Saturday Morning Squirrel Hunt

Me and Wade and Windy on a Saturday morning Squirrel hunt. We had a great time. We got eight Friday evening and thirteen Saturday morning. It was cloudy for both hunts and the squirrels were not stiring like they should have been, but we had a lot of fun. Windy treed several more, but a few of them made it to holes and 2 or 3 just got a way.

Bill, it sure is fun when the kids get to come home. When wade is here we are always in the woods hunting Squirrels, Ducks, Rabbits, coons or on the river catching catfish.

Gin 11

Steve, look what I got in that top picture. I know it looks like a white coon, but I'll have to tell the truth about it. It's a big yellow Tom Cat. I have seen him around here before. I have a couple of female cats so he comes visiting from time to time. I don't know if he belongs to anyone around here or not. I been seeing him around for the past couple of years. He always fat and healthy, so he either belongs to some one or he is a good hunter. He was over in the swamp so I guess he was out hunting tonight. He put up a pretty good race, and when I walked in and seen that big pine tree, I just knew she had her a coon. He was layed out on the first limb about 30 feet up, Looked like he wasn't worried about anything. We left Tom up the tree to go on with his hunting. I didn't do anything to Gin, but if she does it again we will have to come to an understanding about the cats. I don't know why she bothered the cat as I have 3 of them running around the yard. Just another nite in the life of a coonhunter I guess.

CAT

When I first saw that picture I thought she had treed you a Cinnamon Colored Coon Mr. Jack. He looks like a pretty good sized Cat and I would imagine would put up a heck of a fight if cornered. Me and Bo went down river last night trying to tree that White one but just another regular Coon. You know your getting spoiled when your disappointed that when they tree it's just another Regular Coon and not the White One, lol! Need to buy me a Slick Tree'er and follow for a few nights so I appreciate Bo and Bob a little more!

Those Squirrel Hunting pictures are nice! I know yaw had a lot of fun watching Windy do her thing. Need to bring her with us to Mr. Ed's next year and hunt her in those open woods. Give me a holler and we will make a round before the season ends. I'm feeling pretty limber so I should be able to keep up with you, Take Care.

Sheba 11

Posted by Misty river on 02-24-2017 06:41 AM:

Sheba 11

Took Sheba 11 out for a run tonight. We went down the river aways. Turned her off an ole woods road into an oak flat. She went in about 150 yrds and struck a cold track and started working it. She moved it on in another 200 yrds and the track started getting better. She moved it on in another 300 yrds and locked up treed. I was not familiar with this area so I started looking for a way to get closer. I followed the road across a cutover and hit a firelane going up the otherside. I came to the corner and turned left. The Garmin said I was getting closer. When I got to where I was even with her I stopped the 4-wheeler and I could see an opening in the woods between me and her.I was about 75 yrds from her. I walked over to see what the opening was and it was a slough and when my light hit the water I saw several sets of eyes looking back at me. I could see 4 Alligators looking at me. They looked to be about 4 feet long. I didn't see any big ones, but I knew that they were some where close by. I looked to make sure Sheba was not treed at the waters edge. She was treed about 25 yrds out on the other side and I could see the coon. There was an alumiunum boat there on the bank that looked like it had been there a long time. I thought about crossing over in it, but I didn't really want to get out there amongst those gaters unless I just had to. I went on down to the end of the firelane and walked around the end of the slough and came back down the other side to where she was treed. She was treed up a Gum tree and the coon a big boar was sitting right in the top. The next drop she struck a working track and moved it on in another 300 yrds and treed. I got to within about 75 yrds of her and walked on in. She was treed up a medium sized hardwood tree with a lot of hedge bushes around it.The hedge bushes wwere thick in there for a ways and I think the coon went up the tree and hit the top of the hedge bushes and just kept on going. We went on down the swamp aways and turned loose again. She went in 200 yrds and struck another working track, moved it on in another 300 yrds and locked up treed.I got to within about 100 yrds of her and walked on in to her and she was treed up a hugh oak. I found him pretty quick sitting in a fork about half way up. The next drop she went in about 200 yrds and never opened on the ground. She just starte treeing like she didn't really believe it was there. I walked in to her and she was right it was slick. I made one more drop and she made a circle down the creek and back up the creek and never got a bark. She crossed down the road from me and was fixing to check out the other side and I called her in and we called it a night.

