Yes Clyde, he steady covers ground. He averages 7-8 mph on the GPS when he is hunting for a track.

Some Pics From Tonights Hunt
Wild Thing Jane (Bodacious x Hemi)
Ran this one about 380 yards before putting it in the side of a creek bank. She was in waist deep water, but still choppin them off every breath. She made me come down there and get her.
Echo IV got in there 7/10 of a mile, got struck and then treed on the side of a 25 foot creek bank with the meat.

how old is Echo IV?
Just got in from hunting Echo IV with a couple of real nice Walker dogs. Cast all three dogs together and it wasn't long before Echo peeled off by himself. He got in about 1000 yds opposite of the other two dogs and worked up a bad track through some rough country. He didn't look as good doing it as usual, but he is just a dog and has some off nights too. He did get treed with the meat in the end. I felt pretty good since the two Walkers never did get a track going or get treed, and ended up coming back in to the truck. Tracks are scarce right now for sure.
We are just hunting him hard and trying to get his consistency back. That's about all we can do. He will go big hunting and get treed somewhere. He is not scared of the dark, or to be by himself.

I took our Wild Thing Jane (Bo x Hemi) female out for a whirl Saturday night. A thunderstorm blew in after I turned loose. She hunted out about 900 yards and got struck. (The fellows that live in thick coon need to be thankful) The lighting was striking fairly close at this point so I elected to sit it out in the truck. I had to watch her on the Garmin. The Garmin showed her treed but I wasn’t leaving the truck with the lightening striking so close. An hour later the storm had cleared out and I headed to her. She didn’t sound right treeing as I walked in. She would chop for a few seconds then shut up for a few seconds and let out a yelp every once in a while. She is normally a steady chop mouth tree dog. I noticed she was getting buzzed by several bees when I got to the tree and I got stung a time or two getting her leashed up. I tied her back to a large vine and got a couple of bees off her. I shined the tree and found the coon. The coon was in the top of a large oak tree in a limb that extended away from the trunk. I figured I shoot it out to her since she had held the tree for over an hour while getting pelted by bees. I figured the coon would fall far enough away from the tree it wouldn’t disturb the bees. This is the same time where the little voice in my head said “Hey stupid, this probably isn’t a good idea.” but I paid it no attention and proceeded to shoot the coon out. I’m not sure if the coon hitting branches on the way down or her yanking on the vine to get to the coon got the bees fired up but boy that is when the fireworks started. She and I got lit up. Needless to say I will never do that again. lol She started acting pretty sick on the way back to the truck but two days later she’s back to doing her job….treeing coon. She made short work of a track last night and had the meat hanging. I can't wait to see how the pups out of her and Echo IV turn out.

Great post. I have a cat hunting buddy down at Dilley, TX that is having trouble with the killer bees. They are extremely aggressive and will drive his dogs off the tree and all the way back to the truck. There have been several fatalities that were blamed on the bees. Most cases it was a dozer operator, pushing brush.
Good luck with the pups.
Adios,
Gary
bees!!

Gary... I don't believe they were killer bees but I will say they did an outstanding job pretending to be.
Tommy... I hate to hear that one bad night kept her from going again. My daughter use to go with me quite a bit but that has really slowed down now that she is older. I have to guilt her into going now. Nothing like boys and high school... lol
I believe it speaks volumes about a hounds ancestors for one to hold that kind of pressure. I was ready to get out of there after the first few stings. I have no idea how she stayed as long as she did.
