Dan....

i have had a few cur dogs in my time, don't really know what kind they were (to me they were just curs)..... i had 1 named bandit that looked a almost identical to the one in your picture..... the 1 in the pic looks pretty big, mine was quiet a bit smaller than yours.... he was a heck of a squirell dog and he was meaner than crap.... if a stranger walked up to the back of my truck & looked at him, he'd come alive & you'd think he was going to tear the door off my box... as far as i know it was only toward people. i don't remember ever seeing him act mean toward dogs...

November sounds alot better than now...... 99 hear tonight at 8pm.... Alot of state land will be open then and we will have plenty of hunting. My female supposed to be in heat sometime in november... If she is we will just hunt a cur all night lol..... Looking forward to it...

For The Record...

For the record... I have yet to have even one cur that was mean in any hunting situation. I've owned right around 30 different curs out of several breeds and mulitple bloodlines within each breed.

ringtail, I always thought dogs were pretty good judges of character. Could it of had anything to do with the person approaching the box??

With a kennel FULL of treeing CURS!! ?

LOL I got beat by a bluetick tonight.So how much worse can it be lol!!!!! Dang bluedog.. I had 225 right off the bat... Bluedog split and had 200... Cut em again.. I get first strike again and ol blue comes treed 125 and mine covers for 75... Get to tree and blue is gone.. Then I look up and tree is dead as a hammer no leaves anywhere and no holes. Minus me 175... Blue opens cut mine and strike in for 50.. Blue trees again.This time I dont tree and they are in a hole... Here I am at 50 and blue with 75... Cut again and blue strikes first.. Mine opens once but dont strike her.Start the 8 on blue.. Its at 6 min when I had to strike lol.... Mine ran one a good ways.Got deep and came treed as time was running out.. I figure I got it.Bluedog aint been heard of.. Then we cant find the coon dern it. Tree had trees going everywhere in it and out of it.SO I LOST!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read the post on this board about "what to look for in a perfect hound". This pretty much explains why more and more people want to hunt leopard curs. I think most hunters are tired of babbling idiots that want to open out of the box, tree slick most of the time and go a couple of miles to do it. If these are the dogs that you like keep enjoying them. I have hunted leopard curs for a long time and don't think that I will ever change back to a hound. I still have to work of a morning and can't wait half the night on a dog and I don't want to walk the extra miles to a dog that shoots out of the truck in a straight like to get alone and get treed. These leopards should be hunted with the hounds in competition. They are not going to beat up on the hounds, but they will win their share and the hound guys will remember what it was like to hunt with just a coon dog instead of a competition dog. DanN

i dont know how good the lepord will do but i know i have a bear dog that would make grnite easy (aslong he dont strike a bear 1st...)

i decided that "no i don't think leopard curs should be hunted with hounds." if your breed ass will go to ukc & get them changed from curs to hounds then fine, come aboard

Odd....

Ringtail, I think that is an odd way to look at the Leopards. While I agree that getting the ok to let the Leopards go with the other hounds will cause some folks to breed some Leopards for competition, but so what. That does not mean that every breeder will start breeding for competition. I could expand on this but your smart enough to figure out where I'm going with this point.

Wether or not a Leopard will win the world hunt the first year they get in is of no real value to the debate as to wether or not they should be allowed the chance to compete for it.

Based soley on the merits of the breed...they should already be there.

Furthermore...most every year, the winner gets the title by comming in with plus points and that means coon.

I have never in my life seen so many slick trees as when, this spring, I made it a point to hunt with as many walkers and blueticks as I could. Within four hunts, I had been to more slick trees than I had raising and training every pup and litter of pups that I've ever owned. Nothing wins so consitently as a good run of plus points.

What ever you feel are the chances that a Leopard will win the UKC World Hunt, Leopards most certainly deserve to get a shot each and every year. You can't logically say that Leopards should not be able to hunt with the rest of the hounds based soley on the fact that they "might not" win. If that were a valid point you might as well restrict the hunt to Walkers only because they have the best chance of winning......now that sounds silly don't it.

Let em all in. The good ones will win and the poor ones will walk away with excuses. I see absolutely nothing changing in the comp hunt world by opening the field and giving other tree dogs a chance to be seen and competed.

i dont know but i have curs that i bear hunt that have cold nosies and are very fast. i would have to make there nosies hotter but other then that im good.(i have some that have hot nosies but most are cold for bear hunting).

anyone know who i need to contact to talk to about letting the lepords in i will start a petition and i know i can get all kind of people to sign it to get it changed!!! all this talk has me wondering if it can happen a lep. win the world???

But could the Lepords be Classified, as a Hound?
It would be neat, to have Seven Breeds of Registered Coonhounds.

Richard, All it takes is a name change for the leoaprds and it can be done easily. I have already checked that part of it out. I also think the leopards will be able to compete with the hounds!

I know little to nothing about Leopard Curs, but I've been interested in them and everyone I ask about (houndsmen and Cur men) all say the same thing to me..... they're pretty nice dogs, but they're more hound then cur.
