I'm not a member of the blue bone association, and I don't like the breed. But yadkintar has done alot to improve the blue bones.

It is funny, the stuff guys come up with to tease other breed owners...I remember back when I hunted redbones, everyone used to say we would go broke buying pliers...we had to give a free pair of pliers to everyone that bought a puppy. That was to yank all the puppies teeth out so the other breeds could stay treed with them!!!

Never knew anyone with a red bone. I hear they're loyal like a lab

The redbones I had were from a line of dogs that were just not what I would call "people dogs." They could care less about me or anything I did. They would listen and trained up pretty good, but they were not interested in being petted or getting a treat, all they wanted to do was go hunting and when I first got them started they didn't much care what it was they ran. In fact, it is fair to say they would run anything that didn't smell like dirt until I got them semi under control. There was a point in time when I was scared to hunt them near train tracks...I was worried if a train came by they would run that!!!!
Tree as many coons as a lab???? I had one that gave many a serious case of hurt feelings to at least three big name walker men back in the day.
That said, I would give anything to have her back, but I am very happy with the three dogs I have now because they are all three people dogs...they live to have me walk down to the kennel and pet them. The walker, I never seen a dog as happy to see me in my life...he will seriously turn his nose to a steak to get petted. The real benefit, it didn't take much at all to get him broke, and as much as I carry on about walkers slick treeing...on my mothers grave, he'll be 2 in a month and a half and has yet to show me an empty tree.

I was thinking of starting thread on which breed is most loyal. I've really only hunted walkers and English of the two the walkers have been much more loyal.

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there!!!!! I didn't realize I was dating myself, but then again, I never did give a GD!!!! Ha ha

All kidding aside, I don't know about extinct, but a few years back when I seriously got back into coonhunting I tried to go red again...I figured I had pretty good luck before and so why not??? I found out pretty quick, if you aint a member of their "good ole boys" club or allegiance or cartel or any other name you wanna hang on it you aint welcome. That didn't set too well with me, so I scared up a Mr. Clean bred walker and a couple blue dogs and been happy ever since.

I agree, I would sure like to be the first to show him a bluetick that could tree a coon!!!!! We might talk about our dogs after we hunt. He has a good point too, most walkers do not hunt or act like a lot of people say. I have seen some that do of all breeds and honestly the guys that keep, hunt and feed them amaze me more than the dogs.

I'm sure we would have a great hunt and I would truly like watching your Blue dogs tree some coons. As I said I have little experience with Blue dogs. Probably haven't hunted with more than 8 or so in my life. Half or more of them were young dogs. I have a friend that years ago had a Blue female he said was a real coon dog. He won à bunch with her. "Hunted just like a Walker" his words not mine. I just never had the pleasure of hunting with her.

I have hunted with some dang good Black and Tans and some fine English dogs. Only hunted with a couple Red dogs and did not see them tree a coon. Have hunted with a bunch of Walkers and almost all of them treed coons with the exception of a few young dogs. Im sure there are some real good ones in all the breeds. I'm just limited to the ones I have actually seen cast in the woods.

Many on here bash the Walker breed. I'm just trying to figure out why. Because in all honesty the best coon dogs I have ever seen have all been Walkers. Maybe I'm missing something.
