Zero X Alice! Kinda has a ring to it!!
( Casey's quote!!! )Thanks Guys. I live in walker country, 95 % of the time I draw out w/ 3 walkers. I know I'm not going to breed 10 blue females a week. I am not out to make money on these dogs. I want the blue dog to be the one holding the win slip at the end of the night. I am out to win the world hunt. That starts with hunting a dog that can tree coons on a consistent basis. In an environment that is rough on a hound- traveling several hundred miles, hunting with strange dogs- night in and night out, hunting with the rough dogs.... I have never been satisfied with simply treeing a coon.
This board is full of mediocre blue dogs. That is not going to cut it. It's time to take it to the next level. I don't want to breed to ol' so n so sally, that treed a coon one time and further flood the market w/ mediocre pups. I have multiple gyps that are breed out of this world... I will not breed to them until they prove themselves.
It' nice to have the local guys bet on your blue dog in the Calcutta.... to have your dog known as the one that's going to be coming back in at the end of the night, to be called "the meat dog".
I have been coonhunting for 21 years. I have had every type of hound imaginable. I haven't raised a litter in over 12 years. I am going to cross Zero on the GRNT direct daughter of hillbilly that Jerry Shewmaker raised and trained... because I believe the cross will produce pups that will make the blue dog show up in the winners circle...
That is my 2 cents, which is probably worth about .01
If you have a bitch that can tree em night in and night out... Let's make some future winners!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's what it gonna take. 1/2 of the genes/ talent comes from the momma.
I don't care if Zero and Poncho only breed a few females... but I want them to be top notch females and I want the pups to go to hard hunters!!!!!
Well said Casey! Thanks for the help in making this happen,Danny G.
Congrats on getting Poncho to the finals!!

Congratulations on making the top 100 with Poncho!!!
It was kinda interesting seeing that not a single Walker advanced in that zone. 4 English, 3 Blueticks, and a Black and Tan.

Congrats Casey on the win with Poncho, hope you win it all!
Danny, I figured out where you were looking when you said you were going to AI Alice and Casey had told me he had to drop Zero off Monday. You made a great choice IMO and good to see someone with a top reproducing gyp giving a top young stud a chance to show their reproducing ability together.

Thanks everyone. Congrats to all those that advanced and a hats off to those that didn't. It takes a lot of time and energy to get those dogs that far and sometimes the chips just don't fall just right, but at least we gave the dog the opportunity. Friday night I handled zero and a buddy ( Justin Stokes) handled poncho... we both came up short. I got beat fair and square by a little red female, cali, three time top 20 world finalist...nice dog and honest handler. Friday night for Justin and not long ago kenny, both said poncho just didn't perform for them. I have won the last 4 casts I entered poncho in.. not sure why, but for some reason he clicks really well for me. So, me and Justin Stokes swapped dogs for Saturday,I handled poncho and he handle d zero. Poncho did a nice job, no reverse gear, for me... hopefully poncho will continue to perform for me.like he has been. Poncho scored 1267+ in a cast with Johnny Yoder, so he is capable of what it will take. I plan on having a good time and hope poncho gets the breaks it takes to win. If not, there's always next year!
Mr. Glista, Mr. Bankstown said it best, thanks for giving zero the shot at breeding to your top notch reproducing female.
Steve, it was nice meeting you in person, maybe these pups will be the kind we all search for.

Zero
Casey, I hope all goes well at the vet clinic in the morning with gettin Zero drawn off. I have everything here set to go. Hopefully the timing is right from what Dan Rainville has told me as to when she started in. If we get a litter of pups on the ground, the hard part is getting them into the right hands so they can excel in the timber. I hunted a prime example of one that didn't get the chance tonite out of Gauge and Alice cross. Guy just didn't like her and never really gave her a chance.I've had her here for 2 weeks, messed with her a bit and gave her a treat one nite. Tonite I hunted her with a friend of mine, Bill, goes by starbluetick on the board. We cut her and his male together. Long story made short, they were in around 800 yds or so,runnin a track in a cutout, Bill's dog came treed and she got split treed off left handed from him around 125 yds or so. Both had coons and I'm here to tell ya that little blue female lit the woods up. Three big locates, then into a hard steady chop of 120 plus a minute. Loudest female I've ever heard tree and stylish to boot. Now I just have to find some more time for her. Maybe Alice II Again!! I've kinda got more than one can handle at this time but I'll manage some how! I've got a great feeling about the Zero x Alice cross. Time will tell!! Thanks,Danny G.

