"Hunted just like a Walker" his words not mine. I just never had the pleasure of hunting with her.

I have hunted with some dang good Black and Tans and some fine English dogs. Only hunted with a couple Red dogs and did not see them tree a coon. Have hunted with a bunch of Walkers and almost all of them treed coons with the exception of a few young dogs. Im sure there are some real good ones in all the breeds. I'm just limited to the ones I have actually seen cast in the woods.

Many on here bash the Walker breed. I'm just trying to figure out why. Because in all honesty the best coon dogs I have ever seen have all been Walkers. Maybe I'm missing something.

I like walkers and Blueticks, it fun to get some bashing in on walkers but it's all for sh!ts and giggles. Wouldn't mind getting a lone pine or coma dog.

I can only post a few photos...the video hadn't been invented yet!!!!! These were taken a few weeks past their "train runnin' days"....

Those are some nice looking dogs. I guess it's true what they say then "those red dogs really can tree a coon" LOL

Redbones

Those are some nice looking hounds there. We had a buddy in NY that had a kennel full of them and they couldn't tree a Tick in a dead cedar tree to save their life. But Billy Coleman had some nice ones. Babbled a little but got the job done.

Msinc what year did they come out with color photography? Did you freeze brand " pr " on them because you knew they'd never make night champion ?

No, actually "Purple Ribbon" breeding hadn't even been invented yet!!!! As to the color, I sent the pix to Turner Broadcasting to have them "colorized"...color photography didn't come out until 1939 in the movie "Gone With The Wind."
Many people wrongly believe that "The Wizard Of Oz" was the first color movie. It didn't get to the color part until Dorothy got to the land of Oz, then it went back to B&W when she returned to Kansas.
I freeze branded about a thousand dogs back in those days for others. What memories...The PR freeze brand stands for Pax River, the name of my kennel back then...Tom Milsaps uses that name now, he still hunts redbones.
You guys think I was joking about running the freight train...if you look in that picture you will see copper wire wrapped around her collar. She wasn't long out of the "Wick" method, and it worked too...

Did you pull a train on a pulley past the shock cage ? If you did I won't pick on you anymore you're a bad man, or at least you were back in the 30s

No, I cannot tell a lie, contrary to what a few crybabies on this forum would have you believe!!! Nope, I figured I had to be smarter than the dog, so when I heard the train coming down the tracks I took that ones collar off and said, "sick 'em boy" then went and got me another pup to try...

He77, don't let up now...we just startin to have us some fun!!!!

With all of that copper on the collar, you couldn't hunt if lightning was in a 10 mile radius. Or was that before lightning was invented?

I still don't understand the copper wire on a dog collar

It's a trash breaking method that was in the walk with wick book. It did work too

I seem to remember lightning back then...

Posted by shadinc on 06-15-2015 05:47 PM:

It's for trash breaking in a cage with help from an electric fence. My neighbor had a blue heeler that would rip up his newspaper every morning. I put him in my cage and ran a newspaper by him about 30 times in a week. He never touched another newspaper. A lot of people break house dogs on newspaper, but I think I'm the only person that ever broke one FROM newspaper.
