor. First drop we cut Cotton and Belle loose down a hardwood hollow. Cotton went down the hollow and Belle circled out and hit an old logging road. Cotton soon struck in at about 500 yds and I could barely hear her. I knew she must be in a large hollow. We started walking to get closer. We soon heard Cotton load up treed. I decided to drive around and get closer. We started to her and hit a huge cutover. I decided since Jenna Kay was with me to go back out and go to the original place we heard her treed. We walked about 600yds up and down the hills and finally got to Cotton. She was at the bottom of a bluff on the edge of a strip pit pond. I made Jenna Kay stand at the top and I picked my way down the high wall to get to Cotton. She was treed on a tree that ran up the high wall and touched at the top. The coon has crossed out at the top I figured. I made my way back up the bluff and we headed to the truck. We drove down an old road and Belle came out to the truck and we loaded her up. Next drop we cut Goose and Vapor down another hardwood hollow with a small creek at the bottom. Vapor went right and Goose left. Vapor opened at about 125 yds and located a tree. He started treeing and we headed in to him. Before we could get to him Goose located and loaded up treed. Vapor pulled and went to Goose. I saw the tree Vapor was treed up and he had a coon. We headed 200yds down the hollow to Goose and Vapor was treeing with him. Goose had a coon and I petted him up good and leashed him at the tree. I took Vapor and sent him back up the hollow and he went back to the tree he was treed up. I shot the coon out to him. I leashed him at his tree and took the coon down to Goose's tree. I shot and chunked the coon up to him. We made our way to the truck and called it a night. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' UP!!