Congratulations Justin and Ellie-Jeremy and Bell

Jeremy and Justin and I loaded up Bell, Ellie and Sheba and Traveled up to the Dixie Nation Championship in Forest, Ms. last night. Jeremy Won Second place in the hunt Friday night and finished Bell to Nite Ch.. He entered her in the bench show yesterday and won class and breed and this finished Bell to a champion, so she is now a Dual Ch. She finished to Nite Ch. With a second place Friday night. This finished her to Nite Ch. with two 1st place wins and a 2nd place win. Justin Won another 1st place win with Ellie last night and this win finished Ellie to a Nite Ch. with three 1st place wins. Ellie is a young female out of Kenny Hulse's Traveler dog and I don't remember the female she is out of, and Bell is a young female out of Shadow and Gin.
Congratulations to these guys with their fine Bluetick Females. I'll try to get them to put a picture up later.

Bob

Posted by Misty river on 03-01-2017 06:30 AM:

Smiling Bob

I got the opportunity to hunt with this young dog back in the fall when me and Steve took a trip up to Mr. Ed Mauneys in Illinois. I took my Smoke dog and Steve took Bob and Bam. We hunted Bam some up there and he is a nice young dog. We hunted Mr. Ed's Bobbie while there and she is the type that every body wants. We hunted Smoke and Bob while there, and they did a nice job on several coons. I had been thinking about it ever since our trip that at some point I would like to breed something to the Bob dog and get a litter of pups out of him. I didn't know wheather Steve and Mr. Ed would be interested in breeding Bob or not as he is a young dog, so when my ole Sheba female came in season a week or so ago I called Steve and asked him if they would be interested in breeding him to Sheba, They were interested and told me to come over and pick him up and get her bred and if I would to hunt him a few nights, so I went and picked him up a couple of days ago and we went hunting tonight and I will have to say I liked him even better than I thought I would. I turned him off an ole woods road into an Oak flat with a slough in the middle. He went in about 300 yrds and struck a pretty good track and moved it out. We went down the road aways to get closer. He took it out of the swamp across another woods road into some twenty year old planted pines that had been burnt over about two weeks ago. I thought this might give him some problems, but it didn't seem to bother him. He made a pretty big circle through the pines and brought him back and crossed the woods road that we were on, and back into the swamp and made a circle up through the swamp and locked up treed. I walked in to him and he was treed up a large oak and there were vines everywhere that went into several trees with hedges around. I never did get him to look, but I'm sure he was there. We made one more drop and he made a wide swing through the swamp and was crossing over into another woods and I called him in and we called it a nite.

Thanks Scott and Steve for the kind words, and you are right Steve good guys with nice hounds.

BOB X SHEBA

Mr. Jack I hope you and Bob still getting along and that he gets Sheba bred for you. Those 2 hounds have not only a truck load of Great, Reproducing Hounds behind them with more to come but also a Truck Load of Great Breeders like Yourself and Mr. Ed that got these Blue Dogs to where they are today. This litter of pups will make Coon Hounds for sure if given the chance and should have Ability, Mouth and Looks second to none. Mason has already told his Mom we have Pups a coming so I have my fingers crossed Sheba and Ann have some good healthy pups for us. Talk to you soon.

Louisa

You are welcome to come on here anytime. I'm sorry you had trouble with my mail box. I went back and erased everything on there, it still says I have 63 messages on there, but I don't know where they are at. In answer to you question, I don't have a pup trainer. I sold all of my older dogs a while back, and I don't know where one is at. I never use another dog to train my young dogs with. I never hunt them with another dog until they are treeing coons on their own. Wish you the best with your young dogs.

Bob

Made a short hunt tonight with bob, turned him off an ole woods road into an oak flat. He went in a little over 200 yrds and struck a cold track, worked it on in another 100 yrds and locked up treed. He sure does sound good on the wood. I got my rifle and walked in to him and he was treed in a good sized hardwood that was close to a pine, and I figured he had done crossed over into the pine, but when I hit the squaller he looked at me from the hardwood, so I let Bob have this one. Steve and Mr. Ed have them another good one.

Congratulations to Layne and Smoke

Layne is a good friend of Jeremy and me. He has been hunting Smoke for me for the last 2 or 3 weeks. He loaded Smoke up last night and traveled to Ovett, Ms. and hunted him in their UKC Nite Hunt and won his cast and the Nite Ch. part of the hunt. This win gives Smoke 3 wins toward Grand. Layne also has a young Blue male dog out of Tramp 11 and Dry Creek Ruby that he calls "Cap" that is really coming on. You will be hearing more about him later. Layne is a good hunter and we sure appreciate him.

CONGRATS

Congrats to Layne and Smoke on their Win. Looking forward to hearing about Cap as he progresses. When I saw a picture Justin sent me when Cap was a pup I knew he would be something special. He just had that look about him.
