BAR STOOL ECONOMICS...Something to THINK about

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all such good customers, he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?' They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant the men bega n to compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20,'declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,' but he got $10!'

'Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!'

'That's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Good morning corky !! I made it !! I thought I had the flu .. I HAD to go to the dr.. Lol ..glad I did... I have a very bad case of some kind of sinus infection .. Which clogged up my sinus cavities ... My face, neck, eyes, head , cheeks, ears, teeth ... Ect .. I could not even touch ... It was sooo painful ...even my chest and back ... And legs...hurt... My eye lids were starting to swell ..... The fever lasted 3 days ... And the deep yucky cough is still lingering .. But Praise God .. The dr. Said if I'd waited one more day ... It would have gone to my lungs ... Sooo I'm here to say ... God is "more than" good !!!! I am grateful to be alive and feeling better !!! Thank you ALL for your prayers.... They were much felt and appreciated !!!

I haven't read all the post .. But did look at the pic !! Love them ALL !!
When the nausea feeling goes away .. I hope to catch up !!!

Corky, I'm doing my best! I have been eatting good lowfat high calcium and Vit. D foods for a few days now...I am GOING to get better! Hopefully Bob will drop a couple lbs while I'm dieting....we've both been HOGS lately...

Gotta remember to set our clocks back Sat/Sun! I HATE the days that get dark early.... I know it's way better for hunting but it makes me feel sad and sleepy...lol....
Weather was up and down today. A bit cool but not bad and a few spots of drizzle and rain. I got my chores done and stayed DRY! WOooHOooo!

Well, off to see wassup and get sleep to go work tomorrow for mum. My chest cold is 99.9% gone and I feel decent all things considered. I look forward to seeing mum too of course....

Sounds like fun. 3 lbs bigger than the biggest I ever got around here , and that one had been using the cat hole in the door to my cousins farrow to finnish hog feed room. Must be good and plenty of feeed up there, Or genetic improved coons. LOL Did they give you a good chase or waddle offt?

got in stand at 7am this morning, 7-45 am i killed a 6 pointer, nice deer, ruined my sons day though he had to help me get it to the truck, well he done all the hard work, he sure was proud of the old man though.---------- WB great job.--------- have a good one------- see ya

Reckon them fat coons are slow enough for them red dogs to keep up with. Glad you having fun WB.

Looked at 3 last night and 2 Tuesday night. Ole blue broke a few hearts at the PKC hunt last Sat. The ole man can still find a acorn every now and then.

Gona go MOH a UKC hunt at the club tonight, Red dogs better behave.

WB - sounds like you had a good time. 34# is a big a** coon. I think the biggest one I ever got was 26 or 27#. Post some pics, we would love to see them.

Dan - congrats on the buck.

Everyone - I am asking for some prayers for my mother in law. She has been in ICU for the last 2 days. She has been having siezures brought on because of side effects from medication she has been taking, she has also developed phenomia and other compliplcations. She doesn't recognize anyone and doesn't know where she is at. My wife and her siblings are staying with her 24-7 and this is a tough time for all. So please keep Barbra West in you Prayers. Thanks!

I saw the pictures of the coons and the Red dogs on the Redbone Classified page under Rabble Rouser...next generations. It looks like WB is going to be a top Breeder of Redbone coonhounds in the near future. The pups that he bred and raised out of his female are really starting to turn it on. He may be famous one day. We will be able to say that we knew him when he just got started. I am going to start saving the pictures that I have of him.

Well .. I just couldn't break my word to a 18 year old kid that has been waiting to see what the coon hunting world is all about !! Sooo. It didn't matter how I felt ... We all loaded up yesterday morning and headed out to the onion coon hunt and events !! With my good friend tony poole !! Of course I was right , the kid is addicted ! Just simply LOVES coon hunting !! He enjoyed all events ... Water race, field trial, bench show and of course the hunt !! I told him all about each one of you !!! His mother is from OHIO !!! I said geee you might wanna move right back with all those coons !! His mother use to coon hunt with her dad when she was little ... To bad she married a city man .. Bc she misses it !!
