Should be a good night. I think most of the recent nights have been "good". I just need to do a better job at getting out closer to sunset than sunrise.

We sold fur today. Averaged in the ball park of what everyone else has been getting ($12-16).
A couple nights ago I went out and got 3 coon. When I was skinning them it seemed to me they were a little "springy". Fur looked more like Feb-March coon (which I don't kill). My Dad was out the same night and got 1 the same way.
Even average sized decent coon, but the fur buyer picked them out too and gave us $2 for them. He said the same thing, for the last week he's seeing some coon come in that are looking "springy". Also said he's preparing to buy coon cheap and the market was shaky and has inventory is filling up, the price he'll pay is coming down.
I was really hoping with the lack of snow and decent weather to put some more in the freezer but I'm not going to dent any more of the local coon population at the risk of getting $2 coon. They can stay in the tree and I'll run them with pups in the spring or score them in a nite hunt.
Had a pretty good season though. Warm temps and no snow made for some extra nights of good hunting. I'll keep on hunting until the real winter gets here but I'll be pretty selective on what comes out of the trees.

Trying to take advantage of this weather before it changes it's mind. Was in the 40s during the day yesterday and lowest I saw on my truck was 31 as I was heading home for the night. Saw 5 coon total, gave the dogs 3. Back at it tonight.....

LOL Yeah he is. Thats our grandson Andres' other Grandpa. We were all out together when JJ got on a runner. So they all got in the truck and went back up to the house while I went after her. We were up in the hills of richland county. By the time I got back he was in his long johns cooking a burger on the stove and Andre was on about his 20th oreol cookie. Surprised I could get him to stand still long enough to get a pic. He's still eating one in the pic. Between the long johns and the cookie monster, we couldn't stop laughing.
How you been?
Scott

got home tonight around 3-3:30. I switched vehicles and loaded up the dogs, unfortunately I was thinking about the fact that I had just seen a coon cross the road a few miles back near one of my new spots that I hadn't hunted yet and wanted to get to the woods, so I didn't take my camera lol

I only made one drop but had a heck of a night! took 3 dogs (2 tracking collars) and cut them all into a "light swamp" and wanted to test my dpgs to see how TRUELY independent they are by cutting them in when another dog is trailing so I had cut Ash out and about 10 minutes in she struck and before I had time to get Pabst and Tweak out of the car (and put Tweak back in) she had already treed. I cut Pabst in behind her and kinda tracked him for a little while with the tracker (beep beep box so it's a little more difficult to pin point if he we straight to her. After a few minutes he struck in about the same place she did, but went the other way. I thought he was back tracking and wanted to see how long it took him to figure it out so I waited for about 5 minutes before I decided what I was going to do about it. After a little bit of listening to him, the track heated up so I cut Tweak into the hardwoods, not even 100 yds out and she struck. I walked back to my car to get leashs, knifes, gun and so on... Just about ready to walk to Ash and Pabst locates... I go tie Ash up cuz she has prolly been treed for 20+ minutes or so, gave it to her, walk to Pabst, lucky for me, the car was right on the walk so I didn't have to carry the coon all around the woods. I went and tied Pabst up, lightly shined the tree, see the coon so I pet him up and walked back to skin Ash's coon. As I am skinning the coon, I hear Tweak sound like she's ready to load up, hear her locate and tree. Threw that hide in the trunk and decide if I should let Pabst tree a little more or go to him, Tweak is closer, straight ahead and Pabst is already tied up and to the left... Walk to Tweak, tie her up, go to Pabst cuz he had to have been treeing for 30 mins by now, go to him, see that he has 2 up the tree instead of just the one I had originally seen. I gave him one, tie him up as I skin the coon cuz I want to get out of there anyway, I unclip him as I walk to Tweak wish Pabst behind. I get about 75 feet from Tweak's tree and there is a wheeler trail, I tie Pabst up there and go to shine Tweak's tree. I'm shining hers, see a den hole and a set of eyes in there. I keep checking the outside, and find two on the outside too! I gave her both of them.

all in all I think it was a good hour and a half or two hours.

I just wish I had pics, Boy Pabst looked good up on that tree. I had never liked hunting young dogs until I started hunting Pabst, man it sure is something else when you watch a pup go from having to 100% rely on you or it's mother to being 14 months old and being able to go do it all on their own. Don't get my wrong he still makes stupid mistakes, he is still a dog but between him and Tweak, I can't wait to go to the woods, and on top of it Ash and Tweak have been laid up for 3 weeks due to being in heat, Pabst was hunted twice while they were in heat and of course was running around the house whining because he could smell them but couldn't get to them.

I didnt get any pics in the woods but I have some from after we got home lol
Ash, the old lady had a rough night haha

Tweak, who apparently thinks she's a person

Pabst in his "corner" with his toy and box, not even joking, he puts them in the corner between two plants before he will go outside, the little stuffed puppy inside the box and drags them to where he is sleeping at night.
