Hunt

I hunted with Kyle Southern and his NtCh Moose Black and Tan
Al Christian had his NtCh T-Rex hound and a black gyp. I took Hermit and Belle. First drop we cut Moose , Hermit and the black gyp down a hardwood hollar. Moose soon struck followed by the gyp. Hermit acted stupid and didn’t act like he was wanted to hunt. He has always went hunting good. I caught him and we went for a little talk. We invited a hickory switch and Hermit understood he needed to be in the woods and not checking on me. Moose soon treed and Hermit loaded up and treed right. We got to the tree and Moose had the meat. We rolled it out alive and Hermit dragged it out of the creek and the fight was on. Next drop we cut Belle and T up a creek bottom. T struck and went left. Belle soon opened and located but didn’t sound right. I made my way there and she was in the ground. I’m sure it was a dillar. T had gotten out of there and was at truck. I switched Belle and sent her on down creek. Al gave T an adjustment and both dogs were soon 800 yds. They were working a track and heard Belle treed. We moved and started to her. T came in to the tree and it was a big poplar. No coon seen. We cut them off the tree and they soon struck up the branch. T loaded up with Belle just a second behind him. Coon seen and rolled it out. Al called it a night and Kyle and I cut Hermit and Moose at 1:30 am. Full moon and dead silence for awhile. Moose soon opened in some bad water. Hermit made his way to cleaner area as I don’t think he was too fond of swimming. He will learn. Lol Moose moved the track down the bottom and treed. We walked beaver dams and logs and finally got to him on a huge den. We drove around and I walked in and caught Hermit. Moose is a nice hound. The Black and Tan boys need to check him out. I rolled in at 3:00 am. Y’all keep’em lookin’ up!!

Hunting

Been UAB hospital with my wife all day. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and she had surgery today. She is doing good. Drake is going to hunt dogs for me for a few nights til I can get back in the woods. Hopefully I will be hitting a UKC hunt Friday night if my wife feels ok. Y’all keep’em lookin up !!

Prayers up for your wife, yourself, and your family. That danged disease does not discriminate, and has affected way too many people and their families lives.

Great to see you back at it, I always enjoy following your thread and reading about your hunts.

Haven’t heard anything out of that Meyers outlaw for a spell. I hope Jason and his family are all doing as well as can be. I really enjoyed hunting with Jason when he was up in this neck of the woods working a couple years back.

HUNT

The hunt report from Drake last night says they made three trees. First tree was slick with both gyps loading up at same time. Next drop Belle had first and first on a den. Last drop Dolly and first and first on a coon. Drake said gyps hunted out and looked good. Just got to stay after them. I got some info on Belle from Darian Dillion about Belle. Scott and I felt like Belle hasn't had a lot of woods time and was mostly just a natural. She continues to get better each night. From what I hear she has been bred a few times already and has thrown some smart pups with natural instinct. Y'all keep'em Lookin' up!!

HUNT

Drake and my nephew Griffin hunted last night. They cut Hermit , Dolly, and Drake's pup Frank loose on first drop. They struck in at about 300 yds and ran good track down the bottom and crossed the road into the hills. They loaded up treed and Drake said it was a big den but they really treed good on it and said his Frank pup was smelling up the tree and opened some on the ground. Next drop dogs struck pretty quick and ran a short track and loaded up treed. Drake said he thought it was slick and didn't find a coon. Last drop he said dogs struck at about 500 yds and got into some bad water. They finally got it out of the water and soon treed about 800 yds away. They waded some rough stuff and finally got to the dogs and soon found the meat. He petted them up good and called it a night. He is going to stay home tonight with his mom and hopefully I can get to hit the woods. I've been having withdrawals from hunting this week, so I'm ready to hit it tonight. y'all keep'em lookin' up!!

HUNT

Drake stayed at home with his mom last night and let me get out of the house and turn a dog loose and stretch my legs. Well I sure got to stretch them lol. I took Belle and Hermit and went to a spot that has lots of rolling hardwood and some deep hardwood hollows. I cut Both dogs across a small hardwood flat that leads to a big hardwood hollow with a natural spring at the bottom. Of course they cut and went the other direction and Hermit struck but was only opening every 5 minutes or so. Belle struck and was about the same. Neither Belle nor Hermit have been opening a lot on the ground and are a little tight. Both dogs made their way out of the timber, across a logging road and into a bad cutover. I was sure dreading wading those briars but eventually they move left into one of the deep hollows and blew up treed. I got around most of the rough stuff and got to them. Both dogs were knocking it down pretty good but it was a huge den and I couldn't find him on the outside. I made my way to the truck and moved down to a small hollow that has a nice little creek running down it into a flat little bottom. Dogs left hard but I soon saw Hermit easing back the opposite of where I sent him. I talked a little rough and he headed on down the creek. Dead silence!!
300 yds....450yds....600yds....800yds... Soon they had left the good timber and were in planted pines. I started walking to make sure I could hear if they struck and soon I was in new territory. At about 1.8 miles from where I was standing Belle opened and Hermit followed with both dogs loading up treed. I make my to them and they were treed on a huge pine tree down in a little hollow that still had a good bit of hardwood. I squalled and looked but couldn't get him to look. I guess they get benefit of the doubt but I didn't see the meat. I just leashed them up and ended up walking 3.6 miles back around to the truck. I avoided some rough stuff but it cost me some shoe leather. I'm just glad it was cool. I have been waiting on Belle show that little bit of extra kick and get on thru the country if need be. Well I guess she and Hermit showed me last night cause they sure kicked on in there. I guess sometimes we get what we ask for !!!

