Just got in from hunting Patch and Hope tonight

Opening night and these two hounds did a fantastic job. Patch at 7.5 years old is just clicking like a 2 year old. He was treed in over 700 yards and it sounded like he was right next to me. He is doing a spectacular job in putting those ringtails on a limb track speed to no end and one hell of a loud locate to a loud bawl chop. Coonhunting great when you have hounds like this. Good hunting Joe

hunting last night

While coon hunting last night, Patch was out running a coon about 400 yard on the Garmin when he started locating on tree the woods lite up with coyote's. I hurried up and went to him getting there just in time as the coyotes were within a hundred yard yipping and barking. When I first heard them, I heard what sounded like a deep owl hoot which was actually a deep howl from the leader of the pack. The next thing I know they were everywhere. This is the closes they have every come to me and the dogs in this area.

Does anyone have any suggestion on how to deal with these coyote's this is my first encounter this year with them but they seem to be coming an issue now around the area.

Joe

Coyotes

Joe,
Shoot every coyote you see... I had them come in on my little female off Patch and Sue when she was starting, now she refuses to hunt out far.

I was told to run a blinking light on my dogs to keep the coyotes away.

That's what I been doing but the night they came in on Patch and I it seemed as if they didn't care. They were nasty that night. I'm being told that down here there are some big coyotes that are 50 pounds or better. Joe

Coyotes

The eastern coyotes are bigger and they are really becoming a problem every where because they don't have any natural predators and they are so close to populated areas that they loose their fear of us. I'll kill a coyote every chance I get.

Took Patch out lastnight

He opened at about 250 yards on a cold track. He took the track drifted it out a few hundred yards at which time he turn up the heat on the track. He treed in fairly deep on a big oak. After knocking that coon out the sky's open up with rain ending the night. We have had some really nice nights to coon hunt this fall, good hunting Joe.
