Finally got me feet wet again. Sounder and I went for a hunt and what a tough night. Ran a coon for almost 2 hours in and out of corn and beans. Hell he crossed the road 3 times toward water then back in the corn. It was fun seeing that dog try to catch tricky Ricky. He finally got him treed in a small tree. I could have shook him out but I didn't. I enjoy a race like that for sure.

Been out three nights in a row which is a record for me these days. I think I will make it a forth tonight. Hmm just maybe I can get the coonhunting bug back I hope.

I went out last night with Charlie Wyatt. We manage to put two tree with five coons total. With this dry ground I'm not getting much track just bang treed.

However Sounder and Magic both seem to be able to track fine in the dry weather.
Maggie is tight so I don't get much track with her yet but I'm still working on that.
My dogs faces are raw so they will get a two day break with I chase a little myself. I will be back at it Sunday night.

Lighting and Thunder Maggies says dad I'm not hunting in this crap. I can't say I blame her so we came home. I could break her to hunt in it or get use to it but I don't want to so I'm not going to push the dog to do it. A early night tonight

hunted tonight

Took Maggie and Magic
First track Magic ran but Maggie was with him according to the garmin. He treed on a huge cotton wood it was tough to see so not sure if he had him or not. Maggie didn't tree.
Second turn they went 850 yards and garmin showed both treed. I got close enough to hear Magic but no Maggie Later joined in and they had a den tree. Headed to the house. Maggie is tight on the ground but will open from time to time. This is going to take some getting use to for me. She treed decent to fair. I want to see her explode on a tree like I was told she can and will do. Time will tell.
Trying to add something new. If she don't work I'll try something else.

Good night last night

Charlie Wyatt and I hunted. We had his Image dog, I had Maggie and he hunted a young Rambler male.
We got one up out of a cornfield and Maggie really blows up when she is right. Very impressed with her tree style and how hard she trees. She opened good on the hot track and has a great locate.
I sure Image it the tree first. The Rambler male came in and we had the meat.
Next drop dogs struck a bad track. Image got treed. Maggie was there but didn't start treeing till we were closer. Image had the coon.
It jumped out and the race was on. Good listening to hounds push a track Image ended up treed by the road with a litter. Maggie was doing her own thing in the huge corn and bean field. I believe the caught it on the ground about 600 yards in but not sure.
All in all the light is starting to shine. So I'm smiling a little better every day.

Hunted tonight

First turn Maggie went in struck and treed about 600 yards but didn't stick for some reason. Dogs trailed around and try to hit another tree but still didn't stick. Maggie went about 300 yard East and just fell treed had the meat. Jazz came over and backed her.

Next drop Jazz Charlies Grand Nite female and Maggie just fell treed about 500 yards down the road and had the meat

Crook female young dog was at the tree and stayed out with the dogs.

I telling you a light bulb is shinning and I hope it keep getting brighter.
So far every time she has treed and stayed a coon has been seen.
Oh one den tree

I'm very picky about females because I don't like hunting them and have never tried to finish one to Grand but if Maggie continues to do what I see. I just might push her all the way through. I'm dropping pounds off her and she is able to handle the hunting and treeing better every night.

Time will tell.

Hank Taber and I hunted last night

Tracking was tough and coons didn't move where we were.

First Dump just fell treed Maggie and Slug. No coon seen.

Second drop Slug struck old bad track. Maggie was tight. Both dogs treed in a bushy viney mess. It was a maybe tree.

Third drop old back track Slug worked well and Maggie was tight they treed in a dozer deck. Time to head home.

Had a fun hunt just nothing good to report.

First drop Oneils Nite ch female split. Maggie and Speed Chris Bakers walker when left and blew up on a tree. Not sure what happend but they left out through the corn. Maggie eventually covered the walker female and the coon was seen. Speed trailed around and hit a few other trees but didn't stick. I sent Maggie into help him but they got nothing done. She is tight on a colder tracks so I have no clue.
Next drop sent just the two down a creek ditch Speed just treed. He missed the coon about 10 yards away. Maggie didn't honor him we came home.
Back at it tonight. Hopefully a better night for our two dogs.

Oneil's female looked good.

Chris Baker had his male walker Speed and I took Maggie. 1.5 miles later treed with the meat. Watch them on the garmin the went straight down the dry creek bed. Both dogs just as we pulled around in the truck were locating the tree. Speed did hit tree first. What a nice treedog he is and when you put a lead on him he is psyco and radical but not mean. Maggie just stood right up on the wood and treed very nicely. Speed jumps and works the treee good but no problem.
Next drop didn't go so well. Stuck in a cornfield then I believe the ran the coon in a hole. They located and that was it. Speed hit a track not sure what he was doing but after a long while or working it he got a buzz. Maggie didn't say on word but I believe she was following along. Got in at midnight.
At it again tonight.

Hunted last night

Mike Oneil had a direct son to Rat Attack 8yrs Chris Baker had Speed off Tequella Sun Rise I hunted Maggie.

We cut loose Speen went straight about 600 yards

Maggie and Rat went 350 yard right handed and just treed. Both dogs are a little tight in the woods. Actually both opened once on the ground before getting hooked. We walked into to them they had the meat.
Speed treed about 800 yards in a left. Spent the rest of the evenng gathering him up. I got home at 1 am. Speed did finally get hooked again and had his coon. Big section of woods. We didn't turn Maggie and Ratt back in.
Oh well she will be ready tonight to put her big girl pants on and go alone and see how she fairs. She is a nice treedog.

Not sure if Sounder got Heather bred or not. He was not interested in her today. He was left in the pen over night last week so maybe he did or maybe he didn't. Nothing else next Feb or March we will try it again.

Hunted alone with Maggie

She hunted out some but not quite ready for her big girl pants yet. She climbed a tree and fell out. Lucky it was about 7 feet up. She had the coon but was done after she fell. Oh well life has it's ups and downs.

Good hunt last night

I took Maggie, Daniel Morton had Witch off Speed and Lace and Chris Baker had his walker he calls Speed.
First dump dogs struck quick and down the creek bed they went about 800 yard and bang the blew up on tree. Not sure who treed first. Had two coons up that tree,

Second drop dogs struck in and the had their work cut out for them. Dogs worked hard and finally got the coon up and running and away they went. The went under a bridge and about 900 yards total later we pulled around to get closer. Rolled down the window in time to hear the Walker Speed hit tree with Maggie and Witch right there and they had the meat again. It was 11:30 time to head home after a good night.
Maggie did well and tree real hard so every night she is getter her feet underneath her. So far so good.

Thanks Daniel for taking us hunting. Your Witch female is a good one. Watson Smoky Mt Speed and Hank Taber's Lace female was a good cross. She is going to win a lot in the hunts.

Elmo sounds like you boys had a good hunt. Iam sure whitchy and maggie will both do their share of winning. I even hope Chris does some winning as long as I dont draw him ha ha.

down in Sedalia for 3 weeks now. It sounds like she has found
a place for us to buy. It wont be long and you will be able to
hunt with Timber and Guinea Sue a long with Jay Hawk and
Holly. I will have to find some places to hunt but I am ready.
