HIGH LIGHTS

Just got in tonight , the stars were shining when I left and just a few clouds here an there. Thought the rain was over for awhile but I was wrong the bottom fell out of it. But I was able to make 2 drops but did not even get a bark . Snooter hunted good an hard but I guess those coons were smarter then us ,just not moving well tonight. So we called it a night maybe better luck Monday night. Enuff Said!

HIGH LIGHTS

Went for awhile tonight an it was one of the best night that I could ask for . Took Blitz an Mable they are half brother an sister.I have had Mable out 3 times , she is only 5 months old an did a light switch come on tonight! First drop Blitz struck in at 225 yards and work down a holler an went up an over a ridge another 338 yards an look up but moved on down some . Mable struck in with him but could have been barking behind him but she stayed with him. Then I heard Blitz load up an waited to see if he was going to move or plant it there. He was treed an was not going anywhere , so I walk to him and he was treed on a nice white oak and when I first shined I spotted a coon right off the back . But when I squalled I found 3 more setting up high, so I rolled 1 out an Mable jumped on it like a 1 year old pup , now she like it.So after the coon was dead I hung it up an let Mable tree on it an called my partner ( my daddy) an let him hear this 5month old pup pour her heart out on this coon. After all this I loaded up and went to another place and cut both of them an Mable stayed with Blitz all the way. Blitz struck in at 543 yards up a bottom that was going straight up the mountain and just about where the holler started to go up he loads up an his HOOK! Went on to him and found the coon an Mable was all over the tree , so I rolled it out. She shows alot of promise but she is still very young but acts real mature for her age, but time will tell. Called it a night but will get back at it tomorrow night. Enuff Said!

HIGH LIGHTS

Me an Braxton went over to the WMA for awhile last night. Took Snooter an Bell , we got after 2 good tracks an 1 bad track that was cold as ice. Ended up making 3 dens an 2 slick trees , we have had some rain in last week or so but it was dry . I would have figure the springs an creeks would have flooded the bottoms some but they were dry. Called it a night around 3:45 am this morning. Get back at it Monday night for awhile.

Mable

Every week I get calls on folks wanting started dogs. All they need to do is get a well bred dog from a reproducer and give it a ride to the woods. Mable is out of Logan and Banjo is her Grandfather. Good luck with her.

HIGH LIGHTS

Well, I am on call this week until Friday morning at 7:00 a.m. and it stinks with this nice weather we are having. Tryed to hunt 4 nights before going on call but wasn't able to get it done. Working for the utility companies they seem to sometime plan your week out for you with out telling you about it. But I did manage to get in 2 nights before the call out started.

Took Blitz Wednesday night down to one of our WMA it reopen after a youth deer hunt that they had. Decided to make 1 drop only good or bad, its ruff and 5:00 comes early . Turn Blitz out in some flats that run along the edge of the mountain. He struck in at 225 yards an I could tell it was a bad track . He drifted another 300 yards up the mountain an work over several hollers just opening here an there. Look at the garmin an he was working the track straight up the mountain. Just knew it was going to be a long night for me but he started to work the track back down the mountain and was just opening here an there . He turned south a little an work it futher down the mountain . So I work my way to the truck to move down when I heard him load up and he was locked. Went up a old road bed and he was off of it about 650 yards down a holler . Made it to the tree an found the coon sitting in a fork of the magum white oak . Rolled it out and called it a night.

Thrusday night I took Snooter to the national forrest lands an made 2 turn outs. 1st drop she struck a old feed track and got it up running an made her way down a holler with a spring running through it . She was 387 yards when she loaded up an I made my way to her . She was treed in a nice hardwood tree with vines an other limbs touching the tops of each other but could not get it to look . 2nd drop I decided to load her up and move around 3 or 4 hollers an road hunt her , she needed some fat burned off. She struck RED HOT off the road and went to the worst side of the mountain that you could ask for. So I found a place to park an top out on a ridge and I could still hear her driving the track but did not like the dirrection she was going with it. Then things got quiet for a few minutes an I heard her locate an she loaded up treed! She was 987 yards deep an straight up an down , it took me hour an half to get to her and I'm talking RUFF! Finally made it to the tree an this coon went home to a den but he will live to have another race with someone that will have jello leggs the next morning, thats a PROMISE! Called it a night .

