Dave, they had a coon. (Big red oak w leaves left).
Have treed 3 coon over 30# in the past week.
The biggest was 35.3 #which is a record for me.
Didnt get a track going until Rocky was out to 800yds on the garmin.
Aint alot moving, I dont think till about 8pm r so. (16 degrees)
We cut em loose about 645 and a bally hoo or two but nothing to move until after 8.
Track was only about 100 yds long but was hot.

I haven't been out since Thursday before deer season, but Daryl turned loose one night and said he didn't get a bark.. so I havn't been to gung ho on turning a dog loose until I here from someone that there down and moving again.

On the way home last nite had one cross the road headin into the state park ground.....first coon I saw cross the road in 3 months.....gotta believe the fly bait ing thing has taken a toll

Last night I hunted Dot and Tramp. Dot hasn't been turned loose since September, and was just pulled off pups. I turned them loose at 6pm. Struck a track and ran it 20 yds to tree. Saw him walking in lookin out a hole. Next dump Dot went up a leaner and into the tree that tree leaned into, about 30' high. Said my goodbyes as I never dreamt she was gonna survive. She fell out and never made a sound. Forest floor was covered with heavy leaves with a couple inchea of powder on them. THANK GOD!! Next dump they hunted out for a half hour and came back never making a peep. Went home.

Early on people around here were getting $40 tops, but I got.$32 tops on Tuesday night. I sold 16 with a couple kits in there. I don't purposely shoot them, but it happens on ocassion, and if I shoot it out I'll skin it. I still averaged $23.43. I was very pleased with that. Too bad it has every Tom, Dick, and Harry.calling to buy a dog that will do it all for a couple hundred bucks.

When I sold hides there were several people standing there holding 2-3 whole coon that had been thrown in the freezer that way. Kinda looked like roadkill pick ups. Was nice to see them only get $3 for them. I like feeling rewarded for bringing in quality, well cared for, legally harvested coon.

Had cabin fever, so after 6 inches of snow and the temp hanging around 20 degrees, I decided to put it in 4wd and head out around 9pm. Managed to see a coon in an old road tube that was upright in a bulldozer pile, other than that, no other coon seen on a few trees that were made.

Finally had a decent night of hunting, but then I see not as good of a night as Jay had.

My dogs have been struggling to get a track going since the temps have dropped, what tracks they do find are VERY short. Most trees made are struck and treed in the same bark, and of course the trees look like swiss cheese. Been seeing coon in them when I can get a camera in the hole, or my eyeball so that's just as good as seeing one on a limb for me.

Tonight they fell treed with no track bark on a hollow tree that was broke off 10 ft up. There was a small split all the way up, and I could see at least 2 coon in there at about eye level. Tramp and Dot were both in beaver mode so I figured there had to be one close to their sniffers. Next place we went to the dogs finally took a track farther than 50 feet, but ended up in a bulldozer pile. Walked them away, they went back to the bulldozer pile, but past it this time. They pushed a track to a coon hotel. Tree was very impressive in size, so I snapped a pic. Wish I had a pic of some coon, but I guess they'll be there for next time...

With the weather the way it is, I've been happy. I go hunting cuz I love hunting, even though I know at best I'll be looking at dens. I get a kick out of my dogs finding a den with no tracks going to or from it and being able to find a ball of fur in it...

This weekend should be good. Last night it was 10 degrees here a stone's throw from Illinois, and coon were out gettin food n water. Cpl nights of -17 kept um hunkered down.
