It doesn't mean the dog is better than a non-titled dog, it just means the dog has been put out there in the public eye, it's performance is a matter of public record and the dog met the standard as opposed to a non-titled dog who performs in private with other dogs the owner can choose. The dogs owner can tell everyone how great the dog is, he hasn't bothered to prove the dog in public or against any standard. That is the difference.

That about says it all right there and 4 years later, I'm not seeing a better response on here.

Nothing against a title.

that's funny,i've hunted with a few titled hounds and i've yet too be "impressed".a good coon dog is a good coon dog.we call obama a president, but where's the proof?just sayin!

yea that about says it all. what its missing is the part about some dogs slipping through and getting titles that don't make the standard.
titles don't make them better dogs, but titles don't prove it is the real deal either. many ways dogs come out on top in nite hunts without it being the real winner.
the bigger picture i see in that statement is in the hunter not the dogs.
a comp hunter wants or needs to prove his dog to everyone else. a pleasure hunter just has to prove it to his self.

But plesure hunters want or need to justify themselves on a ukc msg board!

to end it all.....

why not have the big hunts with the leaves off? i never could understand that? things would be different if they did.

Couldnt agree more!!!! I hate how DOGS are classified hide dogs,co.p dogs and plesure dogs,A COONDOG IS A COONDOG! Its the hunter that should be classified!

?

50% +/- accurate and a grnitech is not a coondog.

can not tree its own coon{alone}but a grnitech, is not a coondog.

trees "coon" with leaves on,but for some odd reason there not there when leaves are off but is still a grnitech...is not a coondog.

my dog is a coondog {comp or pleasure}.has made quit a few titled dogs that are the most blowed up on here look bad plenty of times.{whiteand blue}

i'm not a hide hunter, i'm a real live coonhunter that hunts 4-7 nights a week. and when i go to a hunt, myself and my dog is ready. i pleasure hunt everything that is tied up in my back yard. if i have one that i pleasure hunt, it's good enough to enter in any hunt.

And ive seen many grand nites make plesure, hide dogs look stupid with leaves on and off!

That is probubly true that there are better dogs out there but untill they compete they will never know if they are better or not. All the title means is they were hunting better on the nights they won than the other dogs and if they have consistantly they are better dog than most in the comps.
The titlse are the only way the rest of the world can judge your dog becouse we can't go hunting with them all.
We can look in the back of COONHOUND and see what dog is produceing winners and that is were I would pic a stud dog for my gyp. Then if I could I would go hunt with it to see if it is the style of hunter I want and if it is strong were mine is week.

I agree

WE USED TO DEFINE HIDE DOGS LIKE THIS; DOGS THAT ARE STILL MOUTH OR SEMI SILENT ON TRACK THAT TREES RACCOONS. SOMETIMES THE HIDE DOGS MADE ONE OR TWO TREE BARKS THEN SHUT UP, I'VE SEEN MANY OF THEM WEAR BELLS ON THEIR COLLARS AND WHEN THEY JACKED THE TREE YOU COULD HEAR THE BELL. MOST OF THE HIDE DOGS WERE ELKHOUNDS, TERRIERS, CURS, SHEPPARDS MIXED WITH SOMETHING. I NEVER SEEN A PURE BRED COONHOUND AS A HIDE DOG. THESE HIDE DOGS BACK IN THE DAY WHEN HIDES WERE WORTH CARRYING OUT THEY WOULD KILL OVER 500 COON IN A SEASON. I KNEW A GUY THAT HAD SOMETHING THAT WAS MIXED AND IT WORE A BELL AROUND HIS COLLAR AND WHEN HE WAS TREED HE WOULD MAKE ONE BARK AND THEN START JUMPING AT THE TREE AND THE OWNER WOULD FOLLOW THE BELL. A HIDEDOG DOESNT HUNT OUT OF HEARING, THEY HUNT CLOSE AND THEY DONT GET AWAY FROM YOU. THIS GUY THAT I'M TALKING ABOUT WOULD HUNT THIS DOG IN THE METRO PARKS IN THE CLEVELAND,OHIO SUBURBS ALONG THE TURNPIKE, RT. 77 AND 71 AND KILL 800 OR 900 COON PER SEASON.