BOGUE CHITTO PEBBLES
Casey it was great meeting you I only wish we would have had more time to visit and talk hounds but you had been in the road a LONG time and needed rest and I had to turn around for the long trip back. We left headed your way just before noon yesterday and pulled back in at the house at 3am this morning. I love the way Bogue Chitto Pebbles looks and sounds. Going to have a huge mouth on her because when I locked her in her pen she let me hear it, lol! All pups that I have had here have been given a chance but I'm a hard person to please and have moved a few on down the road. Not culls as they were all well bred pups but some little something didn't suite me, like a high pitched mouth or not tree minded enough. Had folks tell me give them more time, their voice will change as they get older or they will come around. I don't have time, I know what I WANT and if I don't see it they move on. Right now Pebbles has two of the 3 things I HAVE to HAVE, MOUTH with lots of VOLUME and Looks. Ability being the 3rd thing and months from now she will be given the best shot of any pup out there to show if she has it or not. Until then, Mason and I will have a lot of fun with her. Thanks again for picking her up for me.

Casey good luck with Poncho. It's always good to see a nice blue dog in the fina running. Hope all goes well with the Zero/Alice II cross. Should be some good uns. May have to get my order in on one of the females.
Pretty sure Mr Glista is AI-ing Alice (#2 current reproducing female), not Alice II. I'm humbled that he has put faith in zero... but it's not just zero, its his dad, and granddad, his greatgrandma.....his mom and his Mom's mom etc....and all the folks that helped make up both sides of zeros pedigree... crossing on Alice's proven ability and decades worth of excellent breeding on her side.
Zero went to vets office today.... semen collection went well, so maybe everything else will and the timing will be right.
I'm looking forward to getting beat by a zero x Alice pup in the future....

The semen looked great when I recieved it. Been keeping track of Alice and she was showing what I wanted to see and that is the color of the vaginal discharge just started to change to a coffee stain look in color which tells me the timing is definately right on schedule and she's gonna have some Zero pups hit the ground. Been keeping track of a small sample I drew up in the eye dropper and leaving at room temp to see how long it lives. After 9 hrs still great mobilty going on! Best thing is I still have the second draw off for Wends. afternoon. Real positive about getting some pups on the ground and if it happens,I'll be paying them up in performance program and pay to have litter SS in PKC. I'll let you know how it goes on Wends. when I take the second collection out of the container and check mobility of the sperm and re AI her. Should still be good to go from what I'm seeing! If one goes back and looks at Zero's ped and studies it some, one can soon see what he has to offer to the breed. This cross will have a great chance at makin some good ones if we can get them on the ground!! Thanks for everything,Danny G.
Here's the tools that help make it happen, all I had to do was getting it done!!

Danny I would like to try this can I baro your BOAT? lol I just used chilled Semon on a female but fedx was a day late getting here! don't know if she took or not?
Mark
Don't know about barrowing the boat but as far as the AI stuff, any time you need it. Hopin to get some Sadie blood here soon. Were you able to check the semen before doing the AI? Later,Danny G.

Just got in from hunting. The semen sample kept at room temp still has 50 to 60 percent mobility which is good. Lookin like some pups will hit the ground soon! Later,Danny G.

Hey Mark.... How about you borrow Mr. Glista's John deere mower (instead of the boat) and bring it on down the road to my house... I'll even teach you how to use it.... HAHAHAHA
Sfranklin- All the pups out of the previous litters were sold pretty quick, so none left, I plan on breeding my GRNT Hillbilly female, if she will ever come in heat and Mr. Glista has this cross w/ alice brewing..
Thanks for all the encouragement guys. It rained like heck last night, but finally stopped. I wanted to get Poncho some exercise, but was trying to not get him snakebit, so I took him to a place w/ NO water for miles and VERY thin coon. Cut him by himself, didn't take any other dogs w/ me.
1st drop he struck at .75 mile (exactly, by my garmin), it was a bad track made before the rain, he gave it a shot but couldn't get a coon on the end of it.
2nd drop- Struck at 800 yards, after he had hunted through 4 small blocks of woods and several field edges. Track was wet and soggy similar to track # 1, but he managed to put a coon at the end of this one.
I have hunted this spot for 15 years and it's the most difficult place I've ever hunted to tree a coon. The owner likes quail and turkey hunting, so traps and shoots every coon he seens/catches. Its the place I take my dogs when I'm wanting to get their mind on really hunting out to find one and to make them hunt out to get exercise.... Luckily some coon were around last night prior to the rain, because the peanuts had been turned up. After treeing one there, most places are a walk in the park. We will see.