Hunt

I took Belle to a ukc hunt last night. I knew it might be a little premature as Belle is still a little rusty. I drew 2 walkers and Belle held her own in the cast. I had a chance to win with a First tree but they missed the coon and all dogs drew minus. We ended with a dead cast but I got a feel how Belle would operate with strange dogs. We are going to continue to put some hard hunting on her and see what happens. Y’all keep’em lookin up!!!

HUNT

Drake and I hunted last night for a little while. It was about a sorry hunt. First drop we cut Belle alone in a nice little bottom. She went in about 100 yds but circled out and ran up an old logging road. She crossed a country road and got into some good timber in the hills. She made a pass thru the edge of the timber and hit a hunting club road. We drove around and got on the backside of the timber and cut Dolly and Hermit loose down a big hollow. Dolly struck and worked down the creek and Hermit soon fell treed. Dolly backed him and we made our way to the tree. We still had not heard Belle. It was a big den tree and we cut them off of it. Dolly soon struck and Hermit opened a few times and fell treed again. Dolly half heartedly backed him and it was slick. I scolded them pretty good and sent them on up the branch. Belle came in and soon opened a few times and treed but sounded funny. Hermit was opening with her. Dolly was a little further up the branch. We made our way to them and just as I thought, they were in the ground in the side of the creek bank. After closer inspection Drake found an armadillo in the hole. I gave Belle and Hermit a pretty good adjustment and we called it a night. We are going to keep after them!! Y'all Keep'em lookin' Up!!!

HUNT

Drake and I hunted with a buddy of mine and his NtCh Black and Tan last night. First drop we cut his dog Moose and Hermit together down a hardwood hollow. Moose didn't want to hunt well for some reason but Hermit cut on down the hollow. Hermit got struck at about 350yds and was just bumping around here and there. He gave a couple locates but didn't stick it. Moose ended up going to him and picked the track up and got it going. It wasn't long til Moose located and Hermit backed him. They were about 950 yds and we drove around to within 200 yds and made our way to the tree. Hermit was really blowing the top out. I soon found the coon and we rolled it out to them. Next drop we cut Dolly, Belle , and my buddies young dog. Dolly struck and started working a track down the bottom. Belle was opening here and there and the young dog was doing the same. It was cold track and there are lots of water in the bottom. Belle and Dolly soon loaded up about the same time and the young dog backed them. They did a good job of treeing as we made our way to the tree. They were treed on a poplar that ran into a bay tree. We didn't see the coon and I'm not sure they had him. We cut them off the tree and Belle and Dolly didn't hunt well. They both were locating on a leaning tree but wouldn't stick it. I finally caught them up and loaded them in the box. Kyle's young dog had gotten deep and was bumping around. We ended up driving around and walking into him as he was locating but wouldn't turn it over. He was trying to tree up a den tree but just wasn't sure of it. We called it a night and got home around 12:30 am. Hopefully tonight will be more productive. Had a good conversation with my old buddy Stanly Bowling yesterday. He likes to pick on me and I just give it back to him lol. I enjoyed the time we got to talk dogs and life. HUNT

Drake and I hunted last night for a while.
Belle is coming in heat so she is going to be sidelined for a little while. My buddy that has Moose has been pretty impressed with my Hermit dog. Hermit has been a natural treedog that was easy to start and has progressed well. He has been telling his buddy about him and he came to my kennel yesterday and ended up buying him. Last night we took Dolly and Drake's pup. First drop we cut down an old logging road to help make it easier on his pup to go hunting. Dolly and the pup left out and struck in at about 100 yds. Dolly worked a cold track and was really struggling with it but moved it on out about 400 yds. She soon treed but was not making me a believer. We got to her and the pup was there as well. She was treed slick. We scolded her a little and moved on down the road. We cut again down a big hollow with a small branch running at the bottom. Dolly struck and again it was not a great track. She moved down the hollow and looked up several times but ended up moving on down the branch. She moved left off the branch and soon loaded up right. She located and hammered the tree. We got in there and it was thick but I don't believe she had a coon there either. Last drop we cut down a hollow towards a feeder. Dolly fell treed after a short track. I felt confident that she would have the meat but I didn't find the coon. Dolly has the tools to be nice but she is really struggling. She has treed several coons for us but over the past couple of weeks she has been missing too much. She has been stood up for over a year and I don't want to be too rough on her but she is going to have to start getting under coons or she is going to have whelps on her hide!!! We are going to stay after them. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!!

Hunt

Drake and I hunted last night. We took Dolly and Drakes pup. The pup is 6 months old out of White Oak Blitz and White Oak Mtn Snooter. Blitz is out of the Logan x Belle cross and Snooter is Gauge x GrNtCh Crosby’s Snooter. He is going hunting with Dolly. He is not interested in a coon yet but he will learn to load,ride,lead and go hunting. Maybe he will start soon. First drop Dolly didn’t hunt well and we picked up and moved. We cut her and Pup in a rough swamp bottom. Dolly struck at about 150 yds and moved a track good about 450 and loaded up right. Ole pup got behind some water and booger barked some. We gave him a little push to help him along. Lol. Dolly had a coon and we rolled it out to her and the pup. We moved to another bottom and cut them loose but didn’t get struck. They tried to cross the road and we caught them. Next drop we cut them in the hills. Dolly struck a bad track and was struggling to move it. She half heartedly treed and we got there to a slick tree. I gave her some encouragement and she picked up the track and got it going. She soon treed right but was on a huge den tree. We cut them again on up the road and Dolly struck another bad track. She did a better job of moving it but got treed on another den. We called it a night and rolled in at 2:00 am. We are going to stay after them. I have another young prospect headed my way that I’m excited about. Can’t wait to get him here. Y’all keep’em lookin ‘up!!