HIGH LIGHTS

Boy, this past week has been very busy for me at work an home !So Saturday night I was able to go and my nephew came over to stay the weekend with us and we took him on his first coon hunt and now he is talking dogs, he loved it. So we loaded up Blitz an Mable an went over to the WMA Crockford Piegon Mountain to see if we could have any luck or not. 1st drop Blitz an Mable left out hard but Mable went left handed from Blitz according to the garmin. Blitz strikes 643 yards up the side of the mountain and gets almost out of hearing from us . So we tighten up on him and we hear him locate an he rolled it over an loaded up! He was 387 yards of reaching the top of the mountain and it was a BAD HIKE to the top STRAIGHT UP! Just about half way to Blitz , Mable shows up behind us an goes into Blitz. Made it to him an it was a nice big den . Down hill from here , so about half way toward the truck I turned Blitz a loose . He strikes in at 405 yards working the track down an along the side of the mountain. Then we hear Mable strike an she is like glue with Blitz . Mable is getting better ever time she is out for her age.We hear Blitz loads up and we hear Mable look up with him. We make it to the tree an I found the coon , so I tell Braxton to shoot it out but don't kill it either let it have a little of fight in it. Well it came out with alot of fight an Mable dove right in on the old boar coon . Thought this might scare her but she hung in on him like a pitbull an never back out of him. After all this we called it a night an if things go right be back at tomorrow night 3:45 am.

Went by myself lastnight Braxton works 2nd shift now. Took Snooter an Mable , 1st drop Snooter struck up a slew and work it pretty good hit a tree here an there and finally loaded up an treed but could not find it , "felt like she missed it". Mable showed alot of independence last night with Snooter. Found a oppusum sitting up a dogwood tree an watch Mable try to figure out where it was but felt like it had been sitting up for awhile. She never could get it straighten out, Snooter struck an ran something wrong and we had to go to the wood shed! Loaded both of them up an moved down the road an made a drop . Snooter struck 130 yards out in front of the truck an work it for another 200 yards or so an loaded up with the meat . Mable went to her . Made my way to her an found the coon an rolled it out to both of them an called it a night .

HIGH LIGHTS

First of all I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and going to have a Happy New Years ! I have been Blessed in so many ways an I am Very Thankful for it and thes dogs are some of my Blessing and its been Nice to have some good ones .

Been getting after thes coons pretty hard an keeping the young ones in the woods to seeif they will make it or not an I like what I see so far but there's a long road ahead of us, so time will tell.Purchased half interested in Johnny Reb Christmas Eve with my daddy. He is a full brother to Blitz ,he is just 11 months old and is green as a gourd. So between Mable an Reb I have had my hands full. But Reb is starting to run some with the other dogs an learning real quick. Mable is just getting stronger an stronger everytime she goes to the woods, she's only 7 months old. Well went on a short hunt tonight , had a good friend of mine call me this morning an said he trap a boar coon thats been eating his cat food . So I went got it an decided to solo Mable an Reb to see if they could tree it with out any help from Blitz or Snooter. Went over to a farm that has a soybean field on it that it is about 500 yards to the north an 500 yards to the south before it touches any trees an about the same east to west. Figure he would lay a good track for them to run. Gave him a 20 minute head start an cut the 2 pups a loose an they caught him on the ground just before he got to the tree lines but he manage to get away an run down a spring an went up and both pups LOCK DOWN on him. Made my way to them an found the coon an realize I left the gun at the truck an walk back to the truck about 20 minutes an Mable an Reb never mised a beat , they treed there hearts out. Called it a night since there is only 2 days left in our deer season and the woods will be full in the morning but we left on a good note and we will get after them tommorrow night.

Enuff Said!

Happy New Year

Michael,
Got your letter, Thank You. Biggest thing I am going to miss when Logan stops reproducing pups are these great pup reports. We have been blessed with a genuine reproducing coonhound in Logan and he has reproduced balanced coonhounds out of just about every female he has been bred to. I have a pair here at home that I am looking forward to working with when they are ready. Logan has not had alot of pups as not alot of folks bred to him like some of the other males out there but at least a good number of the pups have got into the hands of hunters, pleasure and competition. Good Luck in the upcoming year.
Scott
