Had a good time and hunted with a good group of guys and got beat by a nice bone collector TW male handled by a good kid from new York. The best dog tonight won and it wasn't poncho. Ponch did a decent job but wasn't at the top of his game and I made some bad calls... didn't matter in the long run, even if I would have called him perfect the outcome would have been the same. OH WELL, maybe next year. Hope some of the other blue dogs had better luck than I did.

I don't post much about my nights pleasure hunting, getting the dogs tuned and ready for the hunts...

I took Zero and Rocks sister ( I been calling her Rockette- HAHA) out last night.

1st drop- Cut the dogs toward a pretty nasty swamp where I had a dog moccasin bit last year... Zero opened followed by rockette, covered the track in short order and Zero located, then started blowing the top out. Rockette backed. Three coon in the tree. All of about 4 minutes used...

2nd- RECUT off the tree... Rockette must not have ever been PKC hunted, she kept wanting to go back to the tree, meanwhile Zero struck deeper in the swamp... ran the track fast.. Located and blew up right.. Rockette covered again..Walking in I seen a coon about two trees deeper and thought he had missed, but he had a coon up his tree too. Plus em up again, 2 coon seen.. about 10 minutes used.

3rd- RECUT off the tree - Dang Rockette liked the smell around the tree again... but is getting the point by this time.. Zero knows better and struck about 250 yards deeper in. Similar to first two, blistered the track, located and treed. Huge Cyprus tree, couldn't see the top- Circle- was on the edge of a Deep, deep black swamp hole.. made me uneasy, especially w/ the bubbles coming from the middle ( gator) didn't shine long. 20 minutes used

Figured we had about wore out our welcome in this big swamp, so loaded up and moved.

4th drop- Cut Zero and Rockette again, different swamp about 5 minutes driving from first. Rockettes collar quit for some reason, was wondering where she was when I seen her circle through. About that time Zero opened about 400 yards, smoked the track to about 600 , threw the locate where I know hes got him, and hammered down. Rockette was still MIA. I am lazy if the terrain allows, so I got in the truck and drove around to Zero. By the time I got there Rockette was covering. Rolled out a big boar coon that had plenty of fight left in him, Zero probably has a new scar or two. ( coon season is in all year long in Florida).

I had a ball. Called it a night. Made 4 trees, seen 6 coon in under an hour. Wild, no buckets. Zero was showing off because he thinks Rockette is pretty... HAHAH.. I think she's a pretty nice dog, but Zero was on fire last night.

Man Casey, you said you were going to stay in last night...lol. After we got off the phone, I decided to go ahead and go in spite of the rain. My little female made two trees, but I couldn't find either coon. Just too dang thick or maybe she missed, I don't know.
Keep Zero rolling. He sounds like he is clicking on all cylinders right now.

Another one of his male pups just sold on this board, said he was treeing coon.... Maybe we'll start seeing some show up in the winners circle.. He only has about 28 on the ground.

Not 100% sure, as they were bred prior to me buying poncho... Pretty sure the oldest are around 2 yrs old.

The fellow that owns suede said that his two Zero x Suede pups ran a house cat out around and behind his house and were hammering down on the tree...... Probably need to go ahead and cull those trashy little 12 week old pups....

Hunting any lately

A little... won $72 n $54 on Zero in October in 3 hunts, third one was a tie n flipped coin...had to work early next morning...lost coin flip

In the truck heading to Nebraska to deer hunt n building a camphouse... look like the clampets with metal trusses n galvalume on a ladder rack...pulling a , boat too..

My good hunting will start when I get back on Nov. 15.....

Good news that Alice is definitely bred....you did a good job on the timing and Ai ing her... it's 75 degrees here on the Iowa/ Nebraska line.. Not doing much hunting, but have built a 24x48 building in the last couple days, will have the roof finished tomorrow...sure missing my coonhunting

Casey I saw where someone asked you about Ponchos pups the 2 year old male that I talked to you about is doing well. When I called you I was a little worried about him but now that he has had some time in the woods he is really coming on strong. Sunday night we made 6 trees in 3 hours and he had the coon in all but one and it was probably there but the leaves are still on so that one was probably me. I'm thinking about putting him in a few hunts later this year or the first of next.

Good deal. I seen where Alice moved up to #1 current reproducing female..maybe zero will do his part in making something special in this litter. Got the pups on the ground with chilled semen and you AI-ing Alice.... hunted zero last night off a boat... boat motor broke down, zero treed at 750 yards... kept cutting him off the tree and ended up Treeing 3... lotta walking

ZERO X ALICE PUPS

Casey, those should be some real nice pups out of two fine, well bred hounds. The pup I got off Zero and Fannie is doing fine here on the river. She is a wound up little thing with lots of go to her and a loud, loud mouth on her, love it. Haven't started fooling with her on a drag or coon yet as they just turning 4 months old and she has lots of play in her. When the time is right I think she will get after them just fine. I staked her out yesterday and broke her to the lead, boy she didn't like that at all but she is fine with it today. Hope you and all your hounds are doing well and wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving.
